I just have to push-back once more.

While I agree that Landman and Ford were a huge part of the Rams' improved run defense, the four primary pass rushers were also a big part of that improvement.

As to the pass rush, I don't see it as a wash.
47 vs. 38 is an improvement of almost 24%.

I also took the time to do some quick division ... sacks compared to pass attempts (including sacks) ... and ...
in 2024, the Rams sacked the QB 6.55% of attempts + sacks
in 2025, that improved to 7.4%

I did not look into Hurries or QB Hits

Nice. I stand corrected

I hate when people bring facts to an emotion party...because you're right but it doesn't feel like it.

For me it's expectations. I'm finding myself today being down on Verse and Fiske but that's because I expected huge leaps of improvement. There may have been some improvement but not much.

I'd give Shula anothe year assuming we can make the needed improvements on the back end. I mean, he can call any play he wants but if the guys can't cover or blow assignments like in the championship game, it's not his fault.

Maybe Cleveland becomes desperate and takes him off our hands. Not saying he is bad or the D is all his fault, but it would be great to get a mastermind on D to pair with McVay. Someone who can maximize a less than stellar roster.

I was surprised we made it as far as we did, I give Shula some credit, but as the season went we got worse and you usually get better as the season progresses. This group is still coachable, perhaps utilize them to their strengths instead of the overall scheme.

No argument from me brother. I'd prefer someone that likes to play more man, in your face then this soft zone. Cuz if we can get guys that cover well and tackle well, paired with our D line, we could be top 2 in the NFL, IMO

That's one thing I miss big about Staley as DC. More than any other year in the McVay era, that D seemed to get 3-n-outs a lot. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he had AD in the front end and Jalen Ramsey at his absolute peak on the back end.

But yeah, but that bend-don't-break shit. Make shit happen get your D off the field.
Yes Staley did a great job of baiting teams into a light box that wasn't really light on early downs. During the regular season. But in the playoffs his defense didn't do so well.

What's ironic about all this is that if you can get to third and longs and get pressure with 4 then you're going to do well. Unless your corners are really bad. So I don't think philosphy is the issue, even though I'm not a fan of bend-but-don't-break approaches. I really do think we're just a good corner group away from an elite defense. And if they can add a four down backer even better on top of that.

We don't have anyone who can handle Smith without a very quick rush on Darnold. Need a CB1. Plain and simple.

I'd like a safety that can ballhawk from the middle as well. Real pick threat that strikes fear in QBs.

Fans were right on that one. Been right about it for that matter.

In the second meeting in sheattle, the Rams shut out JSN in the first half, but they failed to cover him in the second half where he got over 100 yards and a TD. But they let him run free in the NFCCG in the first half. Not sure what happened.

So lame bro. Fans like you smh
Keep pretending like he's some great young coach.

Without his last name he wouldn't have a job in the NFL. All these people defending him with the "he doesn't have players" argument are apparently missing the fact that it's his scheme that stinks.

The injury to Witherspoon threw everything into a tailspin. Before the injury, Witherspoon was shutting down the top WR’s on each team. Look at the first game against Seattle and what he did to JSN. However, after the injury the defense no longer had one shutdown CB and when Witherspoon came back, he wasn’t the same.
Witherspoon has been hurt most of the season and ineffective when he was healthy. I’m guessing you mean Forbes because he did well against JSN in the first two meetings. His frame is definitely a problem because you have to tackle to play CB. He’s athletic but tiny. There’s a reason he was available. Rams shopping at dollar store for DB”s has got to stop if they want to win.

You are correct, wow, I thought Witherspoon played longer, but he got hurt against the Titans on September 14th. My apologies and thank you for the correction.

Apparently that nepo baby was thoroughly unimpressive in his interview with Pittsburgh. Colour me shocked.
Is McVay a "nepo baby", too? Remember, he got his start because of who his grandfather was.

Shula isn't perfect, but calling him a "nepo baby" is far beyond the pale, and an insult to a man who has literally worked his way up from the bottom and in every defensive coaching position to get to where he was.

The last 2 DC's became Head Coaches without a famous last name
