First and foremost...shout out to saffold, from all accounts he was a great locker room guy and was a very productive ram. Cant knock the guy for taking a pay day that likely far exceeds what we could have offered. wish him nothing but the best.

that being said, im not worried at all...we have sean mcvays system and les sneads drafting over the course of their tenure with the rams will we see many "big names" depart and we will replace them with relative unknowns who will play well just like the pats have been doing for years. our coach is that good. our system is that good. our gm is that good.

What other option do they have as of right now? Noteboom is the best OL available so they are penciling him in at LG for now.

So they have yet to show us where they feel he is a better fit unless you expected them to release Whitworth.

For purposes of this conversation what matters is what options they had as of before the FA period. IF they agreed with what you were saying, that's what they would have done. Saff would be a Ram even if it meant tagging him.

The fact they let him go tells us a lot. And it's not that they're barren on the OL. It's that they love what they have on the depth chart. And it's not a new indicator either. Look what they went with during the season and playoffs on the depth chart, we were down to basically Boom & Allen.

Allen got uttery manhandled in the preseason and real game snaps. spot backup maybe.Starter? Recipe for disaster.
I would say this here on Rams first year OL'er Brian Allen...

#1. Reserve interior OL BA practice with the first team offense often beginning with the end of preseason for 18 weeks during regular season.

#2. With the conclusion of the regular season. BA practice five additional weeks in postseason preparing to perform in 3 playoff gms against the best in the NFL.

#3. A total of 23 weeks for a rookie 3rd-day draft selection in his first season in the NFL. Getting large amounts of time with this offense, mostly @ center post but also @ LG post too for Saffold rest day in practice. I see 23 weeks as an official Ram OL'er involved in all practices being a very long time frame away from the early period of time when you said he was being manhandled.

#4. BA played all three interior posts in the preseason, not just one post. So he was under pressure very early.

#5. BA was healthy the entire 2018 seasons & was always available when needed. BA dressed for 16 games which began when OG Jamon Brown was released. Note: Jamon Brown started when he arrived in NYG. Brown just agreed to a new 3 yr contract to be the Falcons starting OG in 2019. Kromer preferred rookie reserve Brian Allen over 3 yr starting OG Jamon Brown who now will replace veteran OG Andy Levitre.

I would add this on BA...in college played in 51 gms with 38 starts (17 at center, 16 at left guard, five at right guard)...was voted a 2017 team captain. Four-year letter winner. Demonstrated to be extremely durable lineman finished his career starting in 28 consecutive games. Three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. BA was voted the team’s most inspirational player (Biggie Munn Award) on offense...received the Downtown Coaches Club Award, given to the team’s most outstanding offensive player and the Up Front Award (most outstanding lineman: offense)...named a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, widely known as the ‘Academic Heisman’...was the 2017. BA was the Michael R. Sadler Scholar-Athlete Award recipient (top Division I college football scholar-athlete in the state of Michigan). BA as a freshman in 2014, named a first-team Freshman All-American by the Football Writers Association of America and Scout.com. :rimshot:

What is there on BA not to love?

Noteboom looked awesome.

From what I saw, BA was consistently overpowered.

Having said that... in McSnead I trust.

Trust me Bro's. I'm hoping Allen turns the corner and becomes an All Pro for us.

I loved the pick coming out of college. But I review the Olineman carefully after every preseason and regular season game and Allen was getting demolished consistently.

Could he potentially turn it around in 1 year? Of course!

But I would by no means pencil him in as a starter.

We need a stop gap Free agent at guard or center ASAP.

After seeing how much he was hurt in his early years. I thought we were on borrowed time already. I wish him the best, but I don’t think he’ll see more than half of those 64 games.

There's plenty of time. Player's still going for the crazy money but as the money dries out their expectations will lower and the rams can pick one up at a reasonable price.

Just saw the news. Not going to sulk about it. Rodge had a good tenure here as a Ram, wish him the best. For the sake of his health though, hopefully he isn’t pulling all the weight on that Tenn OL. I remember he was always going down in the Fish era. Pulling all the weight put a strain on him. We need to start green anyways get our newbies up too speed. We still got Whit so yeah. Moving forward.

Agreed, but looking at who’s left it’s almost certain our Oline and offense will be taking a step back.

Good for Big Rodg. Hopefully for him he can pass his physical.

We can't sign every single player at the end his contract. We got way more production out of Big Rodg than I expected when he came back to us after failing his physical in Oakland. I feel like his best days are probably behind him now... and I always worried about him going down with an injury... seems like he's running on borrowed time.

I agree with that. I think they feel strongly in the guys they have. I was countering the idea that Noteboom is best suited inside. We dobt know that. He is forced there because Whitworth came back. No way would the Rams have released Whitworth. They were in a position of having to adapt to his plans and thst is what they are now doing.

Hate to see Saffold go, especially after he spent the last two years treating opposing defenders like Godzilla treated Tokyo. But I have faith in Kromer, and am glad they didn't overpay for a 31 year old - this is how you stay out of cap hell.

Also glad Saffold signed with an AFC team we won't see for two more seasons.

Dare I ask why? I'm sure there's a good reason, I just don't recall it.

His best friend and roommate, Brendan Gibbons, raped a girl. Lewan later threatened the girl that if she pressed charges, he'd rape her too (Gibbons and Lewan's own Michigan teammates reported them to the cops). I'm more forgiving of players for stupid mistakes than most, but there's a line. What Lewan did obliterates that line for me.

The best stop gap is Sullivan on a reduced deal.

That's right. Yeah, he's dead to me.
