18 teams went home after week 17.

13 teams ended on the sour note of a playoff loss.

Only 1 team is truly satisfied. The rest are wondering what went wrong, and trying to decide if they are on the right path, or need to make a drastic change.

The Rams, though, jump started their offseason by making a huge move to bring in Matthew Stafford. The impact is palpable. There’s a level of excitement and optimism that is rare for a team only weeks removed from a playoff loss. The talking heads are talking, Vegas is on board, and there are rumors of the Rams being a desired destination for players looking for a title shot.

Is all this fair to Jared Goff? No.
Does Stafford deserve the praise he’s receiving? Time will tell.

But, right now...in February...I’m feeling the buzz.

Sure beats a hangover.

True dat.

Made me think of some intriguing “what if’s,” though.

What if Jared had pulled off the huge win in GB? And what if we then lost the NFCCG to the Bucs?

Gotta think McVay would have stuck with Goff for 2021, even if he was supposedly “fed up” with him.

Hard to imagine McVay would have bailed on Goff if they had pulled off the win vs. GB, right?

Right.........?

Regardless of the “what if’s”, I am totally jacked for Stafford and the Rams and their Vegas-3rd-best-chance at a SB win.

Off-season gonna be loooooooooooonggggg

Unless he exploded for a huge game, I don't think it would have changed much.

It sounds like McVay soured on Goff a while ago, I doubt one game would have turned the tides.

Yeah, it feels good...

The off-season lift for Rams fans, and fresh air.

Its not great when the fanbase is split on the starting QB. We get a break from that going forward.

Stafford’s the man.

The problem is that if the Rams win the GB game, they're not in talks with Detroit and by the time we lose to TB (in this scenario), Carolina is already in the final stages of consummating the trade. So, unless Goff absolutely shit the bed in Tampa (a possibility as that Tampa D with Vita Vea back has been playing lights freaking out), it would have taken time to sort out.

And as SF and Indy are realizing... short of giving up the farm for Watson, dealing with consistent, but not great play from Cousins, the only alternative would have been Wentz. And with Wentz, it's out of the frying pan, into the fire...

So, while one game may not have changed McVay's mind, the logistics and timing may have changed things drastically.

Rams continue to pursue excellence. Not settling for just having a playoff caliber team. That’s the theme for this off-season and I’m hopeful.

I also like that this move is seen by most around the league as a team committed to winning, even if they think highly of Goff.

McVay and Snead have created a winning culture such that veterans see this as both a chance to contend and NOT have to sacrifice a ton of salary and/or go that old school coaching crap like in NE.

NE was ONLY a draw because of being able to challenge for a ring. In 2021, what vets wanna go to the Pats now? To what? Get a chance to be underpaid, ground down and still finish under .500 and third in the division?

that's a hard no from me, dawg...

It's pretty crazy...

A team had a turnover prone QB, brought in a better veteran QB and then won the Super Bowl at home.

Hoping history repeats itself next year

Also, as far as narratives go, the idea of getting Whitworth and AD a ring? Yeah, I can see that.

I think home field will be reliant on us having OTAs and a full training camp. I REALLY, REALLY hope they get enough of the vaccines out that they can make this happen.

If we have another off-season like 2020, we're likely gonna start out slow and have to hope we get it clicking for the second half of the season.

That's how it worked with the Bucs, but that's threading a needle inside of a needle...

I must have missed the part where Winston had taken the Bucs to the Superbowl, and dont know where Stafford's hiding all his SB trophies, but hey, it's a good vibe, I'm down

Good news is we have McVay who has led a team to a Super Bowl, unlike Arians prior to this year. And most of our core has some prior Super Bowl experience too.

Our current rookies have more playoff experience than Cooper Kupp. Have a tall glass of that reality.
Not stoking the rumor mill, just feels like Kupp’s time with the team is coming to an end. I hope not, just feels like he may be the means for other improvements...JMO

I’m as excited as I was at the when I saw Martz and the GSOT destroy the 49ers in 1999, for the first time in years. That game was beautiful.

This is the most optimistic I have been to start an offseason since after the GSOT Super Bowl win.

I guess a lot could change depending on how free agency pans out. I think they will get the holes filled and have a very strong team.

I am not energized right now, I am just cautiously optimistic.

Speaking of the Green Bay game I think Goff played well enough to win with a healthy Donald. Really the defense is what let the team down.

Goff had some real bed-crappers this year. The worst was against Miami but both SF games and Seattle probably helped seal his fate. On the flip side one of his best games this season was against Tampa.

I like Stafford but if he fails this could be a career killer for Snead and it may possibly cost McVay his job too.

And our QB may be even more hungry for that SB ring than the guy in Tampa who at this point must just feel like it comes with the territory.
