I don’t know man. $3M is kind of a minimal savings; and Floyd has played well the past two seasons. I’d be inclined to gamble the $3M that he has a bounce-back season.

Also hoping he plays better over the next eleven weeks; and, just maybe, he’s been playing hurt.
It also frees up what would be his $18 million cap hit in ‘24. This team has proven they’re not afraid of dead money. And it may be they’re going to keep him around next year. But if the only reason we jeep somebody is cutting him only saves us $3 million that’s a terrible reason to give him a roster spot. Honestly there isn’t anybody right now at olb who’s earning their checks.

He'll be 31 next year, if he's lost a step it's not likely to return any time soon. The savings may not be much, but he takes up a valuable roster spot and is currently being paid an exorbitant amount of money for very little return. If he's injured, that changes things somewhat, although I'm yet to see any kind of report suggesting this is his case. jmo.

As with anyone else… who’s the upgrade?
Floyd overpaid is still better than Lewis, for example.
Floyd is also playing hurt.

But… I agree with the whole argument you’re making about dead money. The Rams ain’t afraid of it.

I think of it more as keeping Floyd in 2023 would only Cost the Rams $3M more than if they release him and take a $19M Dead-$-hit.

Regardless, we agree that better Edge-production is needed.

That $3.mil might get us a second young Edge off of the free agent market next year. jmo.

Unless some of them start actually producing I’m all for a full olb rework. Cause what we have right now isn’t acceptable. I think we should trot out @Loyal and @Merlin tbh they’d show the guys how to play.

I hear you.
I just don’t see a path to an upgrade on both sides next year.

Or a couple veteran backup IOL. There are many uses for it.

I brought up a second Edge only because Hollins will become a free agent after this season, so a permanent Floyd replacement and another to compete with Lewis & Hardy for the next man up role on the other side. jmo.

Certainly not a good sign for DC Morris or OLB'er coach Thad Bogardus. Maybe DC might go to a 43 D? But players must be held responsible too for their lack of impact on the field.

Ref. Floyd .....when I see him on the field next to Lewis or Hollins he has a physical appearance close to a WR Randy Moss, not a LB'er. Very thin slight frame.

Floyd was given very big $$$$ contract. Leonard Floyd will have a massive cap hit of #22 mil in 2023 & $22.5 mil in 2024.

Dude I wasn't Morris's biggest supporter but I can honestly say I was wrong.

He has done a wonderful job with this defense we all have been watching football for years without a pass rush defenses typically arent in the top three. Saying no pass rush is a complete understatement. Saying he needs to do a better job is utterly ridiculous. I'm sorry that's a bad take. You can't lemonade by squeezing bananas. Since football has existed teams without a pass rush have never done anything. The only thing one could say is Morris and the Rams have been lucky with some of the passing attacks they have faced but other than that he has been everything you could ask for and he isn't even playing the way he wants to because of the personnel. He is adjusting to what we have so I can't agree with anyo of that it's very unfair.

If we go more of a "bargain" hunting route, I'd go after Jerry Hughes. Its possible that the asking price for a Chubb can get outta hand if another team comes in with a crazy offer that ups the ante. Exciting and anxious time for us Rams fans for sure. Tevin Coleman wouldn't be a bad add either for depth.
Let’s offer 4 picks for Chubb just to see SF offer 5.

Rams are in pass-rush market, ‘were in heavy on Brian Burns’

Skyler Carlin/ Wed, October 26, 2022 at 12:50 PM

It’s no secret that the Los Angeles Rams have lacked a consistent pass rush this season, which has led many to believe they’ll make a move for an edge rusher soon. With the trade deadline right around the corner, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that the Rams are aggressively looking to acquire a pass rusher and Brian Burns has been on their radar.

he Carolina Panthers are undergoing changes upon firing Matt Rhule a couple of weeks ago, including trading Christian McCaffrey and Robbie Anderson. The Rams attempted to acquire McCaffrey before the San Francisco 49ers swooped in and submitted a better offer to land the All-Pro running back.

Teams have shown interest in guys like Burns and D.J. Moore, with multiple reports suggesting that the Panthers turned down two first-round picks for Burns. The reports could be the Panthers trying to see if any team will increase their offer for the talented edge rusher or they are sending a message to other teams that he’s not available, while it could also be them showing Burns how much they value him moving forward.

Besides Burns, the Rams have been mentioned in trade rumors involving guys like Bradley Chubb and Robert Quinn. We’ve seen Les Snead pull the trigger for an elite edge rusher just last season when the Rams sent a second and third-round pick for Von Miller.

Entering Week 8, Los Angeles has tallied only 12 sacks (tied for seventh-fewest in the NFL), and only two of those have been by edge defenders. With the Rams desperately needing a spark in the pass-rushing department, it should be expected of them to make a move for Burns or someone else between now and the trade deadline.

I beat you by a minute.

Why not hit up the Colts for Stephon Gilmore? We'd have a reason to play more bump and run coverage! They are tanking now lol...... remember I can't blue font this shit for some reason
