Huge difference though. Not to mention Stafford was not going to threaten anything if they didn't trade him. Both sides showed some class in this instance.
In Detroit, the Lions probably couldn't keep from admitting they've sucked and Stafford was one the few things good about them. Hell, they won 1 postseason game when Barry was dazzling defenses for 10 years. Okay Matt, you're not going to win anything here so we'll accommodate you and trade you to a contender.
In Green Bay, the Packers probably realized they haven't gotten enough for their money with Rodgers and wanted to see him earn another Championship for them. He was to Green Bay what Stafford was to Detroit but the difference is, Detroit didn't do enough for Stafford.
The Lions have won 4 Championships (1935, 1952-53, 1957) when the season was 12 games or less. Since then, they've won 11 games 3 times and have just 1 postseason win in 12 tries. If we're being honest we would probably agree they are a "loser franchise" that even a phenominal RB like Barry Sanders (or Billy Sims), a phenominal WR like Calvin Johnson or an excellent QB like Matt Stafford couldn't change. They could never commit enough to put a great product on the field.
On the other hand Green Bay is a "winning franchise". Title town. They won 5 championships in the 60's, including the first 2 Superbowls, and have made the postseason 21 times in the last 28 years. Clearly they have done enough to put a great product on the field. But many want us to believe they haven't done enough for Rodgers when in reality, he hasn't done enough for the Packers. A "lucky" team might win 12 or 13 games once but the Packers have done it 9 times in the last 25 years.
So they didn't want to trade Rodgers away and insure those days are in the past. And who can really blame them? If Goff had won in 2018, got back in 2019 and lost the CCG in 2020, would we want the Rams to trade him away....for an older guy with no postseason wins? Those who can honestly say they would, sign on.
