AND, he loves Aaron Donald!I’d definitely be in on Chase Young, for 3rd and a new contract.

True, but we have the ability to franchise Young if we deal for him, and we get first come-first served for a contract.I'm hoping the Rams sit tight at the trade deadline. Also expecting that to be the case. Snead and McVay have been pretty honest with their comments about the 2023 season and strategy. It feels like a Re-Set-Year ... Coach hard and to win ... Play hard and to win ... But Go With What You Got.
I have been both surprised and pleased that the Rams have been competitive in every game.
A couple weeks ago, McVay was asked about trade deadline acquisitions.
He could have given a simple 'We will see' or the generic 'We are always looking to upgrade the roster' but instead he gave a matter of fact answer that 'Unlike in prior years, they lacked the assets to make a move' That was kind of telling to me.
Maybe Washington would take the Rams' third round pick for Young, figuring that it might be #75-#85 overall. However, I would not want them to give-up that pick. They got Byron Young at #77 and Kobie Turner at #89.
From Chase Young's point-of-view, I don't know why he would agree to a long-term contract when he would be so close to free agency, unless the Rams offered top-Edge-$ which is between $25M-$30M Average-Annual-Value. Yes, the Franchise Tag would be an option but that would take up almost half of the Rams' projected off-season cap space, and leave an unhappy player.
It just doesn't seem like a smart play for a team that needs significant talent upgraded to its roster.
Finally, unlike Cornerback and Left Tackle, there could be some quality Edge players in Free Agency:
Brian Burns (Carolina / 25)
Josh Allen (Jacksonville / 26)
Chase Young (WSH / 25)
Rashan Gary (G.B. / 25)
Montez Sweat (WSH / 27)
A.J. Epenesa (Buffalo / 25)
Josh Uche (N.E. / 25)
Danielle Hunter (MN / 30)
Dorance Armstrong (Dallas / 26)
Marcus Davenport (MN / 27)
Yannick Ngakoue (Chicago / 29)
Za’Darius Smith (Cleveland)
Carl Lawson (NY Jets / 28)
Charles Harris (Detroit / 29)
Yetur Gross-Matos (Carolina / 26)
Some of those players will be re-signed, and a few will get tagged but some should be available.
That list doesn't make me question my stance. There are a small number of guys who are potential difference makers. Of that group, maybe half hit FA. And we'll be competing with a lot of other teams to go after them. If Chase Young is available for a reasonable price, I'd take a shot. I think he can become a 10+ sack a year player. I might be proven wrong, but it's a risk I'd take.I'm hoping the Rams sit tight at the trade deadline. Also expecting that to be the case. He’s nothing more than a swing Tackle for the Rams so I doubt the Rams would get better than a 6th for him but What cap $$ relief would the Rams get with trading Note now?Sure sounds like from Jourdan's piece today that Rams will be sellers if anything during this trade deadline (rhymes with Hoperoom) and not buyers.
Though it didn't sound like anything more than some inquires on Boom from other teams.

Plus getting rid of his contract for next season. He’s nothing more than a swing Tackle for the Rams so I doubt the Rams would get better than a 6th for him but What cap $$ relief would the Rams get with trading Note now?
Not much. Less than $1 million. He’s nothing more than a swing Tackle for the Rams so I doubt the Rams would get better than a 6th for him but What cap $$ relief would the Rams get with trading Note now?
He has done absolutely nothing to warrant being paid on the franchise tag. You don't franchise a 4 year who hasn't played a full season and has 14 career sacks in 33 games played. That's a terrible move for a team. I get wanting the guy but some of the ideas about him I just cannot get behind. Trade for him sure. A 3rd round pick maybe, a 4th or 5th sure do it. Franchise him? Hard hard hard pass.True, but we have the ability to franchise Young if we deal for him, and we get first come-first served for a contract.
Again, if we only have to give up a third for Chase Young on a signed contract, I consider that a steal because I'd be fine with giving up a second for a former #2 overall pick who's only going to be twenty-five next year.
We'd gain whatever is left of his base pay of $1.5 million. We'd add his pro rated bonus in the future. He’s nothing more than a swing Tackle for the Rams so I doubt the Rams would get better than a 6th for him but What cap $$ relief would the Rams get with trading Note now?
I question if some of these guys even fit what the Rams are trying to do on defense. Finally, unlike Cornerback and Left Tackle, there could be some quality Edge players in Free Agency:

He'd have about 11 more games to do so (not including potential playoffs). He has done absolutely nothing to warrant being paid on the franchise tag. How dare you insult the greatness that is Yetur Gross-Matos!...
And I think the word quality might be a bit overstated for some of these guys.
...
So we'd franchise a guy who's had one decent season in four? He'd have to have 50 sacks after we trade for him (obvious hyperbole) to justify being franchised. The franchise tag this year for his position is $20.9 million, he's not done anything to warrant that pay and IMO can't by the end of the year. He'd have about 11 more games to do so (not including potential playoffs).

Sorry but no paying Young even just once over $20 million based on his performance will never in my mind be a good idea. That's TJ Watt's base pay this year. It's not supposed to be used this way, but he might be a better investment on a franchise tag given it's simply a one-year deal. He would have the remainder of 2023 and the entire 2024 season to play for an extension. If he flops in 2024 you let him walk and move on.
FWIW I've seen at least 4 different NFL media people covering the league all say the Rams are among the teams standing pat at the trade deadline. Not buyers or sellers which makes sense with their stated views about 2024.
Other than the few big names nobody.Who could the Rams realistically trade that would get back more than a late round pick swap?
I really can't think of anyone.
