Screw that. I’m 100 percent serious. The Pats got henky ass calls all that season, well before the Tuck Rule call.

I say without hesitation that it was fixed. NO ONE wanted to say “the Patriots lost” after 9/11.

I do not believe in Conspiracy theories, not even the Grassy Knoll and God knows, I have researched the heck out of that one, but I concur with @Mackeyser and was shocked that MLB did not fix it for the New York Yankees.

Also, shame on the Browns for giving these known cheaters access in the first place...
Wasted season, divisional opponent, and who knows what other incentives?

Million dollar question is - Does the public actually get a glimpse of tapes this time around? Or, are they incriminating enough to put a black eye on last 20 years of the NFL as we know it?

I want to see the footage myself to make a "fair" assessment, I'm betting mysteriously never goes public though...

Well, I did, but I don’t buy all this faux patriotism stuff that takes place before games. I never forget that it’s a league of craven, greedy owners with zero respect for the sport or the players. And,yeah, that means I have to acknowledge and even embrace my hypocrisy as I enjoy football and especially our Rams.

But, absolutely, it was fixed and if you think about it, every Super Bowl since then has fulfilled some narrative and there’s been no blowouts. Hmmm...
Would be interesting to learn if the NFL received an increase in ad revenue from the military after SB36. Enough incentive for the NFL considering the Feds have the deepest pockets to pay for ads.

You ever watch Mission Impossible and what happens to the tape after being played once ?

Think of the NFL as having the same moral compass as that of the CIA.

Vinatieri is really a lizard
Right before he kicks that kick which knocks us out of the Super Bowl you can see him shape shift

So if the Rams changed their name to
The Never Forget 9-11
Would we then go undefeated? I mean with your logic NO ONE would want to say “the Never Forget 9-11 lost” after 9-11

I can't be more clear. Disagree if you like.

I don't think there was a fix in before 9/11 because a) there were blowouts which actually led to commercial refunds as viewership dipped precipitously in the 4th quarter among casual fans or opposing fans not wanting to watch their team get blown out... AND... the Rams won a Super Bowl which would NEVER happen in the days of fixed Super Bowls. I think that'll change in the future with the new stadium, but it wasn't gonna happen post 9/11.

Post 9/11, every single Super Bowl has been contested. But, you say, what about a few years ago when Atlanta went up 28 points? I literally said "uh-oh" and just watched as the Patriots did what they do. I don't recall anyone turning off the TV and the game was among the highest rated of all time.

As for what our team is named, what? That's reductio ad absurdum. It's not an argument, it's just incredulity based on an opinion disguised as an argument.

I'll say that if the team were named the Boston Braves, they wouldn't have even made the playoffs because they wouldn't have had a boatload of helping calls all season. Every game after 9/11 that season was the highlighted game of the season and the announcers even said at various points during broadcasts about the "feeling of the country" and how the Patriots had become "America's team" after 9/11.

It was surreal.

So, yeah, I'm outright saying it was fixed then and it's BEEN fixed since.

Why watch? Well, two reasons. 1) The "narratives" tend to not be set until at least midway throughout the season so the first half of the season tends to be pretty pure and 2) I watch the NFL like people watch WWE. Even if I know the outcome, I can still be entertained by the action.

And to be more clear, no one else's incredulity based on their opinion changes what I've seen and the collective evidence that's been out there since prior to SB 36...

Well baseball is harder to fix since Fox News pioneered showing the strike zone with an on screen graphic AND MLB started opening up massive amounts of data to fans.

Also, maybe the cheating by Houston had something to do with the Yankees not making it...

Yeah no SB has filled a narrative. Ever. Name them.

And as far as no SB being a blowout since then.......

Why did the Broncos get beaten by about 35 points?

Why did the Bucs blow out the Raiders the year after the Rams lost to NE?

Why did the Saints beat the Colts in a lopsided game?

Bless your heart, but dang...

I really don't want to have to go back through each one in order to hear a bunch of "yeabits..."

Also, the Bucs blew out the Raiders because the Raiders didn't change ANY of their calls or plays so Chuckie had his D in the Raiders' huddle basically the whole game. Not even Pats levels of inequitable officiating could help the Raiders in that game. Also, pretty sure Bill Callahan was the HC then and was feuding with basically everyone and there were SERIOUS questions about whether he threw that game.

If this really becomes that big a deal, I'll do it, but is it really necessary? Google is your friend, ya know...

What was the cheating by Houston? Also I think you're spot on about the on screen strike zone graphic. The coaches challenge with real time league office review is another change that has gone a long way to dispel suggestions of fixing games. The game itself with replay review caters to a black and white interpretation in most cases and is limited to wherever the ball is in play which helps getting the call right too.

There was a bit of a scandal with all the fly-bys and other things the DoD was paying for. The NFL had to return a fair bit of money when people learned that the DoD was paying the NFL to do things that any other business would have to pay the DoD a huge sum for.

But yeah, the military really went all in with Active Duty color guards (which wasn't always the case as in the past, veterans and reserve/nat guard units would do it), fly-bys including coordination with the stadium so that the fly-by could coincide with the timing of the end of the National Anthem as well as the release of fireworks, etc and other stuff.

So it wasn't so much ad revenue as stuff they got for free as well as getting the DoD to pay for the privilege to do things that they ordinarily charged a lot of money to do.

I have no information regarding if the NFL events impacted readiness to any significant degree or if it just increased logistical overhead.

I dunno, but I think they got caught filming signals. I don't follow baseball like I used to.
