The timing of calls and non-calls comes off a game fixing.

Calling a penalty for P.I. which sometimes turns out to be 40 or more yards, or consecutive holding penalties at crucial times in a game can make the difference between a win and a loss. Sure it's the players fault for committing the penalties but how come those same penalties weren't called at different times of the game and equally on both teams?

While I'm not quite ready to buy into the game fixing conspiracy theory, I can see why some would think that.

Pass interference should be 15 yards. Not where the foul was committed.

It’s amazing that Donald gets held on almost every play and yet he still causes havoc. Just goes to show how great he is.

But if it's only a 15 years penalty then committing the foul becomes a function of how far you are from the LOS. 16 yards and you're pretty sure the receiver will catch it? Commit the foul. 30 yards and it's a 50/50? Commit the foul. 15 yards or less, never commit the foul.

Turning fouls into a strategy is bullshit. Leave it at spot of the foul.

Could we just get the flag thrown on at least the FLAGRANT holds?

Is that asking too damned much?

1st quarter, 2nd quarter, overtime, I don’t care.

Current policy enables, even encourages a mediocre OL player to neutralize a HOF type player and get away with it 4 out of 5 times, if not more.

How is that good for the league?

How if the offense gets automatic first down?

Maybe if they refs called more holding penalties the OL would be less likely to hold on every play.

They cant make PI a 15 yard penalty. They would yank the receiver down every time they were about to get beat and you would almost never see a pass over 25 yards.

Seriously? You think teams will gift 15 yards and a first down every time? Cmon

At home games they should get the guys running the screens to put the holds in a video loop to play during TV timeouts. Maybe McVay can get the film guys to do a montage.
A TV timeout isn't long enough.
Maybe a half time show?

Not if the penalty is what prevented the pass from being caught.
Receivers drop balls. It’s not a guarantee they will catch it. Assuming he would have and gifting them all that yardage is stupid. If the reciever catches the ball while being interfered, tack on 15 to where he caught the ball.

I know it sounds awful, because I hate seeing anyone get hurt, on any team... but the NFL at its best is a violent team sport with dramatic consequences possible on every snap... I like watching the intense struggle of going against a great defense and low scores are far better than bad refs.
And I say call the obvious holding penalties until they stop holding..... then if people really want to protect QBs more, they can start running the ball 40 times a game and bring back the damn fullback position..

Exactly. Getting 30, 40, 50 yards on a penalty is stupid.
Right, which is why they try not to commit the penalty. If the penalty was 15 yards and a first down only, CBs would gladly do commit the foul instead of give up a 30, 40, 50 yard pass (which comes with it's own first down anyway). As it stands, if they commit the foul the field position is essentially the same as giving up the catch, so they don't do it and just try to play good defense. If they could give up 30 less yards by committing the foul, that would be the preferred method of stopping downfield throws.

If a team is constantly giving you 15 yards and a first down you take that all day. How is that gonna stop downfield throws? The offense would keep throwing downfield until they stop interfering and actually try to play good defense.

I don't know how you would play it, but if I am 50 yards down field, and the throw is on target, and PI is only 15 yards, there is NO WAY that WR is catching that ball. ESPECIALLY if we are near the endzone.

I hate the pace of play excuse. Back them up to their 1 for a drive and see if that’s dissuades them from holding. Rules should be rules. You have to think getting backed an entire drive on national television would send a message.

Unfortunately, at the end of the day we are at the mercy of the fact that the NFL is a business. They can change and/or bend the rules to their favor just to keep the $$$ coming in :sick::sick:
