Can Hockenson block? I don't watch him enough to know. That is a high price to pay if he is just a receiving TE, as he is not in the upper-most TE tier with guys like Kelce and Andrews that have separated themselves. He is a weapon to be sure though.

I honestly hate this info being released. It's going to make teams that much more likely to try to gouge us in a trade.
Assuming its true (not a given)... wow, for both teams. The Rams' willingness to overpay, and the Panthers' decision to say no... both surprising.

For the record, I'd love to have Burns on this team for the next few years, but... two firsts?
I wonder if it is a Rams leak to keep AD happy that they tried, tried, tried.

Not a strength for him at all

I don't believe the Rams are one player away with that said if you are going to trade a 1st round pick in year ??? then it needs to be a foundational player for the next 3-4 years. Brian Burns would be okay but I'd rather get Laremy Tunsil instead. Kick Jackson to LG and run that side.

Frankly, I see the Hockenson trade as a win for both sides. Vikings get a playmaker in an already explosive offense and they already have Mundt who can be the blocking TE and they'll get Irv Smith back after a few weeks. They are set up nicely for a deep playoff run if they stay healthy.

Lions season is all but over and they need a lot of help on defense. Hockenson is nice for them but he's only got one more year on his deal and isn't a player who's out of this world good. They've got a lot of firepower to get whatever QB they want now if they like one and still be able to draft heavy on defense.

One thing is for sure, the price to acquire talent has definitely shot up this year.

This is likely at least in part a result of the Rams' all-in approach resulting in a Super Bowl win last season. You now have many teams trying to emulate that approach, putting all of their chips on the table, creating bidding wars.

In 2019, the Rams acquired Jalen Ramsey via trade. He was 24 years old at the time (but set to turn 25 in mere weeks), already was undisputedly among the top 3 players at his position, and plays an absolutely prime position in the NFL (CB). The price was two 1st rounders and a 4th rounde pick.

In 2022, we now apparently have the Rams offering two 1st round picks for Christian McCaffery.... a running back that is going on 27, already has a lengthy injury history, has tons of tread on his tires having been run into the ground by every offense he has played for since college, and comes with an unappealing contract. Yikes. Ramsey is a roster corner-stone piece. An elite franchise player at a prime position. You now apparently are looking at the same price to acquire a RB, or great but not elite talents like Burns and Chubb.

I thought the Rams made the same offer for CMC as the Niners - a 2nd and a collection of later picks. Supposedly they did offer two 1sts for Burns, who is more similar to Ramsey's situation.

You could be right. I have seen that report as well. There appear to be conflicting reports regarding what exactly was offered by the Rams. Some reports have stated two 1st round picks were offered.

I ninja edited my last post, but I think the two 1sts were for Burns. The Panthers wanted two 1sts for CMC, but I don't think anyone came close to that.
