I've been watching NFL Pregame programs today and nobody trusts Goff because of his 12 interceptions.

Meanwhile, Wilson has thrown 13 and NOBODY mentions it. It's like they never happened.

I'm curious if the narrative changes if Russ throws us 2 again and Goff plays a clean game.

Actually, I already know the answer. It wouldn't change a damn thing. The Rams defense would get the credit and Wilson's Teflon will remain intact.

Lets be honest here though he has almost twice as many TD. Yes he's thrown some shit but he's also done thing we wish Jared could. If Jared threw another 10 TD there'd be less discussion about it. I'm as big of a Goff homer as there is but he earns his criticism.

As much as it pains me; the Rams need to pad Goff’s TD stats.

We run a lot when close to the EZ... If Goff got a few more TD’s... the fantasy guys would talk more favourably of him, then the only-stats-watchers follow suit.

Suddenly, ”Goff ain’t so bad”.

Seriously.

My issue with this isn't that I'm defending Goff. It's that narratives persist in the face of facts. Warner suffers a broken thumb and was considered selfish and turnover prone as a result. Favre suffers the same injury, throws us 5 picks in a playoff game but elevates to warrior status.

Goff and Wilson both struggle like every QB if the protection fails, receivers drop passes, and the running game disappears. My issue is how Goff is blamed but Russell is excused.

The filter of perception is the problem. Aikman calls a game where Goff completes a pass to Woods but Robert has the ball stripped by the DB and Troy blasts Jared for not putting the ball further outside AS HE DOES TOO OFTEN. Drew Brees throws three picks in the first half yesterday (one dropped by the defender) and Troy looks for excuses. Yes, Brees is the better QB but the filter skews the context.

Jared Goff and the entire Rams team, defense included, sucked for three quarters last week. But Jared brought them back with a chance to win it and failed in his final drive. Guess what, so did the defense who allowed Gore to seal the game. Context.

Ben Rothlisberger has been pitiful lately. Should it cost him a gold jacket? Of course not. Jared Goff is the third winningest QB in the league over the last three years. Somehow, he's the QB that can't be trusted and we hear that ad nauseam.

I fear Jared Goff is today's Tony Romo. Romo earned 4 Pro Bowls and led the NFL in completion percentage in '14 but every Cowboys fan I know didn't like him as their QB. Every loss was his fault. I submit that in that time only a handful of QB's would have made that team better.

I agree with just about everything you said but again I go back to one fact. If Jared had the same amount of TD's as Wilson and 1 less INT's it's a whole different conversation. Jared's criticism is deserved and the people who get away with it are the ones that can still come up big and carry a team to victory in spite of having a bad day. Jared hasn't consistently done that yet.

if Goff wins some Superbowls or wills the team to 4th quarter, less than 5 minute comebacks to the point that teams are still worried with a late lead then the narrative changes.

If he throws fewer bad interceptions that cost the team each year then maybe they get overlooked.

We’ve seen Wilson will his teams to wins even when his team is not that good. We have not seen Goff do that when the Rams offense is not great or getting defeated by certain schemes. Goff excels in prime conditions like many QBs do. Lots of time to throw and weapons at every level. But with pressure his skills fade.

His lack of scrambling and extending plays will always give the perception that he is a notch below guys like Wilson. It’s perceived as a lack of instincts. I’d like to see him take off 3-4 a game instead of looking for something that is not there, or use his feet to get guys open when the play breaks down. Maybe that will come with time.

He definitely needs

The Rams have more yards than the Seahawks but score 5 fewer points per game. They run more in the red zone than the Seahawks which seems wise.

The Seahawks were a passing team early in the season but have become more balanced now. The Rams have outlier games but have been balanced all year. Sure, more Goff TD's would elevate his perception, but at what cost?

Here's my point. Most fans and press would be shocked to hear that the Rams offense has gained more yards than Seattle and that Wilson has thrown more interceptions. Why? Bias. Pure and simple.

