Why do we want another WR again?

We have 2 1s, we are running this 13 personnel down peoples throats, and we still have a capable rest of the WR room with quality guys.

I’m always interested in getting better - especially when the window is open like it is right now - but I’m not seeing the tight end or WR angle.

Maybe another dangerous situational piece on the defense ….
In my opinion, provided Nacua and Adams remain healthy, the Rams do NOT need another WR.

Those guys are terrific; and the combination of Whittington, Atwell, Smith and Mumpfield ... plus the four TEs is enough. My concern ... which I have expressed numerous times, going-back to pre-Training-Camp is that Nacua plays WR like a Fullback (yesterday being another example) and Adams will turn 33 in a month.

I hope and pray they both play all the Rams' remaining games but I think it would be a gamble. That's why I think Humphries is on the roster ... just in case Jackson (blood clots / other injury) goes down at LT.

While I think the four reserve WRs are good reserves, should Nacua OR Adams be lost for a month or more, that would greatly (and negatively) impact the Rams' offense ... and the Team.

I agree with you about TE ... they have four ... all healthy ... all have roles ... all four have caught passes in each of the prior two games. Plus, two of them are two of the highest paid players on the 2025-cap; and another was the Rams' top-pick just six months ago.

Don't agree on 'another dangerous situational piece on the defense' because I don't see a significant up-grade at Cornerback without giving-up a high-pick, and compromising future cap space that will be needed.

As for another Edge ... barring an injury to Verse or Young ... how would a quality Edge get enough snaps without one or both of Verse and Young losing snaps? And I like Josiah Stewart.

Now if either Verse or Young were injured, another Edge would be vary valuable but I think it's different than the Nacua/Adams argument above because ... while injuries can happen anywhere ... I see injuries to one of the two-top-WRs being a greater threat because of Nacua's playing-style and Adams' age.

Please keep in mid that these are just my opinions, and I am kind of an idiot.

I'd be kinda upset if the Rams trades for a WR or TE at this point. We're loaded at both positions and we have other needs if we want to win this year. Not saying we can't do it with our current group. However, I'd feel a lot better trading for a top talent DB than a mid range TE or WR.

Well, Atwell and Higbee are free agents at the end of the year, Adams has one more year after this one, and Nacua needs to be re-signed after this year as well. I like Whittington and Mumpfield, too, but we need a real deep threat; X has his strengths with his speed, but he's not the deep threat Atwell or someone like Waddle or Doubs could be.

I totally agree on your thoughts for the future, but I don't want to spend draft capital for two reasons.

1. Teams have gotten smart on trading away decent players for peanuts (sans Titans), getting a good starting caliber player at this point in the season is going to be overpriced.
2. Trading away draft capital usually means getting a player that's on his last year of of his contract. I don't think the Rams are willing to give up a 1st or 2nd for player that might not sign long term to a team friendly deal.

Waddle is signed until 2028. Doubs will be an unrestricted agent in 2026, so he'll be eligible for a contract extension (which would play into compensatory pick categories if we don't re-sign him, much like McCreary).

Wouldn't be a downside, and we're in this to win a Super Bowl. Stafford's having his best year thus far; we need to surround him with a perfect supporting cast to help his case for MVP and our case for the Super Bowl.

Right, but it leads me back to my #1 reason on why I don't think the Rams make that move.

I don't think the Rams spend a 1st or 2nd round pick on a guy like Waddle who's always injured, Now if they wanted a 4th rounder, great get er done. But I doubt they take a 4th for him.

I'd do a second for Waddle; you're not going to get someone with his skillset in the late-second round. Speed kills, he's a legit deep threat who is even faster than Tutu is, you can use him in many creative ways, and he immediately solves the #2 problem when Adams eventually leaves, possibly after next season.

Historically teams pay a premium for a midseason trade for players that could be had for far less in the offseason.

If we're looking to make a move for the future I see no immediate reason to trade away draft capital.

Because Puka struggles to stay healthy.

But wouldn't getting a CB also hinge on what teams want in return? I'd be more upset if we give up too much and feel like the value isn't there regardless of position.

I think the Rams have a really, really solid roster.
You can always use another pass rusher.. but it’s not a true need.
I think what they lack in true corner talent is made up for, at least somewhat, by the continuity on the back end, overall.
They are deeper than they have been in years.. I think it’s going to be about execution, including the kicking game.

I'd see if the Packers are willing to trade a WR. Even with the Jayden Reed injury, they have a lot of players at the position. Dontayvion Wicks could be a good hedge for a Puka injury. Don't know what sort of compensation they'd want for him. I'll also throw out Adonai Mitchell. Colts have basically benched him since he dropped the ball short of the end zone against us. He's a young player who has made a lot of mistakes, but he's also very talented. If they're giving up on him and willing to trade him cheap, I'd see what he could do with Davante and Puka's guidance.
Green Bay is unlikely to trade with us as we are a rival NFC contender.

But Mitchell would be ideal. AFC team. Strong talent who separates from DBs. He is out of favor so we would be buying low. No high pick required. He understands the Eagles tree of WCO gobbledeegook.

But he is healty(ish) now

It seems like most trade deadline deals are guys on expiring contracts - rentals. Does it really make sense to invest not just draft capital but also time and practice reps getting someone new in sync with the offense just in case he gets hurt again? I mean - if there is a deal for a guy we view as a permanent piece out there - I get it. I’m just not sure that guy is out there.

I tend to think defensive players acclimate easier mid season and they rotate in and out more. Could be a pass rusher, could be part of a coverage package, could be a run stuffer. I don’t think they need any of it - but they just look so good it’s gotta be hard not to shop and try to buy some trimmings.

Miami takes a huge dead cap hit if they trade Waddle, some 40+ mill. They arent moving him without receiving ample compensation

Some folks are having trouble realizing this. Or just in denial. His career clock is already ticking and it sucks. The dude takes a beating every week and it’s year three.
I would not be shocked given everything we know about him collegic-ally and now if the health he displayed his rookie season is the outlier.

I can't believe Mcvay is using him on jet sweeps. He already takes too much of a beating to be used as a running back IMO.
