LMFAO - trade Stafford he hasn’t even won a game in 2923 on September 6,2023. That’s going to happen- LOL

It will be incredible if Stafford is still playing in 2923.

Can you imagine his cap hit for that season? It will be like $17 quadrillion or something.

I got to make a call to Vegas....
Hello, Vegas.... no need for the Rams to play this weekend... they gonna lose.

I wonder how many other games don't need to be played, this weekend? Hard to say, huh...
Yeah - cuz - that is why they play the damn game! :wow2:

Did you see me make a prediction for this weekends game anywhere?

I said *if* this team starts 1-5, than pretty much everything’s on the table.

It may be but how do you know? We didn’t play out starters and word from Denver was we gave it to them on both O and D

We may be in a bad spot on D or we may not, but we can’t know based on the preseason
8 of our 11 defensive starters are either rookies, drafted 6th round or later, or weren’t drafted at all. Maybe we get lucky and 3 or 4 of those guys pop, and we have something cooking. But if those guys turn out like most 6th round picks and undrafted players, this defense is going to give up points like it’s getting paid to.

Just going with the general tenor of the thread... nothing too pointed, mate! :)

With the brutal first half schedule, and Kupp possibly missing 4 games, and having the youngest team in the league…it’s not hard to see this team starting 1-5 or 2-6, and ultimately deciding to completely blow it up and start fresh. Stafford getting dealt before the 10/31 deadline feels like a very real possibility. Ben Solak mentioned this on his pod today and now that the Kupp news is official it doesn’t seem far fetched at all.

Only way this doesn’t happen is if some of the rookies pop and we start the season 4-2, 3-3, or something. But if we are 1-5, I cannot see them sending Stafford and Kupp out there every week on their way to a 5-12 finish. Especially if Stafford looks as good as all the training camp reports have suggested. If he is healthy, teams will want him and the Rams would be stupid not to get something for him.
Dont jump! I would be very surprised if the Rams blow it up and kill all the cap space they have created for next season.

0-0 at the moment and football’s back. Not gonna write off the season before game 1…

We used to wait till week 8 before we did this in the Spags/Linehan days

We have Hoecht (a try hard who made a few plays with no one having film on him at the end of season), and some young DEVELOPMENT guys.

If it works out like it did for them with OL the last few years.. it'll be piss poor.

You get more cap flexibility and more draft picks.

If this team is 1-5, and Tua just got his 2nd concussion of the season, and the Dolphins are willing to send 2 second round and a third round pick for Stafford…it would be hard for Snead to say no.
It will be a lot easier than you think if you knew anything about the Salary Cap. Trading Stafford would create a 55 million dollar dead money cap hit for the Rams in 2024. Yikes

Wouldn't surprise me to see any of the "big three" traded for promising young players or top draft picks regardless of our record.

McVay proved he knows what he needs to win in the NFL during his first year here.

A pass for last year, sure. A pass for this year, ok.

Come year three he better start winning again or he and Snead might find themselves sent packing at the end of that season, just like underperforming players that finally get traded or cut.

So his 2023 base salary is only 1.5 mill, and they’d still take an 18.5 mill cap hit, THEN take a 55 mill cap hit in 2024
Anyone care to take a crack at how they can take that hit and somehow be in better shape for it?
Good grief

Props to you for your efforts to try and explain the importance and relevance of salary cap implications.

However, some fans/posters don't even try to understand the cap implications; and, unfortunately, some of them choose to assume (often incorrectly) that there are no negative cap implications.

I always love these convos where someone is like "player x will totally restructure their contract to give up 10s of millions of dollars for a chance to be traded to a team also struggling and we'd get a bunch of picks in return". It doesn't happen... ever.

Yeah fans find it easier to live in the make believe world. Reality is just too difficult.

That’s what I’m doing. Im giving it til week 5 or 6. If we are 3-3 or better I think we ride it out.
I was mad about the Noteboom extension but I feel we should extend Jackson if he has a productive season.

I think Stafford would restructure his deal, especially if he’s healthy and wants to keep playing.
Yeah giving away money is commonplace in today’s NFL. Nick Bosa wanted 50 million but settled for 34