You want a golf clap .gif? Show me that all you want and again you're arguing with a Goff homer to the end. But there's no denying that Wilson has and will perform more in the clutch as a QB and be able to carry his team and Jared hasn't done that more than a handful of times in his career. Wilson was an MVP front runner for the first half of the season sorry you think I'm disrespecting Jared but he's made his own bed with media and public perception with his performance. Second half of the season Wilson isn't much better but the had the 1st half where he was one of the best players in the game and Jared simply doesn't have that sorry you can't understand what I'm saying here.

Russell Wilson has been to the big dance, twice, and has won it once. He's always going to be a cut above guys like Goff because of that fact alone. This also means that he'll get passes where Goff wouldn't. Shitty to say it but we live in a Fantasy Football driven league and people would be more willing to accept the interception numbers of Goff if he had the same TD passes as Wilson.

I'm with OS on this one. Much as I love Jared the boy's gotta play better. Do that and this team will make a strong run and things will look different. There's still time on this schedule and season for him to put together a strong finish and make some statements in the playoffs.

Now granted our offense has some talent issues around him that make them a different group than say 2018. That does matter. But Goff's the QB and he's gotta do better.

That brutal loss to the Jets can basically be seen on one play, that being the 3rd down and 4 to go on the Jets 37 yard line with 4:29 remaining. That's a chain moving situation where the Rams are on the cusp of a game-winning drive. You gotta get the first down. What does Goff do? He missile locks on Akers with his first read and throws a low percentage pass that is incomplete. Meanwhile a second later he's got Woody come open across the middle for what would have been an easy first down. And that's game.

It's ok to understand that our young (he is still young) QB needs to improve. He does and if he doesn't start playing smarter this year's team is gonna be eliminated quickly even if they get in the playoffs.

Well said.

13 picks, 7 fumbles, 4 lost. Russell is already an established brand with the NFL, though so those don't really count.

12 picks, 7 fumbles, 4 lost. But it's Jared Goff, so that will be his legacy, Oh and that has to have his hand held by Sean McVay.

Just amazes me how the narrative of a QB changes depending on the player. Jared is frustrating b/c his turnover comes in bunches at weird times from making weird decisions. But it's football. Jared has done a lot more good than bad in the grand scheme of things.

As for stats, they are all relative to the team. Yeah he has 37 TDs to Jared's 20. But look at the team's rushing TDs and total TDs. They are polar opposites, but since they are passing everyone will get a boner over it. Last I checked, TDs all counted the same.

Let's say for a minute that "they" handed out MVP trophies to a player for every win a team has. So how many of those Rams wins(42) would "they" have given a trophy to Jared Goff from the '17 season to current?

Think of it as a coaches gameball, except it's given out by the media, fans etc.

I'd guess about 2 or 3, which is ridiculous of course. Gurley and Donald would certainly deserve the bulk of them, but i have NO DOUBT that the media would have a very difficult time giving Goff credit for wins, because they would only see what they want to see....the one INT or the 3 n out series, or the wide receiver YAC, or the overthrow, or the open guy he missed etc etc.

I agree with Leoram. The narrative is firmly entrenched and hasn't wavered and i don't think it ever will. The fact that he's not marketable despite playing in LA says more about his low key personality and how he's perceived by the media then it does when you look at his career numbers and productivity.

I'm not touching the Wilson comparisons. RW is elite and has been an MVP for years IMO, in the literal meaning of most valuable player. Seattle is probably a perennial 4, 5 or 6 win team with no Wilson.

.

It's hilarious.

I saw a qb ranking that had hurts higher than goff. Jalen Fucking Hurts.

Only superbowls will change the narrative for goff.

.

I would comment on this for the MSM not saying anything, but it would be political..

It's not really hilarious. Based on how Goff is playing now, I dunno if there's a worse starting QB in the NFL.

I agree that it will take sustained success to change the narrative on Goff, but right now Jalen Hurts is WAY outplaying Goff. It's not remotely close.

Put Goff behind the oline that the seahawks have trotted out the last couple seasons and see how well he does. The Rams oline has been bad to decent these last couple seasons, but recently the oline in Seattle has never been decent. You really cant compare the QBs unless you put them in similar situations. Imo if you put Wilson behind our oline, he would perform better than Goff.
