Stafford is the 11th highest paid QB in football and he’s having a top 5 season. When he plays, this Rams offense finishes in the top 5 of almost every offensive metric. This is despite Cooper Kupp 4 games and the Rams having the 2nd highest “dropped passes” percentage in the league.

Also—and this is just my opinion—but when Stafford is done McVay will be done too (at least for a season or 2). That doesn’t mean you can’t start looking toward the future but McVay and Les are gonna squeeze every ounce out of 9, 10, and 99 they can before this ride ends.

With 2024 QB draft class here and it’s very apparent the Rams are clearly in the market/interest for a QB and the future of the team which was made apparent by the drafting of Stetson Bennett.

This draft could be on level of that 83’ draft class. Not even considering Maye/Williams since they’ll certainly go top 5, that means there will be a race for Daniel’s, McCarthy, Pennix, or Nix.

There will still be plenty of teams around our draft position wanting a QB as well like the Vikings, Bucs, Atlanta, Seattle, Whiners, maybe Green Bay.

I’m in the firm belief we are and also need to target a QB if trading up or taking one at our position is feasible.

Staffords play has started to deteriorate slowly, with more and more erratic play.

It’s time.
"deteriorate" ???????
How many complete passes in a row did he start out the game with ?
Talking heads were falling all over themselves talking about how his arm could last another 5 years.
He is at the top of his game right now.
Not sure what you are looking at.
I do not like any of the collage quarterbacks all that much.
Wait I say.

Also—and this is just my opinion—but when Stafford is done McVay will be done too (at least for a season or 2). That doesn’t mean you can’t start looking toward the future but McVay and Les are gonna squeeze every ounce out of 9, 10, and 99 they can before this ride ends.

I so hope you're wrong about that.

Me too. In a perfect world, my thought would be that Sean and Les can get someone they really believe in this draft, and allow him to develop for a few years under Stafford. Then we’re in good shape for when Stafford retires and McVay has a guy who’s young and ready to take the reins.

Okay, show me what isn’t cherry picking? I’ll wait.
I don't know what you mean by showing you what "isn't" cherry picking, but what is cherry picking is taking a screenshot of Stafford's stats the past five games and intentionally leaving his TD/Int ratio out of the picture.

You intentionally left out the TD/Int ratio because you know that 12 TD/3 Int over that same 5 game screenshot extrapolates to 40 TDs/12 Ints over a 17 game season which defeats your argument that he is regressing. It would be like if I only mentioned his TD/Int ratio while ignoring his completion % and YPA.

The funny thing is that I agree we should start looking at QB of the future in the next few years but I don't like how you feel the need to cherry pick stats to put down our current QB to do it. Especially when he's playing as well as he has been.

I really don’t think a QB is in the early plans in the draft if they can sign Wentz to hang around as a backup
I agree that you build around your studs while they are still studs.
And I think we still have 3 veteran studs.

I love Stafford. But I would like to have a young QB behind him. I just have a hard time saying I would use that first pick on it.

But I don't think Corbin is wrong. All it would take is McVay really vibing with one of them then him being there on the board in the right spot. Question is what spot is that possible.

Don't profess to know that. We don't get to watch their whiteboard sessions or hear the staffs' takes on them or see their medical reports.

I will just say again to take a QB who has courage, and the size to win from the pocket.

All you have to do is look at Stafford's contract. When they drew it up it's clear his projected retirement then was 2025. It still is. Matt alluded to it when asked about his retirement before the season. He has a targeted retirement date. Thats why expect the Rams to take a QB in this draft to redshirt him for a year to learn McVays system.

I'm sure the Rams have at least one targeted QB.

He also has 12 TD passes against only one interception in his last 4 games. Or, said another way, ever since Kyren Williams returned to the field.
Look I'm all for looking to the future and all but I'm really starting to think that Staff has a lot more football in him than we thought just a month ago.

Having said all that I wouldn't mind trading down to a team that is desperate for a QB but I don't see the Rams taking a QB any time before the 5th round if that.

Let other teams pay a king's ransom for one....we have a QB and his name is Matthew Stafford!!

I know we need a QB but it doesn't have to be via draft.

That said, does Wentz have anything left in the tank?

And..... Kyren Williams has a burst and power that Cam Akers seemed to be lacking, based on comparisons now.

I say bring Wentz to Training Camp next year and if he puts up good tape sign 'em for a year or so...

Also, besides Williams' power and burst he has excellent vision; something else that Cam seemed to lack a bit...

Underrated point here. McVay NEEDS someone he meshes well with in order for him to be the guy. High energy, leadership, character, and whip smart.

Rams would be crazy and stupid to use a premium pick on a QB next year. Thankfully, they are neither.

Stafford has repeatedly said he has no plans to retire anytime soon.

Rams have a chance to win another ring with MS, AD, and CK. They will rightly surround them with as much talent as possible. This off-season they will have plenty of needs on OL, DL, LB, and DB, just for starters.

No way they waste their 2024 first rounder on a QB just to hold a clipboard for the next 3 years.

If Wentz is going to be the bridge QB, then even if he doesn't play this year, they still get a look at him in practice and see what he's got.

The problem with Wentz has always been in his head. I think once he sees the Rams are going to draft a QB he won't return.
