Far as I'm concerned 9 can play as long as he's still got it. I figure improving the options on the depth chart is intended to reverse the way Stafford has had them over the barrel in contract discussions. But whether that's true or not it seems to me this offense is stacked with the things Stafford prefers, which is big framed receiving options with great hands. So the Rams I think are trying to build it around him still.

Adams and Nacua over six feet outside the hash. Two young pass threat TEs in Ferg and Klare who offer large frames and hands. I don't know how much Adams has left, and we need a TE to emerge as a slot weapon, but I like our chances. Because Adams smells that ring so we're gonna get his all until he gets it. And Klare is a nice reminder to Ferg that nothing is given at this level, he is good enough as a rook to take that job so that's a real competition this year in camp.

They announced prior to the draft that he was close to an extension. Since the draft it has been crickets. Would just like to see this put to bed soon.

Whether he is signed or not, those talks were going on publicly and have not been closed.
Probably because they already have things worked out and will announce it after June 1 when they can defer some other costs.
Either way, its a non starter, right now they are likely focused on signing the draft picks

No terms (?) but whatever it is this feels a mutual bridge strategy… yeah?

I believe Stafford is in on all of this. And… if so; 2026 is likely his final season. UNLESS he goes all MVP again and wants another swing.

From Ben Levine's column:

Today’s agreement all but assures that Simpson will now warm the bench for at least his first two professional seasons.

Back to me now. This is exactly what I was hoping for in Drafting Simpson. The "down the road" play.

Even if its 3 years he sits, FINE.

Though my personal prediction is Simpson starts 2028 Season.

No, it doesn’t assure that.

Seems like with this Contract, we have 2 more years of Stafford at the most?

And if Staff retires after this year we can afford to pay his 2nd year dead-cap hit while having a QB on a Rookie Contract?

Couldn't really figure out why Sean kept saying "Matthew's earned that right," ( going year-to-year). Now i think it refers to a "parting gift," basically a free year of pay, no payback of bonuses. The Aaron Donald treatment.

Yeah, doesnt guarantee anything.

Stafford could get hurt and retire.

He could win the SB and retire.

He could just get tired of it after this year after a failed deep run and retire.

Anything can happen.
Or what if the Rams go 20-0, Stafford throws 60 TDs (including playoffs), and wins 2 more MVPs (reg season and SB) and wants a serious pay raise for next year? You're right, a lot can happen before next year when we haven't even gotten to camp this year.
