Snead will be very creative this offseason, I think...

Last year was very creative.
This year you will see other teams emulate that strategy.

I'm sure you're right dieter. But creative offseasons aren't solely the domain of Les Snead. It's something that hits a few teams every offseason and really worked out for us thankfully. So chances are, yes, that it will be other teams gettin all crazy and creative this offseason.

Rams happen to have a lot of needs align nicely with the strengths of this draft. NT, OLB, and OG being the noteworthy ones. So I think there's every reason to expect a very humdrum offseason in fact, with not very much trading and just good solid youth being brought in for those positions.

ILB and Safety we'll see. Have to think ILB they go with an influx of young options through UDFA and late rounder type additions, plus maybe a low end FA addition. Safety I think they'll target in FA but who knows.

I don't think we have to address every hole to have a great season, though. Rams might go TE at the top of the draft to try to upgrade an underperforming room instead. One thing this team has taught me is I don't know jack. My wife of course has been telling me that too oh well.

I want more production out of the edge but, 12 Million for Smith seems way out of the Rams price range. That seems high for his production as well. Rams need to find real good value with Goff's contract and the others that signed big deal.
And that’s a reasonable position. My point was that I think it’s a ridiculous proposition to spend money at the WR position when it’s the least of the Rams worries. I think spending money on a position of need is more important.

I do think Smith is a good player who will only improve. He’s kind of alternated between good seasons and meh seasons. I think he’s much better than Fowler and i imagine they would get similar AAVs. I see Smith at the 4 year 36-48 million range. I guess it just depends on what a team needs. With the talent on the defensive line and edge in this draft, I could see Smith getting closer to $10 million a year.

If thats what it would cost to obtain him, then I would much rather use that $10 million a year towards Preston Smith. I imagine Smith will get around $12 million a year. I think spending an extra $2 million on an edge rusher is far more important than adding another WR to a group that is strong 1-4 already. Personally, I couldn't be happier that Reynolds is the Rams #4. I think most teams would kill for that kind of depth.
Agreed!

32-33 million of cap space with the releases of Sullivan and Barron. He has some work to do.

I'm sure they'll move guys around a bit in camp this year because there will be a lot of youth and competition on the interior. But I expect Blythe to stay at RG, he's better there than he ever was at Center.

This draft will produce at least one interior OL to get into that mix too I think. It's very deep with lots of options and given our depth situation when you subtract Sully it looks like two interior OL would be even better, even if they bring in an affordable FA to settle things a bit.

Will see what happens with Saffold first ?

Littleton is not an edge rusher and Ebukam is just OK. Rams need help especially if Fowler goes. Even with Fowler I would like another edge rusher.

FORSURE !! My point is where are you going to get a DLINEman ??

Clay Matthews is the rumor ?? Ebukham will get bigger, stronger, faster !!!

Littleton made pro bowl as a special teams guy . He was the Player caller on defense also !! Just shows the year to year improvement.

Sure we can hope. I'm just operating under the assumption he's going to get a huge payday.

True. I think The Rams could get another 3 comp picks again next year. I do think Saffold & Brockers are core Ram players. I can see them both being Rams again.

OTC estimates Rams have over $36 million currently. Demoff/Snead still has two big options with Brockers $10.25 mil & Peters $9.1 mil. Both will be UFA's this time next year.

That's where I have been for a long while now too on Saffold...very big payday!. Rams are not in a bad way @ OG & Kromer has options @ OG.The 6 below options are already under contract.

#1-Austin Blythe- RG/LG/OC
#2-Brian Allen -LG/OC/RG
#3-Jamil Demby- LG/RG/RT
#4-Joe Noteboom- LG/LT/RG
#5-Darrell Williams- RG/RT
#6-Aaron Neary LG/RG/OC

It's going to take at least $12 mil of that $36 million of that guesstimated Cap to sign the four RFA's (Littleton/ Brown/ Hill/ Countess). Then there are four or five ERFA's to sign too.

While not the most important thing for a thumper, in this defense the middle linebackers do need to be at least okay there, even on first and second and obvious running downs.

I mentioned this to @Merlin the other day, those guys are hard to find. Bigger guys, big enough to hold up the middle in a 3-4 that can also pass defend are worth a lot of money. Hopefully they develop or draft one because otherwise it's "overpay in silly season".

How much do you think he will get?

12MIL a year? Maybe less due to his age and history. I don't think he is going to break the bank.

The key is how many years to offer.

5? 6?

He's 30 so I'm OK with 5 years. And I think a "fair value" you would be 55MIL. I'd be willing to pay a little more and tack on another year though since "fair value" during free agency is rare.

I'm thinking he's in that $13M+ range on the market. The list of guys better than him is very short, because he's a plus player in both the run and pass and he fits any run scheme because he's big & strong but also athletic. Teams will be all over him man, no way someone gets him for under that IMO.

Edit: Rams may be only team to get him for under that of course. But I am skeptical that they will be close enough to keep him. And that's ok by me, because Roger deserves his last big payday.

So we are close on this, 12 and 13 MIL.

I don't mind if he makes that much. It's not mu money of course haha.

Plus I want to see him retire a Ram. I would like to see continuity over the next handful of years. We haven't seen that on the OL.

I'd love to see them keep him too Les. Just keep a couple things in mind here...

1. We have a Goff payday looming.
2. This draft is loaded at interior OL.
3. Our ZBS has an advantage of using some smaller guys who have good mobility and technique.
4. Kromer is one of the best in the business.

All signs IMO point to a youth movement on the OL. And LT next year will be the final piece.

HUH?!? TJ Lang got 28.5 over 3 years, and he was considered better than Saffold in pretty much every way, shape and form (Yes, now in hindsight we can say it hasn't worked out well for Detroit as-yet, though he's been injured). Yet Saffold is going to somehow get 13 million a year and a 5 year deal? Come now...

you sure about Lang bein better than /Saffold? If you are correct, Saffold at 5 years and 13 mil is way out there and only a fool of a GM does this deal, lets see what happens..

I don't buy it.

Whether he is today or not, anybody's guess because of injury, but he was certainly a more sought after free agent than Saffold will be. 13 million a year on a 5 year deal would put Roger only below Zack Martin in terms of guard salaries. That's certifiably nuts.
