I have to laugh though. We can’t replace Littleton, an UDF, because we don’t have a first round pick. We couldn’t replace Saffold, a second round pick, because we didn’t have a first round pick. We have three good WR starting the worst one might be the first round pick, behind a second and third round pick. Andrew Whitworth was a second round pick as well and has been one of the leagues best LT for years.

Yes first round picks are nice, but not having them isn’t the end of a teams future.

I agree with what you are saying but you have to agree with me that its a good thing we had a first rounder when we drafted Donald. you can point out players that were good late rnd picks but never have I said you couldn't. what i am saying is that in 3 or 4 years we might be better off with 2 first and a 4th plus cap savings than having ramsey . we have different opinions but won't know how it turns out for 3 or 4 years.

It is nice to have 1st round picks. It's also nice to have one of the best shutdown CB in the game. It's nice to have Cooks. It's nice to have Goff. No guarantee that our 1st round picks work out and become what we trade first round picks away. I agree yes it's nice to have 1st round picks. But this fatalistic mentality that we're screwed or stupid because we trade some away is just getting old. And I'm not singling you out or saying that's your attitude I've just seen it way to much from some Rams fans, opposing fans and media. There is no cookie cutter way to build a winner.

Re: Ramsey... Whether the trade was a good one for the Rams hinges on 2 things.

1. Do they sign him long term. If not, giving up 2 first round picks was too much for a couple year of corner rental. But I believe this will happen.

2. Does he maintain his high level of play. Ramsey's a weird guy I think, but the way he's wired he's very tied in to his play on the field. I don't see him as a guy who will get too comfortable, because that would affect his bragging rights. He's a competitor.

There's a solid chance, IMO, that the trade will go down as a good one for the Rams. He's young and talented and will be a defensive cornerstone in the secondary.

Ramsey will be extended, no doubt. That was baked into the cake prior to agreeing to the trade.

I truly believe that Ramsey could be one of the rare keys to an exceptional D if used properly. I’m hopeful that Staley will use him properly.

A D with the likes of AD and Ramsey each surrounded by the right types of players has the potential for greatness. I think that McVay realizes that and I also think that McVay believes that the younger Staley is more likely to see the possibilities of different players and schemes to assist in reaching that goal than Wade did.

The key phrase above is ‘surrounded by the right types of players properly schemed’. They don’t have to be 1st rounders, just must be the ‘right types’.

Forget about the bozos who drafted before Fisher. Their strike rate in the 1st round was atrocious. Let's look at the picks snead took with Fisher.

Brockers
Tavon
Ogletree
GRob
Donald
Gurley
Goff

Then snead with mcvay

Goff (from the year before)
Cooks
Traded out
Ramsey

Which strike rate is better?

Maybe look at the Ramsey trade this way. He was the #5 overall pick in 2016. Using the draft value chart, the fifth overall pick in this draft is worth 1,700 points. The 20th overall and fourth round pick we traded in this draft are worth 850 and 50 points respectively. Our first round pick next year might be worth 650 points (who knows) if we make the playoffs and win a game or two. Add them up and they are about equal in draft value points according to whoever invented the thing.

And no petty arguments about how I applied the points, it's a generalized comparison.

Seems to me Saffold went with the money. Nobody's to blame. Can you blame the guy? Time is running out!

We really don’t know for sure, because it seems that the Rams never even made an offer to Saffold, choosing to focus on Fowler instead.

I didn't vote because the answer (as far as I'm concerned) is both. We missed Saffold's experience and ability but as some pointed out, they had a plan to move on (from both Saffold and Whitworth) but it failed. I believe had Noteboom (and Allen) remained healthy, we don't miss Saffold and Whitworth is gone after last year. And our young O line is a strength. But that didn't happen.

How many years would it have taken to sign RS? He's 31, still has a lot of game left but he also has a lengthy injury history. Perhaps they figured with his age...and that history....and the fact they had young guys waiting in the wings...they didn't want to invest in a multiyear deal. Well he played all 19 games for the Titans so that was a losing bet. But let's see how he fares in the coming years of that deal.

And of course, we'll have to see how Noteboom, Allen, Edwards, Evans and Corbett fair over that same period. Could be they made a huge error. Could be they made the right decision. Time will tell.

Thank goodness for that. I like the little shrub they leave behind.
