So if the Rams changed their name to
The Never Forget 9-11
Would we then go undefeated? I mean with your logic NO ONE would want to say “the Never Forget 9-11 lost” after 9-11
I can't be more clear. Disagree if you like.
I don't think there was a fix in before 9/11 because a) there were blowouts which actually led to commercial refunds as viewership dipped precipitously in the 4th quarter among casual fans or opposing fans not wanting to watch their team get blown out... AND... the Rams won a Super Bowl which would NEVER happen in the days of fixed Super Bowls. I think that'll change in the future with the new stadium, but it wasn't gonna happen post 9/11.
Post 9/11, every single Super Bowl has been contested. But, you say, what about a few years ago when Atlanta went up 28 points? I literally said "uh-oh" and just watched as the Patriots did what they do. I don't recall anyone turning off the TV and the game was among the highest rated of all time.
As for what our team is named, what? That's reductio ad absurdum. It's not an argument, it's just incredulity based on an opinion disguised as an argument.
I'll say that if the team were named the Boston Braves, they wouldn't have even made the playoffs because they wouldn't have had a boatload of helping calls all season. Every game after 9/11 that season was the highlighted game of the season and the announcers even said at various points during broadcasts about the "feeling of the country" and how the Patriots had become "America's team" after 9/11.
It was surreal.
So, yeah, I'm outright saying it was fixed then and it's BEEN fixed since.
Why watch? Well, two reasons. 1) The "narratives" tend to not be set until at least midway throughout the season so the first half of the season tends to be pretty pure and 2) I watch the NFL like people watch WWE. Even if I know the outcome, I can still be entertained by the action.
And to be more clear, no one else's incredulity based on their opinion changes what I've seen and the collective evidence that's been out there since prior to SB 36...
