Yeah I was looking at this a bit more this morning and I am even more pissed off than I was yesterday about it. Tired of seeing Torry get shit on as if he was some fucking two bit accessory in the GSoT. It is maddening.Another thing on Holt, 2003 was basically the end of the GSOT "Era" where Holt could be perceived as a spoke in the wheel, but from 2004-2007 he averaged about 1,250 yards and 9 TD per season. Thus playing with the QB likes of a Broken down Bulger, Wish version of Chris Chandler, Jaime Martin, Fitz-Harvard, Gus "Head Butt" Frerotte and Brock "Cool name, lousy QB" Berlin throwing him the ball
On a side note, I dont have an issue with Hester getting in for his KR/PR, but Johnson just grinds my gears.
Seeing that video of him during his bust reveal was heartbreaking. To go from the hulk of a man that he was to what he is now is depressing.Lastly, sad to see Mongo suffering from ALS.
Yeah he is not in Holt's class as a wideout. Never was. Never will be. This had more to do with him being on a different team, and that natural need to feel like they need to spread the wealth, than going with merit. Because by merit Holt would already be in.Hester was a stud returner for a couple years. Then he settled into being a very good returner. I believe he had another phenomenal year mid-career. Very impressive but IMO nowhere near what Holt achieved.
I'm not sure he deserves it honestly....and I was a huge Holt fan.
Here's a blind comparison for you:
Player A:
11 seasons, 13382 yards, 74 TDs, one Super Bowl win, played with hall of fame QB, one first team all pro, six pro bowls
Player B:
16 seasons, 13777 yards, 65 TDs, no Super Bowl win, played with mediocre QBs, two first team all pros, three pro bowls
Player B also played an era prior to Player B, and the first five years on a pretty run heavy team.
I think Holt started out good, but the catch and tackle yourself routine left a lot of yards on the field. No way Vermeil would have stood for that. I think statistics aside Holt falls short of being a hall of famer,.
Yeah, Marvin Harrison would do that too. And Peyton Manning would dive to the ground whenever he felt pressure in the pocket. Avoid the big hit and live to play another down.but the catch and tackle yourself routine left a lot of yards on the field.
And yet Everett was vilified for the same thing. Go figure.Yeah, Marvin Harrison would do that too. And Peyton Manning would dive to the ground whenever he felt pressure in the pocket. Avoid the big hit and live to play another down.
People always made too much of it. For such a small, thin legged receiver, Bruce's longevity was due to the fact he never seemed to get hit cleanly.
Everett's was in the playoffs. Did Manning ever do that in the playoffs? And yet Everett was vilified for the same thing. Go figure.
I agree with Tano and I might be mistaken but while Manning did it to protect himself from a big hit, Everett was from a ghost sack. Big difference in my opinion.Everett's was in the playoffs. Did Manning ever do that in the playoffs?
Honest question.
