Had Dewar’s 18 year last week. Very nice balance between malt and peat. Can see why people enjoy a good balance.

I enjoy bourbon, though I’m no connoisseur.
I have no problem using Jim Beam in my Old Fashioned.

I’ve never developed a taste for Scotch. The peat throws me off a bit.

Not all Scotch is peaty. The Dalmore is a great example that drinks closer to an American whisky.

@ScotsRam help me out here. Is it normally by the region where Scotch has certain flavor profiles?

Had a few from Dalmore and really enjoyed them. Also picked up a few bottles can't recall what exactly they were but one was a Glenn Fiddich that was very good.

Recently had my first Rye Bourbon that I really enjoyed a Whistlepig 12 year it was excellent. It seems once you get a rye in the 12 year area it removes some of the bite that I don't like in the ryes.

I saw some of his posts, mentioning non-peat Scotch.
It definitely peaked my interest.

There are exceptions, but generally speaking yes. Pick up a Speyside (e.g. Macallan), a Lowland (e.g. Glengoyne) or a Highland (e.g. Dalmore) and there will be no peat at all.

Dalmore is near where I grew up and was what first got me hooked on whisky. My taste has developed over time though and I wouldn't thank you for one now.

My son turned me on to this stuff recently. It's a new brand from the creator of Whistlepig (Raj Peter Bhakta, who is no longer affiliated with them). Good stuff at a reasonable price point of around $50.
