it is true that first round picks may not work out but the odds of them working out are better then the later rnd picks. also the 5th year option for ist rounders is very important. a lot of picks take 2 or 3 years to get up to speed so if they do you need to get them signed to a long term deal because if they get to their contract year it gives them extra leverage. getting back to first rounders not working out it is true that many don't but it is not guaranteed that the player traded for won't have an injury or won't get a big pay day and never play as well or even have legal problems. admittedly there is less chance of a proven player not working out so it kind of depends on how much the trade cost. so lets look at what we paid for ramesy. if we had not traded peters and just let him go this off season we could have gotten a 3rd rnd comp pick so ramesy cost us 2 1st rnd 1 3rd and 1 4th rnd pick. we won't really know what his signing will cost us in players we can't keep for cap reasons but I would think it would be 2 players. to me we just gave to much for ramesy especially considering I think this was done because wade wanted a man to man player and now he is gone. I know that there are a lot of peaple here who think we made a great deal but I don't. I guess we won't know for several years then you all can come back and say I told you so. over and out
I'm more confident in the Ramsey trade, than the Peter's trade. (And I was good with the Peter's deal)
Ramsey isnt just a pro bowl CB, hes a rare talent and a game changer.

I voted yes, loosing that pancake machine was bad. Big Wit is getting to old to cover up young gun mistakes. IMO Wit would have benefited enormously from bringing back Saffold.

The simple fact that we were all making sacrifices to the football gods and praying all preseason for the O-line tells me it was a mistake.

However, I really wonder how Noteboom would have progressed had he not gotten injured. How would the o-line gelled without the injuries. It might have been a mistake to let Saffold walk for the 2019 season, but what about the long term? There are just so many variables.

Ramsey is arguably the best cornerback in the league. You pay that price every day and especially Sunday.

Of course it was. I still think a lot of Fowler's production as due to the effect of #99. Missing Saffold made everyone else, worse on the Oline, and I said it before last season. I also think there was overconfidence by Snead/McVay with Kromer's ability to turn shyte into shinola. We had a lot of back ups starting for us last year, with little experience to help them after Saffold and Sully departed, and then it got even worse without Havenstein (experience wise).

Saffold has been a reliable guy since those two shoulder surgeries, where it was reported that there would not be a problem with them afterwards...which has born out. He was a big reason for the Titans' running success last year.

I think visual aids may help to illustrate what’s really going on.

Which draft do you like better?

Or

2006

I’ll add in one Devaney draft too with Saffold in the mix

2011

Just look at the picks in their entirety to see that the draft position means nothing when it comes to how a player performs in the NFL - not only that but I’d take Snead’s 2017 draft (minus a 1st) top to bottom over Devaney’s or Zygmunt’s picks.

Later round picks actually make or break a team. This doesn’t even include the UDFA’s, you’d have to add Johnny Mundt to that 2017 draft haul.

Just check out our depth chart — most of the players are late round picks. We were NFC CHAMPIONS IN 2018. Almost made the playoffs if GZ had hit that field goal against the hawks. This team is loaded despite the perceived offensive line woes. Call it Super Bowl hangover, mix in bad luck and injuries, and still we played to 9-7

Let’s not lose sight of the forest from the trees. Late round picks can be just as good as first rounders and Saffold is a Titan. As far as Fowler goes we still have moves to make there. We haven’t seen what Snead will do and whatever he does we are gonna get well by it.

Fair enough. I won't say I told you so. It makes no sense because we're Rams fans. We all want what's best for the team, even though a lot of us disagree on the specifics.

not sure what your point is here but the 2006 and 2011 drafts have 1 player that turned out good and he was a first rounder. the 2017 draft was with a different gm and coaching staff so no telling what a first rounder might have done. I don't think anyone here says you can't pick great players later in the draft just the odds get a little worse the further down the draft you go

Kupp as a 3rd is equal or better than Quinn as a 1st wouldn’t you say?

My point is if you look at all his drafts, Snead’s regime has essentially proven that their odds at picking up good or great contributing players with lower picks is much higher than what you are generalizing

* Snead drafted in 2017 btw

I have to laugh though. We can’t replace Littleton, an UDF, because we don’t have a first round pick. We couldn’t replace Saffold, a second round pick, because we didn’t have a first round pick. We have three good WR starting the worst one might be the first round pick, behind a second and third round pick. Andrew Whitworth was a second round pick as well and has been one of the leagues best LT for years.

Yes first round picks are nice, but not having them isn’t the end of a teams future.

The offensive line is the most important unit on a football team , by far. Yes, more important than the D line.
A great line makes average running backs, wide receivers, TEs and quarterbacks much better. And when you have a quarterback of the type that NEEDS time, protection it is that much more important. Give Goff a great O line and he is not getting boo,ed at Clippers games. Its all about the O line baby.
Fix it and your troubles are fixed.

all I said is the odds of getting a good to great player are worse the further you go down the draft order not that you can't hit on some. most of us think that when fisher was coach he kind of ran the draft and we had pretty bad drafts considering our draft capital. since we have mcsnead running the draft we have not had a first rnd pick and we have had good drafts. just wondering with mcsnead running the draft what we might have done with some first rounders. beside all the mock draft only go one round and so we are not even in them. a poor attempt at a joke. oh well its kind of an interesting subject.
