He might not be the most valuable player in the league, but he is the best player overall.

Well, fellas! Goff, Brees and Luck stunk this week. Donald and Gurley stock up but Donald has to be the front runner because without him the Rams go home with a loss today.

Let’s start with the most valuable on the Rams. Other than the first couple of games to knock the rust off Donald has been the most consistently impactful player on the Rams. Not only is he attacking the QB and RB with unparalleled vigor he is starting to pick up holding calls against the OL responsible for keeping him out of the backfield.

Since AD got his first sack, he's averaged more than 2 sacks per game.

At this pace, he's looking at 24.5 sacks...

That's beyond crazy.

Moreover, we play the Cards and 9ers and we'll likely have to win out to retain Home Field so no one gets a pass. We play out the season hard.

I think it's very possible we're watching the greatest season by a defender... EVER. I say that without the slightest bit of exaggeration or hyperbole.

In a league that defenses have been crippled to the extreme, he still takes over games. The last 2 have been ridiculous. He won us the game today, its incredible to watch him.

Nice post, Jake.

But I have to say, good as he is, AD is not even the MVP on his own team.

Want proof? Ask yourself this question. Which player, Goff or AD, could the Rams least afford to lose and still expect to win a game? Especially a playoff game?

Yes, it’s ironic, isn’t it? AD looks like a lock to make the HOF and Goff still has to make a case for that honor which will take years, if ever.

But this team would NEVER be 10-1 without Goff. And Gurley, Cooks, Woods, and formerly Kupp would all be struggling instead of thriving.

QB’s Trump DL, or any other position, for that matter.

I rest my case.

This team wouldn't be 11-1 without Aaron Donald either.

If he gets the record at least he will not have a sack just given to him like Brett F. did.
It will be a honest record.

What would our record be without strip sacks by 99?

I'd approach this a little differently. Put it like this:

If we traded Goff for an average QB, we would still be a pretty damn good team. The offense would still easily be top 10 in the NFL.

Now, if we traded Donald for an average DT our defense would be in shambles. He has single-handedly won us quite a few games this year. He's so much better than an average player at his position, or even the 2nd best player at his position. He faces more double teams than any other lineman and he is still on pace to challenge for the sack record! To do that as a DT is absolutely unheard of! The dude is the MVP right now.

while i don't disagree with you about AD i must vehemently disagree with you about goff. just because he makes all those throws look easy it doesn't mean they actually are easy. i don't think he gets enough credit for his play. his accuracy is off the charts. did you see what happened when he was a bit off today, that would be an average qb display. it might be enough to beat the lions but it won't beat good teams.

I never said it was easy for Goff and I've never been one of these people that says McVay makes Goff what he is. I loved Goff coming out of college and I love him now.

That being said, our offense is loaded even without Goff. Like I said, we would still easily be a top 10 offense without Jared. He isn't even a top 3 QB playing right now. Aaron Donald is the best DT of ALL TIME. The drop off from him to an average DT is so large that our defense would suffer terribly.

Yeah i'm that guy who voted for Wilson. Disregarding the current MVP merits he's a true MVP. That's a bad team that couldn't score a lick, win games or do anything without him.

Inline with the discussion i think Brees gets it. Would LOVE to see Donald get it though.

Do you guys think with all the success AD is having that Suh feels a little dissapointed in himself? I mean we all thought that Suh would post great numbers this year as well playing alongside Donald and vice versa but the impact numbers wise hasn’t been there. Is Suh washed up or is he just taking a back seat on purpose to allow Donald to make the more splashy plays?
BTW AD is the DPOY and MVP (if he gets the sack record and we go 15-1)

This isn't last year's Seahawks team. The offensive line is much improved and they statistically have the best running game in the NFL. Wilson has more help than years past.

Get real...Without Jared Goff we have Sean Mannion, and thay's a freakin disaster. We'd be the Jacksonville Jaguars with Mannion and thinking about the draft.

How can you say that when Donald is defeating double teams all day? Suh's play has nothing to do with Donald's tenacity and straight up skill and explosion..
