Well Blythe was and is dog water. Whitworth missed 8? games last year if I remember correctly. Hav missed 7? The year before
Blythe was dogshit. Period.

But it is also correct that this line is benefitting greatly from a QB who is killing the pre-snap reads and getting the ball out appropriately. Stafford also strikes fear in the defenses with his aggressiveness down field. That stuff affects the rest, in this game shit is all interrelated.

Lets not forget about the blocking from the rest of the group but yes the OLine has been a very pleasant upgrade.

That is the pass block of the year. I just keep watching that over and over. And the one he had up the middle earlier in the game was almost as good.

Don’t want to start a new thread, just think it’s important to point out the Rams approach, big picture, works.

Yeah.. it’s not perfect every year, but they develop players well and understand where and why and how much money and draft capital to invest.

They are paying less for Corbett, Allen and Edwards… combined.. than Roger Saffold is making this year.

Something to remember when we see who they do and don’t pay.

Aaron Rodgers went from 3 straight seasons of 97 QB rating to a 121.5 in 2020.

Tom Brady went from 6 straight 92 QB rating seasons to 117. He then had 5 sub 100 an rating seasons after that including a 88 and 87 rating season.

A QB’s success and a teams success is 100% dependent on Oline and surrounding talent.

It’s early, but if our Oline stays healthy we are going to be the team to beat in the NFC.

Stafford is playing great, no doubt impacting the line through his play reads and scheme calls, but last time I looked he's not blocking anyone.
I'm not sure you get what i'm saying. edit: and that's my fault for not explaining.

Everything is moving faster with #9. Have you noticed how when the Rams get to the LOS that there's usually still a good 10-12 sec left on the play clock vs before? I've been watching this. Stafford has time to check out or adjust protections etc.

Next, we all know Stafford is running primarily out of the gun vs a ton of behind the Center play action and roll outs like before. It's quicker into the play.

Next is the reads as you mentioned. Quicker. Then the release. Much faster...and finally the arm. The ball gets to the targets much quicker than before. All of these milliseconds add up in a game that moves fast for blockers.

The offense was plodding through Goff vs now...from playcall to the reads to the looping throw. Watch a Goff series from anywhere the last 2 years. With the exception of Blythe stinking it up occasionally the blocking was fine. Get the damn ball out. Guys are open. We've all seen it.

No way I let Corbett go for anything. He's far too valuable to the offensive line, able to play all three interior spots and play them well. I'd go so far as to let Noteboom and Allen go. No offense meant to Allen, but Corbett has been better for longer.
I see no evidence that Corbert can play center, in fact I think there is plenty to show just the opposite.

The Rams thought that Corbett could play center very well. They elevated Allen so that Corbett could succeed Evans, although I'm sure there was a lot of faith on their part with Allen. But Evans being awful was probably what signaled that they needed to move Corbett back to right guard.

I think he could play center very well. Obviously I want to sign both Corbett and Allen, but if we can't do that, I'd prefer that we sign Corbett, preferably before he gets expensive.

No idea what AW will do that will remain an unanswered question till the last game has been played. Rams stand a very good chance to want to tie up Noteboom for a 4 yr deal. Getting Noteboom/Allen/Corbett/Shelton to resign is going to cost some serious cap funds.

Snead might be able to swing 3 of the 4 but not all four. Corbett will require the largest amount of what Snead does not have.

If AW wants to play one more season I am sure that could be arranged but he would might need to move to his original first 3 NFL seasons post @ LG with Noteboom being LT. LG Edwards can flip back to RG to offset the loss of Corbett. You keep four of the 2021 starters adding in Noteboom. Swing OT Jackson/ Swing OG Anchrum/ OC Shelton/ OT Pircher/ OG Brewer would be the reserves. If AW does retire then good chance two new starters would be needed @ LT & RG.

Carberry needs to be working on whoever that Swing OG is, so that the new OG is ready to perform.
I think AW will sign a new 3-year extension, play till he's 42 years old

I believe the "Corbett playing center" is not ever going to happen. :yawn:Corbett 3 game performance @ RG this with Allen next to him has sealed the deal on any center thought. The interior OL is giving Stafford the needed time to step up & climb the pocket to make almost all throws.

No way after what we saw from Bobby Evans in the preseason is McVay/Carberry going to insert Evans into that RG post. Sorta the opposite from what we saw in Brian Allen since the regular season began, seeing is believing.

Carberry appears to have placed a priority on pass blocking in the minds of the two ex-starting College OT's that have paid off big dividends in the first 3 games. I can see this to continue as the season moves on.

I'm predicting ageless wonder Whitworth will extend his career 3 years and sign a new contract extension.
No way.
People on this board had Whitworth retiring 3 years ago.

He can't still be playing left tackle for the Rams.

If Allen gets banged up for a few snaps or misses a couple games I'll bet you anything they slide Corbett over and bring Evans in at Right Guard.

I'm cool with sliding Corbett to center, but I'd trust Anchrum far more than Evans. Not great options, I know, but damned if we're going to get Stafford sacked a million times by putting Evans in to block.

Hopefully something we won't have to see. As much as I'd like to see what Corbett can do as a Center, I don't want to disrupt our entire OL to get that done. It's been like 5/6 weeks since Evans was evicted from the starting RG role, and the same amount of time that Corbett has been back at RG, ... if Carberry didn't think Shelton was good for the back-up job, we'd have probably opted for another Center during the pre-season.
If Allen goes down, I believe Shelton would get first crack at it. It really comes down to who Carberry trusts the most, whether it be Shelton at Center or Anchrum/Evans at RG.

Corbett & Allen are proven starters who will command a decent payday, ... Noteboom hasn't really done much of anything yet, so he shouldn't be overly costly, and is more likely to receive a shorter contract. With Whitworth's retirement and a Havenstein extension, we could probably sign all 3 guys (Corbett, Allen, Noteboom) to acceptable contracts for not that much more money than the current starting OL is earning now. jmo.
By not drafting Olinemen the Rams are saying they plan to resign Corbett and Allen.

When the Rams decided not to draft Olinemen they pretty much showed they plan on signing both. Why take a chance of ruining what they’ve got with Stafford, especially when they have invested so much in Stafford.
