Cooks is a very good WR. He is basically a proven Tutu, if Tutu played at significantly higher level. Cooks can take the top off a defense and also excels at getting open very quickly underneath after the snap , which will be valuable for a Rams team that is struggling at the o-line position. He also is valuable on end around and jet sweeps.

But a big problem with Cooks is his injury history and concussions in particular. Seemingly, that was a huge driver in the Rams moving on. But he seems to have put those issues behind him in Houston.

Another issue is what it would take to acquire Cooks via trade. I don't think he is worth giving up significant assets for. With Van Jefferson returning and ARob seemingly coming around, we have much more pressing needs than WR, and limited trade capital to acquire with them.

Given our o-line injuries, I also don;'t think this is the year to sell it all in hopes of loading up for playoff run. If we give up significant assets this year, any player coming back should be part of the plan for a least a few more seasons. I am not sure Cooks fits that description anymore. He will soon be on the wrong side of 30. I am not sure for how much longer you can bank on him to be a game breaker.

The contract is also an issue but not the biggest of concerns. I think it expires after next season? Both sides could walk away in short order.

It would depend on what the Rams give up to acquire him. I'd love him on the cheap. I can't see that happening. For a team that had bigger WR needs, he would make a lot more sense for what will likely be the price of acquisition.

Brandin Cooks is signed through the 2024 season. He carries a cap hit of 18 mil in 2023 (guaranteed salary) and (if I'm reading it right) a cap hit of 13.5 mil in 2024. There was talk he would welcome a trade to the Rams and even resturcture his contract to do so. You are dead on about taking the top off and getting open quickly underneath.

Maybe they want the Tutu experiment over? I'm the type of fan who believes as long as they're trying to upgrade the roster, it doesn't matter what positions they target. Just make it better.

There's just no way on Cooks, 18.5 mill guaranteed in 2023.
Of course that report comes out about Akers, last ditch effort to get a team with lukewarm interest to cough up a late draft pick
The good news is that all this waiting and wondering will be over soon....
There have been reports he is willing to greatly reduce that number to get out of Houston.

He's great but a lot of knee problems in his past a concussion issue and his recent legal issues too. There are serious red flags but he's great on the field. I'd love the talent just not sure I love the player if that makes sense. Also I'm of the opinion if we're going to use that many picks for a player I think there are better players to go after.
Houston eats majority of this years salary, we give them Atwell and a 6th in trade

Is that for Cooks? I was responding to a question about Kamara. As for Cooks still no he makes too much money the rest of the contract. His next two years are $18 and $13 million and those make no sense. I know people are saying he will take less money I just don't think it'll be low enough to make any sense.

You cannot move on from concussions, they're cumulative.

If he was one concussion away from being out of the league 3 years ago, then he still is and always will be.

You can move on from being injury *prone* and maybe he has, but this isn't like that.

I'd expect to see a healthy dose of Atwell today. They have to figure out exactly what they have there before they try and trade for another WR. IMO, Atwell is useful and if he and Stafford get on the same page, could be a huge deep threat weapon. Not sure why his usage is as little as it is. Doesn't his mere presence on the field pull the safety back in fear of the deep threat? Shouldn't that benefit all the rest on the offense? In short, keep Atwell DON'T trade for Cooks of all things.

I would avoid Kamara. He feels like a run down sports car at the front of the lot all dressed up with balloons.

From PFT:

The Texans have been trying to trade Cooks. As explained last night, his $18 million fully guaranteed salary has become an impediment. As one league source has suggested, Cooks could be willing to soften the guarantee for 2023 in order to escape the Texans and return to the Rams. Also, the Texans could eat some of the 2023 guaranteed salary in order to get the draft pick they’re looking for.

With Denver winning today does that change their outlook. I mean to me it shouldn't but who knows.

Others have suggested that teams aren't keen on trading with the Rams because of, I guess, jealousy in how M & S have made it work to date.

But I wonder if there's another reason - presuming it's even the case - and it's that the Rams are guilty of leaking out more misinformation than other teams.

Just an idle thought.
I think the idea of hurting your own team because another team was successful isn’t a good management principle.

I hope this wasn't us. A first rounder for someone on last year of contract and constantly injured?

I didn’t think the Rams even had a 1st Round Pick to trade for the next 20 years or so?!

He also wants $20M/yr on his extension. Too much money for a risky guy. This Rams team can’t afford to take risks anymore. We need to pick and choose wisely how we spend the limited assets and cap space.
