I’m thinking more likely than a trade is that DJax is released.. and the Rams end up grabbing another vet that gets released.
Fuller? Ingram? We’ll see.

Well then why are The Rams waiting & giving him time to find a team ?
What kind of Cap room does he give The Rams ?? The Rams gave a pick to a NFL team just to make a trade for cap space.
?? Do you recall ?? My memory is not that good.
BTW The Rams don’t need a OLB/DE. They are full of them.Is Hollins out for the post season???

I am assuming the chance of Akers' return means they try to make do with what they have. They can scrounge some RBs off the street if there is further injury. Not ideal and yes risky but if they think Akers is coming back that may be the best way to play it. Risk on both sides, which is what makes it so intriguing.

Also whoever it ends up being I'm thinking it's someone the Rams feel hasn't been maximized by staff or team around them. Guys Snead loved coming out like we saw with Corbs. So part of this is who's there they like and feel is underappreciated and from there which of those guys have a team willing to deal them at affordable price.

Jack makes sense assuming the above, that they can get him on the cheap. A Jack and Jones ILB group would be a complete overhaul. But a safety who has a good feel for playing the ball and deep middle is still what I feel like is ideal. Question is if that guy's out there and available at their price.

Because if they *can* get something back, they'll take it. The deadline is close, so it won't hurt to wait a couple more days.
I'm not 100% clear on how much he gives them, but it would be enough for a vet minimum for the balance of the year.
Hollins is supposed to come back, but, we'll see. I'm always happy to add a pass rusher.

If there was an RB available who could return kicks at least as well as Funk, I'd consider adding him.

Jack has a big contract, so I don't think there's any way he ends up a Ram.

Myles Jack has a huge cap liability and he's a first round complete bust. Why do you think they are trying to move him?

Von Miller is over the hill and clearly in decline with an equally huge cap liability.

Snead does more with his 6th round picks than most GMs do with their 4th and 5th round picks. I still say the Chargers have the cap money and the need for an immediate slot starter. That is the team that makes the most sense, and they are a playoff contender as well. His HC would be one of the rising stars with a QB who is already among the best. The only real issue would be D. Jax age, but he would be looked at as a bridge player, allowing them to draft his replacement and be eased into the lineup in 2022.

The correct answer has gotta be ILB, don’t you think? I know that they really like Jones but even if he plays spectacularly we’re still too thin at that position. All due respect for Reeder, but we need to do better. Don’t believe me, then please rewatch that Lions game. The Lions made Reeder look foolish. What will the Titans make him look like?

I would love the addition of a decent blocking TE and/or an upgrade at Safety, but ILB has to be our biggest need now that Young has been traded away.

One kinda easy, natural fit? Marlon Mack for DJax.
You only do this if you're a little concerned about Sony & Hendo's durability. But.. the Colts need a deep stretch to go along with TY because he's been in and out of the lineup and his speed makes a huge difference in that O.

ILB? I don't think so. Reeder had an awful game, but both he and Young were kinda part time players. They're hoping Jones can be their "3 down" ILB, for sure.
I'm big on needing a reliable #2 TE.

I voted CB because FS wasn't a listed option.

I think @Zodi was right about how big a loss JJ was.

And the scheme, and playing guys out of position, isn't covering up the lack of speed at that position.

Yes a returner would be great. Re: Jack I wouldn't rule it out simply because there's room for the teams to agree upon pay split and the Rams are very creative. I'd be more concerned with his film at this point and why he looks so bad. I don't like guys who quit, even when it's a bad situation. But if the Rams do their diligence on the guy I'm fine with rolling the dice.

Here's his contract below, he does have a nice drop in that dead cap next year.

Jints Evan Engram can be had. Think a change of scenery is what he needs. Very talented TE.

Agree & when first report & viewed the trade I thought it was a 6th & 7th to The Rams. Shows it was more of a Cap concern & E. Jones is ready to be called on.

I also think T. Howard is a team leader as well & deserves his chance as a long time Ram.He is a veteran that is underrated in these neck of the Hollywood’s.
I also don't know if he's in the last year of his contract which would make him less valuable.

I rarely try to keep up with the contracts of these guys.

I still feel like the Rams may be looking to be reactive in terms of the top competition within the division and the NFC.

Defensively it's K.Murray at the top of that list. Then you have Brady and his receivers. Rodgers and their run game and finally Dallas' receivers and run game.

Offensively it's being able to control the LOS, run the ball and close vs Tampa and Dallas.

Astute observations and a logical conclusion my friend. Well put

I don't know what they are going to do they need a couple of even average to above average players to complete thus roster. Yea ILB is a maybe same at safety but to me the most glaring is CB. We just don't have the ability to match up with the other 3-4 deep receiver playoff bound teams. Even with a healthy DWill.

Would anyone truly feel comfortable with Long or Rochelle or DD on Antonio Brown or Godwin?

Maybe Marcus Maye because he can do it all.

I'd be happier with two "B" level players to fill needs than one "A" level player for one need.

I have thought about this for a while now but it's got to be a veteran TE that is by far the biggest need.

The issue is can a new TE learn this system enough to make any difference. Obviously, there are serious issues ongoing with that with 2nd season TE Brycen Hopkins & rookie Jacob Harris. Rams just signed TE Kendall Blanton. He is no longer on the PS.

The concern @ ILB'er is just not there for me. DC Morris has elected to primarily run just with one ILB'er he has 3 on the MR53. You could say Troy Reeder has been the starter since he was a rookie now in his 3rd season. He is the best run-stuffer we have when he is on.

Travin Howard is a clone of Kenny Young might be faster & much better range. Not sure why he did not win the position over Young this TC but Howard was just not himself after that injury in 2020. Never the less he could take right off where Young left off & you would not know any difference at this point. I really think many here just do not know how good Howard could be once he got established in this new defense.

Rookie Ernest Jones.......I'll try & be nice here.....I see nothing that makes me think he can deliver game day. Always late to the party or blocked out away from the party or being run over by the ball carrier for me to take a liking to. Not impressed for any reason.

Justin Hollins will be back in a few weeks & he has played both the ILB'er positions along with playing both sides @ OLB'er. So DC Morris would have another LB'er looking for work then.

Strong Safety Taylor Rapp must now really figure into an ILB'ing role. Sure is no effective safety in coverage. The problem is the Rams just lost his backup safety JR Reed to another team. SS Jordan Fuller is dealing with injury issues again just like last season.

I would get deep safety Ju Ju Hughes warmed up for a big role from this point on in that coverage secondary!

Didn't he just get poached off the practice squad too?

Rams sign TE Kendall Blanton to 53-man roster, promote two from practice squad

The Rams have yet to find a player to replace Johnny Mundt, who’s out for the year with a torn ACL. However, Kendall Blanton appears to be the next man up after being promoted from the practice squad last week and playing two snaps in the win over Detroit.

He’ll have a more permanent role moving forward, too. The Rams announced Saturday that they’ve signed him to the 53-man roster, which isn’t a temporary promotion like last week’s. They also elevated Antoine Brooks Jr. and Tyler Hall from the practice squad for Week 8 against the Texans.

Teams are permitted to promote up to two players each week from the practice squad.

Blanton appears to have lept Jacob Harris and Brycen Hopkins on the depth chart as the No. 2 tight end. Harris didn’t play any offensive snaps last week and Hopkins has been inactive for each game this season.

With Mundt out, the Rams didn’t use nearly as much two-tight end sets against the Lions, reverting to their old ways as primarily a three-receiver team in 11 personnel.
