Aw cripes. Why all this cloak-and-dagger crap about Gurley’s knee? The season is OVER now. Why can’t the Rams organization just give a straightforward answer to what the injury is?
Reading the tea leaves, based on CJ’s interview....Sounds to me like a PARTIALLY torn ACL. CJ called it a “sprained knee” and “the same injury he had before.” CJ also called it “more serious than everyone thought.” All that to me sounds like partially torn ACL.
A partially torn ACL is very unpredictable. Gurley could be fine for the rest of his career... or he could fully tear it again.
I’m not sure what the Rams have to gain by being so secretive at this point. Get the best diagnosis you can, make your best judgment as to how to handle it (rehab or surgery?), then tell the public. What purpose is being served by continuing to be secretive?
The Rams don't want to get fined. Although, that cat might be out of the bag now. But you're overreacting imo. Sprained ACLs/MCLs happen every year. It doesn't seem to lead to a full tear often.
A sprain is a tear. It's just a nicer word for it.Aw cripes. Why all this cloak-and-dagger crap about Gurley’s knee? The season is OVER now. Why can’t the Rams organization just give a straightforward answer to what the injury is?

Disagree. Sprained MCL’s are very common, happen all the time, and can heal on their own in a couple weeks. In some cases, even a complete MCL rupture can heal on its own (without surgery) in as little as four weeks.
By contrast, a sprained ACL is a different story... they are rare, and they do not heal well on their own. And of course, a full tear cannot be repaired without surgery, and the recovery is approx. 9 months. A Grade 2 ACL tear represents significant risk for a full tear in the future.
And yes, of course a “sprain” is just a synonym for “tear.” The sprain is either Grade 1 (minor tear) or Grade 2 (moderate tear) or Grade 3 (complete tear).
But yeah, maybe you’re right in that the Rams are being secretive so they can avoid a fine.
Nope.A sprain is a stretch of a tendon, NOT a tear or strain.
We haven't heard anything indicating that it's a sprained ACL. As you said, sprained MCLs are more common, and that's what a few of us speculated a few weeks ago based on Gurley playing. Again, if this thing were incredibly serious, the Rams wouldn't have played Gurley and risked further injury.
Yeah, that’s what’s frustrating, the only time we’ve ever heard the word “sprain” is just now when CJ “kinda sorta” confirmed it but then said he still “didn’t really know.” But as you say, he didn’t say which of the four knee ligaments it was— ACL, MCL, PCL, or LCL.
We have one of the best training staffs in the NFL. Let's trust them on this one.
