Goff doesn't need to have everything be perfect, but he's a young pocket passer, so yes, he needs good protection. Aaron Donald is the best player in the NFL. Goff isn't. Even with Suh, Donald was constantly doubled. Suh wasn't why Donald put up numbers last year. Donald doesn't need to be a one-man defense. He will have plenty of help. Let's stop being melodramatic. But we won't have a big-named pass rusher besides him. Resource allocation is too important. Maybe Obo steps up. He has potential.

It's not melodramatic for Goff to put up his above average numbers he needed 3 above average wide receivers a good offensive line and an all world running back. Give Donald the equivalent of that on defense and let's see how he performs. And I disagree 1000 percent suh did help Donald he had to be accounted for and opened some things up for him. Goff is like a science experiment he needs the perfect environment to have success Donald has proven he does not but some more assistance to Donald would go a long way in making his already amazing career even better......I am not saying Goff is a bust but we have to take our blinders off and understand he needs a lot of help to be successful. While Donald is the whole unit and has no real help next to him to eat up some blockers or help him get free or even see less doubles and triples yet he is the only one out of the big contracts handed out worth his money. We will have to keep investing in the offense to make goffs life easier while Donald's help will be overlooked cause he is a real true elite player. It's a moot point really but we will have to probably continue to sacrifice on defene cheap laborers because Donald is expected to play to his contract level with minimal help and continue putting money into the offensive payroll which is evidence that goff does need that perfect storm for success. They will need to resign Kupp of course but we probably will need to sink wtever cap we have into the o-line.

2. I would let Wade go.
I love wade but I think you are right he has just got to old. take a look at the 49ers vs green bay game the 9ers young dc had their dline so fired up they had the packers beat into submission by the end of the first quarter. that dc with all the raw raw and energy had their dl attacking green bay with such speed and violence that the packers were beat by the end of the 1st quarter.

Well, there's no magic fix. Like any other team, you go back to fundamentals and practice your scheme based on the upcoming opponent and hope the execution is on point afterward. This team has the talent to go far, but sometimes shit falls apart on ya. Anyone who's ever played Madden on anything higher than pro level can attest to that.

The Rams lost in a blowout to the hottest team in the league with the Qb that is playing crazy good. It was more fun when the Rams were that team,

Would anyone have any heartache with letting Wade go and replacing him by promoting Pleasant?

You know, I want to pump the brakes a little bit on dumping Wade. There has been a lot of "dump Wade" talk in the wake of Monday's debacle. But a lot of that is more a visceral, emotional reaction to what was a dumpster fire of a defensive effort. It's not like the defense has sucked all season long, and has had some really good efforts, even in losses (e.g., the 49er game, holding them to a just a bit over 300 yards total offense despite 38 minutes of possession). And he had to more or less re-vamp the secondary in the middle of the season, as thanks to injuries and trades he has three new guys out of the four that started the season.

Let's wait to the end of the season, judge his whole body of work, and see what he wants to do.

I want to see an off-season shake-up at the coaching & veteran player level. The Rams aren't getting the best bang for their buck, and that buck has to stop with McVay & Snead doing some serious house-cleaning. There already appears to be fan consensus asking for McVay to appoint an OC, someone who can help save McVay from a few of his own natural tendencies, someone who can offer a clear sounding board & realistic options.

Whether Wade or his age are becoming a problem, I don't know, but the team Defense has certainly become inconsistent. We have a mix of some very good and some mediocre players, and a few of the latter are likely to be lost to free agency, ... so we are now at a fork in the road to either improving our situation or making poor choices. Building around Donald, Ramsey, Littleton & JJ3 are paramount imo, this is the foundation for a successful future. Our young corps of Edge OLB'ers are poised to take the reigns from their expensive mentors, and we possess what appears to be some decent young rookie talent at other positions as well. Brockers & Fowler are imminently replaceable, as are Weddle and Matthews. As I see it, the Rams have a hole at DE & CB, harder to determine at ILB next to Littleton as we still have some rather untested depth, the rest is more about building/improving depth.

The offense is obvious, as goes the OL, so goes the entire unit. Say what you will about Goff & Gurley, this doesn't change, but we will be losing our elder statesman (Whitworth) to free agency/retirement, and Blythe will also hit the pavement. That makes our current poor OL situation even messier. 2020 will see two injured players coming off IR, a mix of one year players, a couple rookies and quite likely a free agent tossed into the salad bowl for good measure, ... Kromer's legacy & job may be staked on what he and McVay can establish with this newly evolving unit. Other than the OL, expect the remainder of our offense to stay intact.

While some will still fret over a lack of CAP resources, the Rams can have a very successful 2020 season with both our draft and our limited approach to free agency, we can only hope they get it right. It will be a very interesting off-season, however it turns out. jmo.

BLUF (bottom line up front):
Fix the O Line and we will be competitive again
1. Like many others, i think it's time to move on from Wade. Need to go young and energetic. I hate to say it but someone like the whiners defensive coach.
2. This is not as easy but, get all of our underachievers to restructure/take a pay cut for the good of the team (Goff, Gurley, Cooks)
3. Thank Big Whit for his service and let him go.
4. Let Fowler go in FA but keep CM as a situational pass rusher (don't count on him to seal the edge....)
5. Draft the best offensive lineman/linemen available when our turn comes.
6. Oh yeah thank EW for nothing and let him retire too (I saw he had 8 tackles in the box score but Monday night I only remember seeing him shy away from making tackles)
7. Find an upgrade over Hill at CB opposite Ramsey (and hope Ramsey signs)

1. Switch positions with Evans and Edwards, i.e. Evans RG and Edwards RT.
2. Play Shelton instead of Blythe at center. He's going to get Goff hurt. His blown blocking calls are part of the problem.
3. Start Gaines at NT. SJD is too damn soft and gets blownout on run plays in the middle. Gaines has shown more in limited snaps.
4. Start Ekubam over Mathews who is too damn limited. Samson is a complete OLB and Mathews isn't an OLB and the Packers knew it and moved him inside. He's a liability in coverage outside and doesn't set the edge.
5. Start Christian and Rapp and use Weddle as a backup where he belongs.
6. Start Long at CB over Hill who simply is a backup talent not a starter.
7. Start Ogbo at DE opposite Fowler. Move Brockers to rotate behind AD at 3T which is Brockers only real position. He can also backup Gaines at NT.

