He's hurt and wasn't exactly given many opportunities to shine. If CJ wasn't there then Todd would've played more, simple as that.

Also, why is everyone acting like CJ dominated the game yesterday? Dude averaged 2.8 YPC and had 49 yards on 17 total touches. He wasn't any better than Todd, he just got way more opportunities.

Exactly CJ didn’t look any better yesterday. He didn’t attack the line at all kinda looked timid

CJ Anderson was sitting on his couch 3 weeks ago. Todd Gurley is one of the best players in football and got benched in the biggest game of his career and people are throwing accolades at him-that was the only point I was making.

As for his injury everyone on the Ram side says he’s fine-including him. Would he jeopardize a Hall of Fame career if he was hurt that bad?

We wouldn't be here without him. Wouldn't have won 13 games. Wouldn't have had the first round bye. He's banked enough good will through great play over many games that turning on him for one bad game is moronic. IMO.

McVay took a look at the flow of the game and Gurley's performance and made a judgment call in not utilizing him. As much as I think he is not 100% physically, Gurley might not have been there mentally either due to a personal issue unbeknownst to the public. Any good leader knows that sometimes even your best guys are having an off day so it was an opportunity to let other players shine like Shields.

I think the big takeaway that hasn't been discussed at all is that the Rams were able to win without the best RB in the league on for all the snaps and playing at the top of his game.

Who turned on him? I didn’t bench him. And your comment supports my point which is that McVay had a pretty quick trigger for one of the best players in the league in the biggest game of the year. That’s all I’m saying.

I’m also sure and hoping that he destroys the Pats in the Super Bowl. As for his performance in the Championship game let’s just say that in my opinion he is very lucky that he is getting a second chance because if the Rams lost it’s a different narrative. Been watching football many years and don’t ever remember a player of his caliber getting benched in the biggest game of the year.

Imagine that happened with an Emmett Smith, Jerry Rice, Thurman Thomas, etc.

Oh and Gurley is going to effin BEAST in the Super Bowl. You can bank that IMO.
I said the same thing after Gurley's first dropped pass that resulted in an int and points for the Saints. Then he preceded to drop another pass and whiff on a blitz pick-up which led to his benching. He's still the best all-around RB in the game, but something was very 'off' about him yesterday. Likely something only he and McVay knew about, and that's fine. He'll get his redemption soon enough.

270 yards in the Super Bowl?

My opinion is simply that Gurley is still hurt. He is our best offensive weapon, and usually plays every play. He may be rusty, but you don't bench the #1 play maker in the league for any reason. "You dance with the gurley that you took to the dance", right, or something like that? What's he supposed to say to the reporter... "my knee is killng me"? No wonder why he was acting awkward during the interview... he was lying.

Yeah we'll probably find out after the Super Bowl, doubt McVay is going to say a word about that knee until it's all over. I do think he needs some sort of scope at least, main thing is that he doesn't do further injury to it, as we need him to be healthy for the long haul.

Idk, I want to be positive about it. He came from Georgia. Rotating with other studs around him. I’m sure he’s been in games where he was rotated out most the game bc his teammate had a better game.
McVays different.
Todd has stopped short of well deserved touchdowns to burn the clock instead.
We have team players.
But I don’t know if I can think of any other case like this. It’s weird.

I saw a tweet earlier saying that Gurley was on the field for like 46% of the playtime to 54% for CJ.

Could it be that the game and the defense dictated more than just not playing Gurley?

Good point AJ. McVay definitely put a lot of the game on Goff and good thing, as the Saints were determined not be be "Dallas'd" in the run game. :p

The Saints run defense came out to play. That plus Gurley having a very bad start resulted in a different game plan by McVay. As noted Anderson didn't have any real success running the ball. It was a tough but gutsy call by McVay. No time to worry about egos... it was time to pick up the tempo and push the ball down the field. 2 weeks rest and playing in a neutral stadium, Gurley will big a big part of the game plan. I fully expect him to answer the bell. How sweet it would be to see him go off against the Pats.

I think he has a knee issue, which we all knew about, that isn't 100% back yet.

But I also think he has a muscle injury in his back too. Maybe from the horse collar tackle, maybe from something else.

You mention the block..........normally he just demolishes guys on the blitz.

He looked a bit stiff, like he was laboring, and a bit slow. He's normally so quick and fluid and graceful. He hasn't looked like that in a bit.

No HC uses Todd Gurley sparingly for a few early mistakes in the game you need to win to go to the SB unless something is up and you need to save him.

Something is afoot!

He was more emotional than I've ever seen him except maybe after his injury at Georgia. I think that really affected his play. I think he made a mistake and couldn't get his mind to the next play and then his next mistake leads to an INT and he psyched himself out.

Happens.

I really hope Gurley gets it all worked out in time because we'll need him.

Am I the only one that has noticed that during pre-game warm ups TG is wearing a colored face shield but during the games no face shield.

Whats that all about? Remember when CJ first got here he was interviewed and said he had shared some "tells" with his other teammates.

I'm guessing here..But could that be an issue?
He's been wearing it all season. I noticed Tree did it last season during pregame. It's just something players do. This is a Broncos pregame photo
