No, the one thing you can't do is quit on your team - your brothers - in the middle of a game. Nobody has ever come back from that. Not Antonio Brown, not anyone I've seen, and certainly not someone like Campbell.

They fought the Buccaneers on Antonio Brown. They'll use the same arguments there, except on a non-playoff team.

Irrelevant how? His influence is still in the locker room, and the player's union will fight management, giving the team an extra headache to deal with. It's not weak to cut out the cancer as soon as it appears rather than fight tooth and nail to find a way to extract it in an unconventional way. But that ship's long sailed; were I 69ers management (and thank holy fate I'm not), he'd be done before the game ended, and I'd have said as much.

And like I said, who gives a shit about his salary aside from 49ers management? Players get paid their signing bonus no matter what. They go after Campbell's signing bonus, that opens the floodgates to anyone for anything.

Again, I don't give a shit what happens to the 69ers except for it hopefully being the absolute worst, and I hope it opens that can of worms for them.
Yet you're arguing helping him for doing it :)

The union didn't argue for Brown because that was the last game of the season and he was never on a roster again.

Did you actually read or listen to what his teammates said about Campbell? Because if you did and you think those comments mean they will support him over the team and coach then I need your hearing aid because that's a tone that I never heard from them.

As for his salary and signing bonus everybody involved cares. He wants the money. The team wants the money back. The players don't want this worthless chunk of shit keeping money or making money after he quit on them.

I honestly cannot fathom how you're making this argument it really baffles me.

Ward has a 12.2 void year in 2025
Greenlaw a 1.8 void year in 2025

Deebo has a 33.1 void year in 2026
Kittle has a 13.6 void year in 2026
Floyd has a 6.4 void year in 2026

Williams has a 29.3 void year in 2027
Warner has a 9.4 void year in 2027
Hargrave has a 10.1 void year in 2027

McCaffrey is signed through 2027 (with a cap hit of 27.4 at age 31)

Bosa is signed through 2028
Aiyuk is signed through 2028

So they probably have 1 or 2 more years before the shit really hits the fan.

At 6-8, the shit might already be all over the fan.

You did a good job with their cap issues, pre Purdy extension…

Trent Williams will be 37 next year… Floyd 33, Kittle 32, McCaffery 29, Deebo 29… Big contracts and aging players… not a good combination.

Their window is probably closed with this core of “star players”.

I don't know about Florio's speculation regarding Shanahan but I think the Chicago Bears represent a great opportunity for a head coach. Think there is a ton of talent already there.

Think the GM (Ryan Poles) is very good, and will be retained. The Bears will have three picks in the top-40 and are currently projected to have more than $80M of cap space, with few significant free agents of their own.

Not to mention they're starting to realize Purdy is not the elite guy they thought he was. And he's got a big payday coming. Either pay him or be one of the teams in dreaded quarterback purgatory.

Purdy is a good, but not great QB. I believe the hype that he’s a top QB in the league and him also being a Niner causes a bit of animosity on the subject. It’s similar to the Geno hype. I’d take Geno over Purdy and Geno’s no top five QB.
I'd take Jimmy G over Purdy. Both have taken the Niners to and lost a Super Bowl. Jimmy would be a lot cheaper now...

49ers are in the same boat the Cowboys are. Dak Prescott is not elite and will likely never win a Superbowl for them. But they pay him elite money because they know they can do worse if they don't.

The 49ers had a much better roster and Purdy was good with it, but not good enough to win it all. Now that the roster is no longer stacked, he can't carry them. But they have to pay him like he can. Otherwise they could do worse.

We were in the same boat with Goff. A good quarterback in a good system with a good surrounding cast. But not good enough to carry a team when things aren't perfect. And we paid him top dollar at the time. Fortunately we ended up with Stafford.

The union is going to argue for Campbell as a precedent was already set by the Ravens this year to suspend a player (Diontae Johnson) for one game for refusing to play. The Whiners want to be petty and get their money back which I understand, however to me, that's also part of the risk for signing a player such as Campbell. Again, wouldn't surprise me if the Campbell and the NFLPA appeals this decision and he gets paid for the last 2 games. If this happens, I'm going to be laughing my ass off even more.

I’m a 69er hater but if I were them I’d pursue the option that hurts Campbell the most. The season is lost so keeping him on roster with suspended pay seems appropriate. Just needed to keep him out of the locker room.

And not letting him get signed by a playoff team like the Lions who could use him

Trust me, I understand the logic but I'm just thinking of how the NFLPA protects the players. Doubt Campbell wants to sit idly and not get paid. By appealing amd winning, there is also the slim chance he'll be picked up by another team after he's cut although I imagine whatever team takes that leap would certainly put a stipulation in his contract about quitting :laugh1:
