It’s pretty obvious that he was hurt down the stretch. He wasn’t the same player late in the year and McVay was limiting his use.

Plus we already heard that his knee was swelling up.

He looked very tentative running the ball towards the end of the season.

There's no way he was running on a torn ACL so we know it wasn't that.

Probably something relatively minor, (easy for me to say) that can be fixed by Camp.

I listened to CJ and didn't come away with anything different than we already know/suspect.

Said on Skips show that he was more hurt than he or the Rams thought.
What do you think.....
First thing I have heard about someone from the Rams saying that.

hmm. Maybe not.

CJs a good dude. I hope this doesn't cause any problems for him with the team.

I would think the Rams will plan in this offseason to keep Gurley fresh @ all times this upcoming season.

McVay was very reluctant to use our RB depth this past season. Yes, it's very hard to take your best offensive threat off the field. In some defense of our HC McVay,.... top back up RB Malcolm Brown was basically gone from the offense after wk 11 & IR'd. Justin Davis replaced Brown as Gurley main back up had one carry for 19 yards & pulled up injured & gimpy & never saw another carry. His second season where he could not remain healthy(n). Rookie John Kelly never saw the field until wk15 but he did get 27 carries but a poor per attempt 2.75 yds.:(

Watched the interview and didn't have that takeaway at all.
Everybody knew he was hurt - that's all he said.

Yep, in the interview he said he was hurt when he got there, and it was probably worse than they thought, but then said he was fine during the Pats game.

So CJ says “he was more hurt than we thought”, but Wyche says “there was no specific injury.”

Wyche says there was enough inflammation and swelling that he had to sit out two games... but there was no “real injury.”

Finally Wyche offers this precise medical diagnosis: “it was a wear and tear problem.” Gee thanks. That’s like going to an auto mechanic, and all he says is, “Your car is running kinda rough.”

Sounds like we are NEVER going to hear anything specific, we’re always going to get vague non-answers.

It’s frustrating that we might never get a specific answer, but like everyone else, I hope Gurley recovers fully and is back to himself in 2019.

The Wyche appearances really seemed to be the team trotting out a guy as damage control to tamp down the flames.

Farr, you know I like and respect you, but if nothing has come out by now, it's not a fully torn ACL. Gurley would have had surgery already. Now, it's certainly possible he had a partially torn ligament in his knee.

Ditto.

Just take the 'L' on this one Farr, and move on.

Thanks, guys. Actually, I don't like being placed in a situation of needing to be proven right. My ego just doesn't need that. An 'L' for all of us would be if Gurley had a career threatening injury.

If it turns out the information I received was wrong, and his ACL is fine, (y)

I've moved on.

I love this forum because its informative and focused on a topic I love - the Rams. I think we could all agree that Gurley was nursing a leg injury (or 2) throughout the season and it just wouldn't go away. That sucked for him, that sucked for the Rams and that sucked for us Rams fans. We'll never know what his impact would have been if he were close to 100% in those last 2 games - but one could speculate it would have put the Rams over the top. The important thing is for him to get better and for the Rams to learn how to throttle down on his usage so that he has a chance to be close to 100% at the end of the season. For that reason - I believe the Rams will seriously entertain a decent contract offer for CJ Anderson - knowing he will not just be a backup but part of a powerful 1-2 punch.

NFL wants more info from Rams on Gurley's injury
By Jeff Reynolds, Field Level Media
https://ca.reuters.com/article/spor...=401&feedType=RSS&feedName=sportsNews&rpc=401
A revelation from running back C.J. Anderson that Todd Gurley’s knee injury was more severe than the Los Angeles Rams thought — and disclosed — triggered an NFL request for more information from the team, a league source told Field Level Media.

Gurley was not on the Super Bowl injury report. He largely gave way to Anderson in the postseason, but the company line from the Rams centered around head coach Sean McVay taking the blame for not getting Gurley more involved.

Gurley missed the final two regular-season games, dealing with an undisclosed knee problem, after rushing for 1,251 yards and 17 touchdowns in 14 games. He also caught 59 passes for 580 yards and four scores.

After the Rams went through their final on-field workout Friday, two days before the Super Bowl, McVay labeled Gurley “100 percent.”

A league source told FLM that the NFL office routinely seeks more information from teams in situations such as Gurley’s. Rams spokesman Artis Tyman did not confirm or deny a request for information was made regarding Gurley’s injury since Anderson’s comments and directed queries on the matter to the NFL.

In 2017, the NFL ruled the Seattle Seahawks misinterpreted the rules when failing to disclose cornerback Richard Sherman’s sprained knee. Seattle was let off with only a warning, but reportedly faced potential discipline including a fine or loss of a draft pick.

Gurley returned for the playoffs — with 16 carries for 115 yards against Dallas — but had only a combined 14 carries and two receptions in the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl LIII.

But Gurley rushed just 10 times for 35 yards in the 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots.

“The injury was a little bit more than what everybody in the building thought, including himself,” Anderson said Tuesday on FS1’s “Undisputed.”

Anderson said he would call the injury a sprained knee. Gurley suffered a torn left ACL in 2014.

“Obviously, it’s the same knee injury he’s had before in his career,” Anderson said.

“I had surgery on my meniscus and once you have a knee, you always have a knee. So it aggravates, and if he was getting a lot of touches earlier in the year — obviously him being one of the best running backs, that probably was the case.”

Anderson, signed with the Rams for the final two regular-season games, had 46 postseason carries. Gurley had 30.

Gurley led the NFL with 21 touchdowns and 17 rushing scores during the regular season. He notched his third 1,000-yard rushing season in four years since the Rams took him with the 10th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

NFL Team's Most Overpaid Player

Brad GagnonMarch 9, 2019

Murray in accounting, your uncle Charlie and the guy who pumped your gas on Wednesday will all tell you in a cantankerous voice that "they're all overpaid!"And compared to teachers and nurses and rescue workers, that's probably true. But some NFL players are more overpaid than others. Looking generally at average annual salaries courtesy of Spotrac, we compared players with notably high paychecks to their recent production—focusing primarily on 2018—as well as to their peers.Taking that as well as sheer stats, effectiveness, roles and durability into account, here's a look at the most overpaid player on every NFL roster as free agency looms.

Yes, we're telling you that a two-time first-team All-Pro who is one season removed from winning Offensive Player of the Year and coming off a campaign in which he led the NFL with 21 touchdowns is overpaid.

How? It's simple. Todd Gurley plays one of the least valuable positions in the sport. And when he was injured late last season, Gurley's stand-in provided proof that he's basically replaceable.

Gurley, who last offseason signed a record-breakingfour-year contract worth $57.5 million (including $45 million guaranteed) to remain with the Los Angeles Rams through 2023, was an MVP contender when he went down with a knee injury in December. But that's when Los Angeles signed journeyman C.J. Anderson off the street, and Anderson went over 120 yards in three straight games, including a playoff victory over the Cowboys.

The Rams offense didn't miss a beat during that stretch, averaging 36.3 points per game.

As Gurley's health improved, he struggled to regain a full-time role and didn't look as effective on the field. And that's also a concern because now a report has emerged from Jeff Howe of The Athletic that the 24-year-old has arthritis in that injured knee.

The Rams might already regret making him the highest-paid back in the league.
