Thoughts on our OL currently

Saints have a great pass rush, and they were great today. The OL struggled. Demby had a rough start, but he did seem to improve. Still, I'm concerned. Allen seemed like a mixed bag. Havenstein got whooped by Cam Jordan. Goff really stepped up in the second half and delivered under pressure.

Goff needs to learn how to play consistently good under duress. The more he does it the better he will get. The oline will improve, in the mean time goff gets better I hope.

It's early with no preseason for the rookies. They made some mistakes and there was pressure up the middle. Havestein had a lot of trouble on the outside. Now you add Demby and you have a very young inexperienced offensive line. Today they couldn't open holes early in the middle. A little early to panic but, they have to start improving. Goff getting a slow start didn't help. They have to do at least one effectively, pass block or run block to get the other going. No time to panic but, there should be some concern.
 
Well, I'm concerned and Demby had some issues, depending on the severity of the injury the Rams could make a move, but even if they make a move most likely Demby is the starter moving forward.

Kromer will have to step in and try to upgrade over Demby as he is bigger than Blythe but neither are the answer when we have Edwards to use now before he replaces Whit next year. I like Noteboom where he is as he helps Allen. We can't keep trying to make Demby work. I thought preseason should have settled that as a fact by now. How he made the 53 over a few others is still a mystery. We must fix Jarrads protection in his face NOW!!!!!! It's tooo important not to go any further without a better fix.

Yes Goff needs to get better under pressure, we all can agree there. But our offense runs SOOO many long developing play-action routes, McVay is asking our OL to hold blocks for much longer than other teams. We could run more screens, more of a quick passing game, and be more selective with our 7 step drop calls. Also committing to the run shouldn't be too much to ask when you have Todd Gurley, especially when the Saints are playing 2-high zone all day asking us to run at them. The young o-linemen gain confidence and will pass block better after mauling someone off the line a few times.

I don't get the stubbornness in saying "Goff needs to be better under pressure." He HASN'T shown that he can do that consistently yet in his career. Why not tweak the offense a bit now that we're expecting more pressure with inexperienced o-lineman playing, instead of hoping Goff is better under pressure? If Brees doesn't go down, and they get the fumble-TD call which they should have, who knows how the momentum swings in that game.

It's Kromertime and I wanna MRI on Blythe's ankle and a timetable for a healthy return as he even helps Havenstein who had a record bad day against Cam Jordon ho he has played against much better before and must step his game again as he is getting paid to play better and is needed to execute this offense . We have to play like we are World Champions and not as equals with the cheating taints. Havenstein needs to step his game up against the best players in todays game. Havnstein had a great season stopping sqcks and pressures last season. We need a better effort from him.

I honestly didn't even know Maine had a football team until we signed Demby. My roomates used to play ball against the UMaine Presque Isle team lol.
 
I thought Allen was alright and Demby was better than I expected although that was brutal start. What really concerns me is Hav had his arse handed to him today.

This. Everyone is on Goff’s ass about being terrible under pressure. But god damn does McVay call LONG developing plays. What the hell is Goff supposed to do when he’s got 5 guys in his face and receivers haven’t even turned their heads yet? He doesn’t get many checkdown options.

Take a look at how the Patriots do things. They’ll get one or two guys downfield and the rest are sitting on short routes. That’s how Brady gets the ball off so quick. 1-2-2.5 okay nobody open check it down. And it’s worked for 20 years.

Our offense can be shut down easily if our receivers aren’t getting open. That’s not Goff’s fault. It’s McVays.

I think it’s odd that he isn’t better under pressure. He had a terrible Oline in college and he was very good under pressure back then.
 
At week 2, I'd say they're pretty good. The more games under their belt the more solid they'll get. Noteboom and Blythe are coming along nicely.
 
It's still too early to worry as far as the season is concerned.

We just have to make sure they're peaking out about playoff time.

We just replaced 40% of the offensive line with two second-year players.

I expect them to look a little shaky on and off and make a few dumb mistakes here and there.

As long as they don't get Goff hurt and we keep winning they're going to keep getting better and getting coached up.

Every game they play is just an opportunity to get more tape on them and help them fix their mistakes.

Which I fully expect them to do thanks to us having one of the best offensive line coaches in the NFL.

They need to use their TE's more. Can't rely so heavily on your 3 WRs all the time. It gets too predictable.
