That’s no excuse.
Sure it is.

The Rams decided to end Reynolds time with the club.

He was not a free agent that chose the Niners over the Rams. The Rams did not want him.

We have no way of knowing if he had better offers (or any offers) from teams other than the 49ers.

We talk all the time here about veteran players that are free agents, signing with teams that may give them a chance to win a Super Bowl. We hope some of them choose the Rams for that reason.

That’s all Jack Reynolds did; and he got two rings.

Your anger should be directed at the Rams’ decision makers at that time … John Shaw, Jay Zygmunt and Ray Malavasi.

But dude, he went to the Niners, a sin that can never be forgiven.

As much as I like to blame Jay Zygmunt, he did not join the Rams until 1982, so he had nothing to do with the release of Hacksaw. Reynolds was released after the 1980 season and the following two years the Rams tumbled, which led to the firing of Ray Malavasi after the 1982 season.

Thanks for correction on Zygmunt. I’m still a little loopy from @Loyal knocking me down in that fight earlier today.

I have no malice towards Jack Reynolds.

Times have changed. Player movement is more prevalent and unashamed.

And…no. I will choose to hate “the man whose name I do not speak.” I can do that because it was my heart he broke.

That’s right. If anything, anger should be directed at the players today who Choose to leave teams via free agency when they could sometimes re-sign for comparable money.

Jack Reynolds had no choice but to leave the Rams; and, we have no way of knowing if he had opportunities comparable to what the Niners offered him.

I also see, respect and enjoy your humor reflected in Blue Font. However, if you awaken tomorrow, and your vehicle has been cut-in-half with a Hacksaw, you have only yourself to blame.

It was the Rams who made the mistake of releasing Hacksaw.
I clearly remember after that, opposing teams running right up our gut after that and wishing we had him back.
People forget, Bill Freaking Walsh was almost our coach. Said it was the best organization in the NFL. And he really, really liked our roster so when he had a chance to get one and had a need, he did. I never blamed Hacksaw. Hey even Wendle Tyler went there.
It easily could have been us dominating the 80s but we had that Hag dumb C%#& running the show.

I have to go with Rich Saul. Late-round pick who backed-up veteran Ken Iman for five full seasons.

Stepped in at center in 1975, and started 105 out of a possible 106 games over the next seven seasons ... making the Pro Bowl six straight years through 1981 when he retired.

This must be the 1975 offensive line.
Left-to-right ... John Williams, Joe Scibelli, Saul (nice perm Rich), Tom Mack and Charlie Cowan.
Sadly, only Mack is still with us.