I don't understand McVay and Phillips. Watch the game vids the issues are clear. They have talent they aren't using or using improperly.

I am not advocating this nor could I bare to even see it or consider it however If there is only one way to relieve some cap space and regain those picks plus......I think you all know it. Out of all the huge contracts we have handed out only one is productive and possibly the best player in the nfl or at least in the running and thats Aron Donald. So the question is do we ride out the storm and let other key players go really not be able to add key players and in doing so if you can't add some mean Nasty O-line players GOFF will be done not even the next Jim Everett he may become the next David Carr. So you wasting Donald prime years and possibly ruining another huge investment? So Donald is the only one that can help the team the most by receiving a kings ransom for him. Does anyone of you have the guts or does anyone have any other ideas cause this is no easy fix no money no draft picks and no new free agents nor the ability to resign all key free agents coming up this team could backslide to being the nfl laughing stock unless someone gets creative here. Suggestions please.
Weddle and Mathews gives you what though like 10 million? The reason I brought Donald up was because he is the guy that performs and has a huge contract but can land you cap space and a kings ransom possibly picks and players.

1. Edwards looks better at OG than RT. Evans has been better at RT than Edwards was.
2. No.
3. I'd give Gaines more snaps, but I don't agree that SJD has been bad.
4. Agree.
5. Christian isn't reliable enough, and Weddle calls the plays on defense.
6. Agree.
7. I'd like to see Obo get more snaps. Brockers is a 3-4 DE. He should remain at the 4T/5T.

Goff put up way more than above average numbers in 2017 and 2018.

Why would we do that? That takes resources away from the offense. QB is a more important position than DT. It's bad resource allocation to choose to help Donald over Goff when Donald plays a less important position and needs less help.

This is called effective resource allocation. (And I still strongly disagree that Goff needs "the perfect environment" to have success. That's bullshit.)

we seem to agree to disagree on this one but to me I would put the eggs or allocate the funds into the player that is producing living up to his contract and is considered to be one of the best players in the game at any position. Goff may very well be a good quarterback but do any of us think he will ever be top 5 qb or top 5 player at any position? He may very well just be a complimentary piece who needs multiple other complimentary pieces. And we all know the old saying defense wins championships. I get all your points and they are valid and I respect that you have great faith in goff and defend him with great conviction i myself am just not sold yet.

We've already paid both Goff and Donald. That's irrelevant to the conversation. What we're talking about is allocating funds to help Goff or to help Donald. It is a losing proposition to not help out the QB. You're defeating your own argument when you say Goff needs complementary pieces. That's the argument for allocating resources to help boost him.

The fact that Donald doesn't need them to anywhere near the same extent makes the argument that the more efficient resource allocation is using them to boost Goff's game. And, of course, there's the fact that a QB has a greater impact on wins and losses. That only bolsters the argument for helping Goff.

The old saying of "defense wins championships" is just that---an old saying. In today's NFL, offense gets you to the playoffs and the championship. If we want to get back to the top, we need to allocate more resources into rebuilding our OL than anything else.

@jrry32 It's an old saying that still holds true many times. Hence a 13-3 Super Bowl loss.

And as far as my point with Donald maybe I'm not doing a good enough job explaining myself. What's done is done but if you have so many funds already allocated on offense and need to add more to help Goff be good not even great, realistically how much more money do we add? At he expense of Aaron Donald and the defense. It doesn't seem fair to not help the actual game changing player in Donald. A dominant defense cold help a sagging offense.
Putting it bluntly the way goff has been playing I think Bortles would have this team with the same record maybe better even a game manager with above average pieces can win. Now take Donald off the defense this year and we may have one win with how the offense has played and goff. We are in a position now because of early contracts where we will have to cut more defense probably to sign some o-line help. Teams need to have some balance to me successful or at least have one totally dominant unit. So I'd build around Donald. Besides an excellent offense is great and exciting but it doesn't necessarily help the defense for the obvious reason of scoring and putting the defenseman to bk out etc....but an excellent defense can go a long way for a mediocre offense.

I made a list in another post of the things I feel McVay can improve on and still stick to those. And what we are seeing now is one of those elements where you wonder what is the standard. "The standard is the standard." As I mentioned it is all over Rams' park. But right now it's just a slogan, just empty words. I mean hey, let's allow guys to eff up all over the field without sitting them for half the season. Let's reward them with loads of time off when they don't perform. Way I see it at least you just can't do that in a competitive environment and expect sustained excellence. You cannot. That is a cancer cell that will devour a roster from the inside. And you cannot argue that the depth guys are the reason for not sitting some of these guys who stunk it up, because that does not change the fact you have to hold players accountable for not performing no matter who they are. That is, after all, how you actually enforce a standard.

But anyway. I'm a little irritated because this past game has a ton of quit in the film. And I fear this team is going to crumble. Getting them to finish strong, if it happens, will be McVay's finest hour IMO.
