if it was considered a grade 3 concussion the league would not even allow Cooks to play tomorrow. Which means now I'm utterly confused (as usual) because if the league considers it a minor concussion, what standard does the league to by. As a person who faints a lot, which is why I'm currently disabled, but I've had several concussions and only two of them were called brad 3 and I was not knocked out but had symptoms for almost a month one time. But I'm the other hand I've knocked myself out but every time it was considered minor, except the time when I came I found I was temporarily paralysed. So now you understand why I'm confused. Oh well, life goes on.
The league has a set up guidelines that are followed after a player has a concussion. It has nothing to do with what level or stage the concussion was, it has to do with how the player feels and if he's having symptoms that would indicate he's still not 100%. All I said was because he was knocked out, he had a grade 3 which is considered the worst of the 3 grades. Its possible that Cooks just recovered extremely fast or the damage/trauma wasn't severe. In either case its starting to get to a point where he may need to start going down to avoid big hits for his own well being.

There are three grades of concussion.

  • In Grade One, a concussion causes temporary disorientation. The person remains conscious and the symptoms are gone within 15 minutes.
  • With a Grade Two concussion, the symptoms are the same as a Grade One concussion, only the symptoms last about a half-hour.
  • With a Grade Three concussion, sometimes referred to as a classic concussion, there is a loss of consciousness—no matter how brief.

What you conviently leave out is what a concussion is. A concussion is a bruise on the brain. And as I stated you can be knocked out and not suffer any brain brusing. All you have done is explain to me what grades exist after a concussion is ruled to be the issue.

I believe both Kupp and Cooks where put into concussion protocol because they, the medical staff, felt they both suffered concussions. I said because Cooks was unconscious his concussion is a grade 3. Do what you want with that info. If you believe being knocked out is minor being a fight or football game, you go ahead and believe that.

Well, the CDC disagrees with your definition.

https://www.cdc.gov/headsup/basics/concussion_whatis.html

WebMD includes brain bruising in a list of things that "may" occur.

https://www.webmd.com/brain/concussion-traumatic-brain-injury-symptoms-causes-treatments

The Mayo clinic didn't specifically address bruising at all, but says the impact that caused the confusion may cause brain bleeding (which isn't the same as bruising, but it's close).

https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/concussion/symptoms-causes/syc-20355594

The Concussion Legacy Foundation also upholds the stretching, cell damage, metabolic changes definition like the CDC.

So it looks like a concussion is not specifically a bruise on the brain. A loss of consciousness caused by a blow to the head would fit the definition of a concussion by every source I mentioned above.
