First, the PFF grades :
Donald - Graded #1 overall out of all the 122 graded DT's, scoring a grade of 99.7.
Suh - Graded #5 overall out of all the 122 graded DT's with a score of 91.0.
Donald scored 87.5 in run defense and 99.9 in pass rushing.
Suh scores 92.4 in run defense and 83.9 as a pass rusher.
Even if you don't love PFF, this partially explains where these players tend to excel.
Brockers graded #31 overall last season with a 83.1 score. His run blocking was scored at 88.0 and his pass rush score dropped to 50.8 for his first year outside.
Westbrooks is the likely interior spot which Suh will now command, and he graded #71 overall while scoring 70.4 in run defense and 73.8 in pass rush.
Lets not even discuss how poor both Tyrunn Walker and Tanzil Smart graded overall and in run defense.
Unless someone new is added, I suspect Easley will be the rotation for Brockers & Westbrooks will be behind Donald and perhaps even Suh, although I won't be surprised if Omarius Bryant off our practice squad or a later round rotational NT type is also brought in.
What bothers me about the author of this article is not only the qualitative improvements of our DL, but not expecting or adding that our LB'er corp is also apt to improve a good deal in the coming months, especially so with run defense. jmo.

No, what it means is that Suh is on a one year prove it type deal both on and off the field. Then after that, if he does well the rams can choose to sign him to maybe a two year contract since they'll have a little more wiggle room under the cap. If the rams decide not to sign him then the following year they'll receive a compensatory pick because of not signing him. So either way it's a win win scenario.
It's like a pro-bowl, all star team.. on defense all the sudden..

Wade appears to be loaded with 3 tech types DT's currently. Donald- Easley & Smart ...all were meant to play this post. The 5 tech DE post is Brockers- Fox & Westbrooks. The massive Hole was @ NT & now will be filled by Suh for this one season. The only other NT is the 6-3 315 plus pound Omarius Bryant.
I am sure that on the times Suh will need relief that top reserves of Easley & Westbrooks can adequately relieve him. I would think that Snead will draft a NT on the 3rd day of this upcoming draft for when Suh departs when this season ends.
One real bad element that has unfolded here for the DL next year @ this time....Suh, Donald, Easley, Westbrooks & Fox all will enter free agency at the same time. Leaving just Brockers, Bryant & Smart signed.
Yeah i don't get it either. Analysis paralysis. Rams got better today. The D wasn't good enough last year.
I think this could lead to other free agents wanting to be on this team and be part of this season. We still need LBs. That 14 million could be less if you factor in discounts other players may give to be a part of this.
Interesting. Stan Kroenke may have played a bigger part in Suh's decision than any of us might have been thinking. He apparently has a good relationship with Warren Buffet and Stan was also a big hit with him at the dinner at Nobu.

Baffles me as well. Are the Rams going all in to win it? Sure. As would any team set up like ours. You ALWAYS have the chase the chance.
Does that also mean the Rams are toast for many years if they DON'T win it next year? That's laughable. The core of this team still consists of players like Goff, Gurley, Wodds, Kupp, Brock, Donald, (hopefully for many years) Joyner. There is a LOT of young elite talent there. Draft well, be smart, and this team will contend for 5+ years AT LEAST. Suh or no Suh.
