Snead will be very creative this offseason, I think...

I love Saffold but if someone is willing to pay $12+m/yr for multi-year contract the Rams should not try to match. I would be surprised if they are willing to pay more than $9m/yr on multi-year contract. Perhaps the Rams can be competitive with the guaranteed $$$$. That should be the biggest factor in likely the last contract for Saffold.

Yes, the Rams' offer needs to be competitive. Given the way he was treated by the Raiders the last time he was a free agent, I suspect he would take a fair but slightly lower contract to stay with the Rams - expecially with decent guaranteed money.

That Lang is better than Saffold. Pure fiction!:yess:

I would take Saff too. He's really developed into an elite guard and does everything well. Just a shame that we're probably not going to be able to get him done. Still got some hope though.

I thought Saffold said he would give a home town discount to stay with the Rams. After years of Jeff Fisher, winning does matter.

He walked that back later and said that he would still need to be paid fairly.

I don't think this matters anymore. He's been given the green light to test the market, so when he comes back with an offer, the Rams will probably make a counter-offer, and then it's up to Saffold to decide what's fair.

I suspect they've made him a conservative offer, though with a lot of guaranteed money, and asked him to come back to them before accepting anything else. It's in their interest that he signs back with the Rams, or gets a huge contract elsewhere (to hurt another team's cap space and get a good comp pick)

There are still a lot of cuts to come but rt now it's as if the Rams could fill every need and hopefully resign Saffold and Fowler assuming they do. I would not be opposed to a defense that added some vets that aren't to old by any means

Collins would be a great get and can play all backer postions just needs motivation at times but not old.o
Houston still not ancient by any means and if he isn't looking for a huge payday is perfect
Hankins well he is still reletavily young and could be had for minimal money
Weddle is the oldest of all but continues to play at a high level

These players could be had for 21-25 million combined Houston being the biggest salary.
This still does not include trading Brockers allows him to stay but if not we would still have that flexibility (of course this is all assuming these free agents want to play for the Rams).

If Fowler does exit I'd be happy with signing Barrett (also a good age and much cheaper)

And the biggest plus would be our draft can be again a base for the future and give us much needed depth keep us good for a while.

I personally would love this newly constructed/altered defense

Why wouldn't he be looking for a huge payday? Just like with Fowler or any of these guys, he's going to get the most he can get on the market.

General rule with these guys seems to be if they hit the market they're going to be signed away. Things happen, like with Saffold and the Raiders, but overall the FA market means the dude will be overpaid.

Which is fine by me btw. I will enjoy watching teams like the Whiners overpay and set themselves up for dead money down the road.

Well I agree most will look to recash in but I'm trying to go by the train of thought that someone like Houston will want to win much like suh and take less as the rams have become an attractive destination. So basically the premise I'm working off of is that some of these dudes got there money and now want something more. So we shall see.

Also I'd be ok if we kept Fowler and signed Barrett or if Fowler leaves and we add Houston and Barrett, basically any combination of decent edge rush at affordable pricing.
