I think Thomas should hold out as long as it takes. The whole season if needed. I also think the Saints should stick to their guns and not give in. :sneaky:

Wow, huge deal.
When we play them i hope he's held for little yardage.
Then watch our top 3 get 100+ a piece and Goff a 500 yard game.

Lol wow Saints.

Without Brees Thomas is not worth that money. But they'll find that out soon enough.

This is why all these guys want to play basketball. CJ Mccollum just got 3 years 100 million.

I knew he'd get a deal. Where does Julio land now? 115 Million?

Saints, Michael Thomas agree on 5-year contract extension worth $100 million

Michael Thomas gets his and then some.

The holdout is over for Michael Thomas. The New Orleans Saints wide receiver has been locked up to a 5-year, $100 million contract extension with $61 million in guaranteed money, according to Wednesday morning reports by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “Can’t Guard Mike” is now the receiver’s highest-paid wide receiver in today’s game.

The Ohio State product was missing from the first several sessions of training camp due to the contract holdout, and both Mickey Loomis and Asshole Face remained very optimistic on getting a deal done with Thomas. Thomas was entering the final year of his rookie deal, and had plenty of accolades to boast of regarding his first three seasons in the NFL. He hauled in the most receptions of any player in the game throughout their first three seasons, surpassing the record previously held by Odell Beckham Jr.

The contract details will be interesting to see, as Thomas just turned 26 and will be locked up through the 2024 NFL season. Julio Jones and Amari Cooper have some bargaining chips on their side.

Michael Thomas deal reminds Rams again they made right call with Brandin Cooks
by Dan Parzych

With Michael Thomas becoming the highest-paid receiver in the league from the New Orleans Saints, the Los Angeles Rams were reminded once again they were wise to take care of Brandin Cooks last year.

As exciting as it was to watch the Los Angeles Rams acquire Brandin Cooks from the New England Patriots last offseason, there was some criticism over the team rewarding him with a hefty five-year extension early on.

The fact that Los Angeles was willing to pay a receiver like Cooks who had yet to play a single game a whopping five-year, $81 million extension seemed like a questionable move, but also shows how confident they were in the speedster.

Determining whether this was the right move after only one season is foolish for obvious reasons, but after hauling in 80 passes during the 2018 season for 1,204 yards, and six total touchdowns (one was rushing), Cooks clearly seems like a good fit for the Rams.

Moving forward, Los Angeles has plenty of reasons to be excited over Cooks continuing to make a serious impact on offense now that he has a year of playing experience with the team under his belt.

And while there are still some questions over whether the Rams jumped the gun on a deal for Cooks, at least they avoided the wideout potentially asking for even more money down the road after seeing the latest deal by Michael Thomas.

For most of the offseason, one of the biggest topics of discussion surrounding the New Orleans Saints was whether the team would give in, and make Thomas the highest-paid receiver in the league.

On Wednesday, the Saints made NFL history by rewarding Thomas with a hefty five-year extension worth $100 million to make sure the wideout remains happy for the long run.

The #Saints & star WR Michael Thomas have reached a blockbuster, 5 yr $100M extension. This contract makes Thomas the highest paid WR in NFL History. He’s also the first non-QB offensive player to sign a $100M contract. Agents @DavidMulugheta & Andrew Kessler negotiated the deal.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) July 31, 2019

First off, let the record show that Thomas is on a completely different level than Cooks since the 321 catches over the last three seasons alone make a strong enough case for him to be considered a top-five receiver in the league.

Still, it’s quite common in the NFL to see players use situations like this as leverage to earn new deals, and while there’s no telling if Cooks would have been one of those players, at least this won’t even be an issue for the Rams.

Since other receivers across the league will most likely use Thomas’ deal to help negotiate their next contract, at least Cooks and the Rams can focus on the most important task at the moment, which is earning another trip to the Super Bowl.

If last year is any indication of what 2019 could have in store for Cooks, Los Angeles should see another strong season from their speedy wideout to help the offense continue to be one of the best in the league.

Brees needs to retire. Hopefully this is the year they find out

I think it will be. In fact I think they're gonna "find out" when the Rams wipe the Coliseum grass with Drew Brees. After that Rams beatdown they will probably start to work Teddy Bridgewater in there more.

Gotta love it. The more they pay him the less they have for others. Drew Brees re-did his deal last year, voiding his final year (2020) for more money now. Drew's cap hit is $22.7M this year then he's done. At 40 I think this is his last year. That's what Bridgewater's been waiting for. Teddy is a decent player but he's no Brees. IMO it's all or nothing for the Aints this year. That's why they were in such a frenzy last year and why they are whining so loud this year. Next year they will be Just Another Team and they know it.

Even Bridgewater is on a one year deal. Behind him is Taysom Hill an UDFA who is like another Brees, in stature and build but that's where it ends. He's got a worrisome injury history. I guess they will pay a ransom for Bridgewater next year. I was worried they would trade for Rosen.

Well its time to bury them this year and end the whining.

Giving ANY player this kind of money takes away from the team. They need to get a system worked out

While he comes off as a major tool and an unlikable whiner (obviously haven't met the guy), I do think Thomas is in the top tier of WRs with Antonio Brown, Julio, Hopkins, OBJ (might be forgetting someone).

I wouldn't love my team spending that money on any of the above guys. WR has a pretty big shelf of starter-quality guys. Look at the Rams, look at the Patriots, Colts, Chargers, Eagles. You don't need superstar wide receivers to have a great passing game. I suppose when you don't have as many good starters, you're more willing to spend on one standout option, but I think it's a risky approach and doesn't correlate to much success.

And in the case of the Saints, I love that, because I hate that team more than any other.
