I did not read the article so maybe just my ignorance here but, they signed a player to a bad contract and are able to void that and just walk away with no cap ramifications while we’ve been on the hook for AD two years after his retirement? Dafuq?!

They've still already paid him $50m the last couple of years and have gotten zero in return.

AD earned every cent of his contract.

One thing to keep in mind, the Niners will still have salary cap charges for Aiyuk in 2026 (and possibly 2027) ... just not as much as they otherwise would have had.
This part matters to me. I was under the (false) impression that they were getting off Scot free and it pissed me off. Glad to know they still take some sort of cap hit.

As for the comp to AD, it was only about the situation, paying for a player no longer on the team, and certainly not the quality of the player.

AD retired and we still had to pay him 25 mill the last 2 years. how does that work ?
Am I missing something ?

they had to use void years in his contract so he could fit under the cap.

the eagles have half their roster the same way so they can roster so many of their high priced players.

No.

Donald did NOT get paid by the Rams for the last 2 years.

Am I missing something ?

Yes.

You are confusing the ACTUAL payment of Money by a team (Rams) to a player (Donald).
With
How PREVIOUSLY Paid Money is Allocated (Spread-out) for salary cap purposes by the team.

It's nothing more than Book-Keeping Rules for the Team's Salary Cap.

Donald was on the Rams' cap for two seasons (2024 and 2025) After he retired.
Whitworth was on the Rams' cap for two seasons (2022 and 2023) After he retired.
The contracts of Higbee and Havenstein are expiring this year. Both will be on the Rams' cap next year.

No money will be PAID by the Rams. The money has all been paid. It has NOT yet ALL hit the Rams' cap.

Jennings should be suspended, hitting someone after the game inexcusable (even with what Moehig had done earlier).

What a terrible culture that Shanahan has created in SF (so happy about this though)? That was premeditated thuggery, there is a reason that 49ers are a dirty team and it starts with the HC whose philosophy seems to be do whatever you want as long as you don't get a penalty. The problem with that is that players will not always be in control and make good decisions.

McVay would not accept this, let alone support it.
There is a reason why the Rams culture is so great.
