Do you know the difference between "#3 WR" and "#3 in receptions"? If you have 3 WRs the guy with the 3rd most receptions is the #3.....at least at that time. I said, it wasn't the "depth chart", it was production. What number receiver was Mike Williams when he was in the tub for 4 games?
But still, let's hear it. Who are better #3 WRs in the NFL than Van Jefferson? You already said Boyd. And I'm guessing you're not keen on Palmer. So who. Give me the laundry list of better #3's.
On one hand you say, "Jefferson was the #2 for a lot of games". If Williams isn't the #3, no matter how many games he spent in the tub, then how can Jefferson be the #2 no matter how many games Kupp or Robinson was in the tub? You're talking in circles. Jefferson is the Rams #3. So his numbers are good "for a #3" but not "a #2"? No shit!!

I guess it's hard to understand. In 2021 the last time Van played with a starting QB in an offense that wasn't decimated by injuries he put up good numbers. His numbers in fact would have been the #3 WR in the Chargers offense, I'm just using that team because it seems to have been picked. Now people around here myself included are pointing out that Van is a good #3 WR. He was behind Kupp and OBJ and he would have been behind Allen and Williams. You look at all the top passing offenses and he's right in line with those teams #3 WR's. Some he's got more catches yards or TD's some less of one or the others. Statistically speaking when he's #3 in the Rams offense he matches #3's in other good passing offenses. Until recently I didn't realize people didn't realize this.
I agree great value and in my first post yesterday I said I wouldn't trade him. His numbers 2 years ago were great for a #3 WR but I'm not sure a lot of guys around the league in our system wouldn't have put up those numbers. I just look at Van physically and many say he's a great route runner and just don't understand why he isn't more dominate. I think as others have said he just doesn't play with a lot of intensity, he doesn't have that dog in him. I appreciate you keeping your post civil and always enjoy reading your posts even if I don't agree with all of them.

So other #3 WR's around the league didn't. play on teams with injuries or back up QB's ? Injuries happen to other teams too I thought people realized this.

Yup, and that's why I think he's fine as the Rams #3, especially at his $$ amount. I think I catch your drift though, you'd like your #3 guy to be a guy ascending to a #2 or higher level, not a guy who's peaked at the 3 spot? Reasonable take IMO, and if I'm off the mark my bad.

Hate to answer a question with a question, but was being a #3 WR, the expected ceiling for Van Jefferson when he was drafted?
Technically when he was drafted he was the #4 behind Kupp, Woods and Reynolds with 2 TE over 40 receptions. I'd say the plan was to develop him but he wasn't as a rookie expected to do a ton. Could he grow into more? Maybe but with the roster he was drafted into I'd say he wasn't expected to be a #1 or #2.
If we trade Jefferson does anyone think we will get a day 2 pick? I don't. I think it would be a day 3 pick. And not early. I still say he's worth more to us than the pick they would get in return.

Good question, ... and no, I don't believe the plan was for Van Jeff's ceiling to be only as a #3. He was drafted in the 2'nd round at #57 overall. I suspect Robert Woods' salary was already looking to be getting excessive going forward and Reynolds only had 326 total yards in 2019, ... it was in 2020, after Van Jefferson was drafted that Reynolds had his best season during his 'contract' year.
Exactly. There are no Bill O'Briens out there that are going to give us a day 2 pick for Van. The only way we would have a chance at that would be during the season, approaching the trade deadline, for a team with some injuries that was desperate.
i guess the rams saw him as the robert woods replacement but he's never had a chance to make a push for the #2 spot. in the middle of his breakout year the rams signed obj so he was stuck at #3. then he injured his knee and couldn't even start the next season on the field. by the time he came back wolford and perkins were throwing the ball.

Id say it’s debatable whos 2/3 heading in to ‘23 between he and Robinson.
