We have witnessed the passing of the torch on both of those starting roles, in the best way possible.
Pretty sure the Thread Question was about bringing Higbee and/or Havenstein back from Injured Reserve in the coming weeks (both are eligible), given how well McClendon and the TEs are currently playing.I just want to expand on why I'm a hard "no."
Those roster spots are important and critical for developing the next wave of talent.
Higbee will be 33 next year.. Havenstein will be 34.
It's just time, guys. Let new leaders emerge.. let younger players step up when they've earned it... and all of the players behind those two have earned it.
There's also the money aspect... way cheaper to pay two rookies than those veterans. You'll need every penny with guys like Puka set to get new contracts.
it's just time.
I agree.If they're ready physically I don't see how it's even a debate.
I wouldn't say the Rams have "3 really good TEs right now." I would say we have one very good TE, another a serviceable TE, and another still learning on the job.I just want to expand on why I'm a hard "no."

Higs has had multiple injuries and wasn't performing as well as Parkinson. The Rams have 3 really good TEs right now.. you draft another mid-round prospect in hopes of having one ready when you lose one of those three (or maybe even two of them).
Hav's best ball is way behind him... and I love the guy. McClendon has significantly outperformed him this year and is younger, cheaper and, likely, just entering his prime.
Rams should draft a tackle this year.. maybe as high as the second round.. to develop.

You can't afford to be sentimental in this league and the Rams know that. They were willing to eat money to move on from Kupp....
it's just time.
How do we even determine the “starter” when the Rams are likely to open up in 13 personnel? Most snaps? Targets? Not trying to be a dick, but…who cares? That's not an ironclad rule that you can't lose your job to injury. It's when justified when the replacement is doing much better than the previous starter was.
Parkinson was already surpassing Higbee as the starter when Higbee got injured. Parkinson started in weeks 7 and 10 in Higbee's place and he was outsnapping Higs after the bye. For sure they bring Higbee back but not necessarily to start.
The Rams ability to develop players is astounding. We have witnessed the passing of the torch on both of those starting roles, in the best way possible.
I think you're correct on both counts.McClendon has played his ass off ...I wanna say AT LEAST to Robs level....if not better.
Now Higbee....I won't have a fair answer, as I've always thought he was overpaid for what he produces and how hurt he always is. Annnnnd Colby is playing pretty awesome
The Rams ability to develop players is astounding.
Their ability to find gems in the late rounds, pretty unbelievable.
They even do an amazing job of rejuvenating other teams cuts.
For that reason I'm thinking a big game is possible out of McCreary.
I remember when we were thinking
Ahkello Witherspoon was a maybe or a waste of time and now we can't wait for him to get back.![]()

FROM AI Search: Under NFL rules, teams can designate up to eight players to return from injured reserve (IR) during the regular season, and postseason teams can have an additional two. A player on IR-to-return must miss a minimum of four games, and after being cleared to practice, the team has a 21-day window to activate them to the 53-man roster or place them on season-ending IRI have a question. Does anyone know if we have any IR returns left? I thought that you only get four.
The way I see it, Higbee was never overpaid...just under used. He's a great blocker, and McVay used him to block and shore up pass pro more than receiving. Now Higbee....I won't have a fair answer, as I've always thought he was overpaid for what he produces and how hurt it always is. Maybe what I saw was that they had four left.
