Mixed feelings on this. Sure the media gets annoying pecking away at the very thing we're tired of hearing. (They still can't let Krapperdick go!!!) I look at it as each media member wants to be first to break some big story for whatever reason, clicks or notoriety. (Reporter A: "First!!!") So I get that. Annoying little cockroaches sometimes. Some don't care if they ruffle rich athlete feathers. And as we know the story about Gurley is his health if he misses more than a few plays.

Another thing i see is that they also practically put him in the HoF due to his performnace and numbers before the injury thing came up. So taking another angle on it... what if Dickerson ever had to share the ball? When he missed games it was because of a holdout, and even back then that was the main story in early 1985. What if Emmitt Smith had to share duties after missing games? Or Jim Brown?? We know Gurley is a superstar so if anything happens to his workload questions come up. "He didn't play the whole 1st half but finished with 300 total yards what's wrong??"

I for one along with some of you am happy we have a good backup in Malcolm, and that the Rams are addressing possible future concerns with decent RB depth.

I expect reporters to ask questions.

Why?

Because it's their job to do so. It's their job to try to uncover information.

Disrespecting that is counter to our free society.

You can dislike the questions. But don't dislike that they are being asked.

Gurley has an issue with his knee, Yesterday DID NOT prove that he doesn't. His knee flares up and gives him problems from time to time. The rest of the time he is fine. I don't know why this is so fucking difficult for people to understand. This is not a full time condition. And last year it flared up a few times. This year the same thing will probably happen.

The media makes WAY LESS of this than fans do. Just on this board the mods had to put a thread up to combine all the non stop threads about his knee.

It's like people are trying to find something to point to that will "prove" his knee is just fine.

Reporting speculation as fact is where the media gets themselves in trouble. We see that happen a lot in our society.

See the same with Goff and the narrative of how McVay calls aubibles for him. Here on Philly radio, whenever Goff's name comes up that is what everyone talks about because that have been the sports media's narrative of Goff.

The play you're talking about happened around the 8:15 minute mark in the 4th quarter. That's not really "kill the clock" time in a game that was still only 23-20.

The DB also had the angle on him with a d-lineman closing in from the inside. He could've cut inside the DB and maybe gotten a few more yards before getting sandwiched between the two defenders but I'm not going to read too much into it. If it becomes a regular thing on plays where he clearly could've gotten more yardage then I'll say he's preserving himself.

McVay is one of the smartest coaches in the league. What he has accomplished in a relatively short time is mind boggling. The vast majority of the media and fans believe the Rams were gifted the victory in the NFC Title Game so this season they have become Ram haters. They are completely oblivious to the truth. So McVay is managing Gurley's workload. So what? So maybe TG does have an arthritic knee. He loves the guy and and wants him to enjoy as many years as humanly possible in the NFL. Kudos to coach, Todd, Brown and the entire team and organization.

A lot of it is about word games.

When a reporter asks, “Will Gurley be on a pitch count?”, of course McVay is going to say no. Doesn’t want to tip his hand.

But if a reporter changes the wording and asks, “will the Rams be mindful of Gurley’s carries to keep him fresh for the end of the season?” well, then, I bet McVay would say yes.

Besides, McVay would love any question that includes the word “mindful.” ;)

And that's what a lot of people are apparently missing. This is smart strategy. This is long term vision in an "instant gratification" world. Mcvay has the horses to play it this way. Brown is actually better up the middle. He is a bruising runner. He will soften most Ds up for Gurley in the 4th Qtr. It's what Gurley used to be able to do for himself when he was younger. The NFL is a grueling gauntlet for RBs. It always has been. It always will be. Let the media over reach and paint a picture that is irrelevant to McVay's strategy. It only helps us. The rest of the league will figure it out in due time after Gurley continues to punish them in the 4th quarter. Gurley's knee is fine or it's not but McVay has the ammo to make it seem irrelevant as long as Brown is healthy. Wait until Henderson starts getting a few more plays designed for him. The fantasy gurus will go bonkers with the split time between our backs. And we will be better and very difficult to scheme. So everybody keep the smoke rising!!! I love the cover. ;)

It's real simple.. You do not pay Malcom Brown $3M to touch the ball 1 or 2 times a game. Nor do you draft Henderson in the 3rd round to sit on the bench.

And more importantly, you do not pay Todd Gurley $15M a yr for 4 yrs to run him into the ground in 2.

Yep, there were two players chasing him and the big man was coming from inside.

Being objective means observing the entire situation.

Not entirely, because that would be telegraphing the play call with the player, not that there aren’t yet options to vary the game enough to stay unpredictable. But in general, McVay was matching up Gurley against cornerbacks and safeties, whereas he preferred Brown on linebacker matchups.

Well first off people are asking questions and that's fine. I don't think that many people are "reporting speculation as fact" in this case. They are making guesses based on info they are getting from questions they ask Gurley and McVay. In fact there isn't much of that happening at all. A little, but not as you say "a lot". And that goes for media all over the board including sports media. Asking "what is going on with Gurley's knee" is most of what is out there and that's normal reporter questioning. Knowing that he has an issue with his knee is going to draw questions each week to see how it is.

McVay has probably changed the play from the sideline, and I'm sure other coaches have too ever since the QB has had a headset in his helmet. I think Goff gets tagged with "his coach is telling him what to do aned whre to throw" because McVay has been so animated.

We know it's Goff that is throwing the ball.

Did you notice Brady looking over to the sideline looking to Belichick with the time out symbol inquisitively as Bill was scribbling on his board against the Steelers?

I didn’t notice the announcers making a big deal about that, and you could see an almost panicked look on his face as he was waiting for the play call, though his urgency was clearly about the play clock.

BTW on the Goff thing. It kills me that there is no issue with Wentz carrying the playbook on his wrist.
Yet somehow Goff with McVay on the headset which every other QB also has, is an issue.

He actually did that a couple times. I didnt like it, but I dont think it was due to his knee. He looked good other than stepping out instead of fighting for more yards.
And that has GOT to be part of the reality of staying healthy longer. Does no one remember Tory hitting the turf or striding out of bounds when he could get more yards? It is smart play rather than getting the shit beat out of you.
