From what The Saints are saying. They’re saying the same thing.
The 2 minute drive was encouraging, but The Rams have kept things tight.I haven’t seen enough to know.
-What I’ll say about the scrimmage is exactly what The Rams need as a group. The players learned & Mcvay got excellent tape.

BTW-Mcvay AIN’T Dummy like there exQB back in the day.
Ryans isn’t a dummy either. He’s the an ex DC for the 9ers who has seen jimmy g up close enough to see what I see. A lot of INTs and near misses have come on that 12-15 yard out pass area. The texans have two very good CBs. I expect ryans to have those guys sitting on that pass. Heck, ramsey was sitting on that same route when he dropped a possible pick 6 in the NFCCG. There’s a reason why jimmy g lead the league in INTs before the raiders benched him—and that was despite being suspended at the beginning of the season.

Game 1 vs the texans just got dicey (if Stafford can’t go).

My skepticism of jimmy g aside, the Rams CAN WIN with g-string, and it will look familiar.
A dominate top 5 defense and an equally strong run game. Thats how the 9ers won with him, and that’s what the Rams will have to do.

You must see more in him than I do and that's okay.
People keep missing what Im saying.
I don't want Cousins.
The concept of him being traded makes some sense because of his past with McVay.
That's it, nothing more.
I think he is well past his prime and I would want no part of that salary which has guaranteed money next year as well.
But, saying Bennett has done anything more than look good in one preseason game is an exaggeration. He has proven nothing.

That's if Stafford is out ALL YEAR, correct?

If Stafford is out 4 weeks JG is capable of keeping this teams Super Bowl aspirations intact, no?

Otherwise replace Stafford’s name in your post with Mahomes, Allen, Lamar, Burrow and THOSE teams will finish 8-9. Kind of a generic NFL observation, starting QB out for year = team fucked.
Yep.
I was being a bit "worst case scenario"....looking at our first four games Jimmy G is certainly capable of at least a 2-2 start, could well be better.

Cousins is 36 and when he was young barely had enough arm for this level. Those types of QBs are different fundamentally from the QBs who have the power arm. As the body ages and Stafford loses a bit of arm strength he can still put that ball out there on a rope when he needs to, or hit that deep out. But Cousins that floor could drop out quick. Might have already done so.

Garoppolo is 33 by the way. Also I agree that if Stafford is out we're no longer playing for a ring. This team is constructed to require 9.
Seeing Stafford live last year, he makes some throws that are just absurd.
Watching Cousins last year he certainly looked washed.
Had an injury that affected him, but, I don't want him.

I think people disagree with the concept of the trade making sense, in any fashion.
I personally think the McVay connection is weak, it was almost 10 years ago when they were last together. There were conceivable times he could have brought him to LA in place of Goff, and nothing came of it.
In any event, as weak as I think the connection is, that's the most compelling aspect because everything else makes zero sense

If we have a top 5 scoring defense then yes we'll win with Jimmy. Problem is McVay has a hard time sticking to the run. Whereas Ratboy focuses everything around that run game, even has a goal of 30 rushes in each game.

On the positive side of things McVay teams do have a trend of being at their best for the playoffs, which is a great reflection on him and his staff. So if we can survive and get into the playoffs then get Stafford and Jackson on the field together for the run things will look a lot better.

To have a quick start with let's say a 3-1 or undefeated record, we probably need sub-19 points type defense. So the defense needs to start fast. Otherwise we'll be digging out from a slow start. And I am very confident about our defensive front. Secondary is just a bit iffy at the corners, so any game where the rush isn't getting home will be an adventure.

I fully expect to beat the Texans and I'm also of the opinion that Garoppolo won't lose games for us.

Throwing for 334 yards against a mostly playing Seattle team, while playing WITH all backups, combined with the way Sean gushes about him tells me this guy can still play and do what he do does best, win Football games.

i'm pretty confident in jimmy g...

if he has to play, we will win games...

SB contender? i really can't say yes or no at this point...

odds favor stafford, but we don't suddenly become losers without matt...

the stench of the 9'rs will be completely exorcized with multiple playoff victories, even if we come up short in the SB...

however there will be the "i told you so" crowd if that becomes the case...

i'll be like most here, and be rooting my ASS off, either way...

i can't believe i've come around to saying this, but...

go jimmy g

Personally, I think we have an extremely talented team, especially on defense, who can make it to the playoffs without Stafford. Getting a ring? Probably not.

He is non clutch, but, thats ok.
He played well in that Seattle game, but, when they needed a play at the end to win it he missed an easy throw. Classic Jimmy.
But, he certainly can win games as long as he doesn't have to carry the majority of the load.

He very well could have had 3 ints in the last game. That was his problem last year. He needs to get through a game without throwing a int.

We shall see today.
A couple of starters are not playing for the Chargers D, but, the majority of their starters on both sides are playing to start.
The first couple of possessions should be a good opportunity for Bennett.

Use a one two punch with Jimmy G and Bennett. On obvious blitz downs put bennett in the game. But I have a feeling Stafford will be fine.

If Stafford sat out until after the bye, his first game would be week 9. If that was the plan, would it be the end of the world if we didn't make any moves?

I can see JG going 4-3 over the first half of the schedule with likely wins against Titans, Colts and Jags (plus one upset win against Texans, Eagles, Niners or Ravens).

That would put us ahead of our week 8 record for each of the last two seasons (where we made the playoffs). Even 3-4 would put us on the same pace as last season (where we won the division).

Stand pat. If MS can play half a season we have a shot. If he can't play, we won't have a shot and we might as well protect the salary cap and enjoy the draft capital upside.

Glass half full.
