It’s players and scheme. Years ago defenses struggled with the zbs. It’s not as tough to beat anymore. So, if you run that system you need a few guys that excel at it. The Rams lost their best run blocker in Whitworth. It’s likely to be just as bad if not worse this year.

To sympathize with Snead, too many NFL teams are not developing Olineman to play in the NFL. Most college blocking is from spread offenses.

Nothing wrong with scheme. Need better execution, physicality on both line and backs
Having a healthy Cam will help. Cam brings that physicality that hopefully becomes
infectious.
9er's don't seem to struggle running the scheme.
Bet Miami's run game improves this year as well.

Sure sounds like Jourdan was hinting at a two back offense in the latest 11 personnel pod in how she was gingerly talking about what she was not seeing at practice (being held back for closed ones) and how aligned Akers and Henderson were in "shared" RB 1 roles. She mentioned that McVay was not happy with run game last year and wanted to "push" it this year.
I would not be shocked to see a two back offense take a few snaps a game from 11 personnel and I'd throw a little bit of money at the idea that we will see some wildcat (ala 2020 playoff game vs GB) here and there in the offense too now that Akers is back.

I'm guessing here but I think McVay in overhauling the RB position is looking for "wide-back" for the running game now. Akers, Henderson and Williams all offer plus talent as pass catchers. McVay is just going after the role in reverse of Shanahan, looking for his wide-back from the RB room and not from the WR room.
I would expect to see Akers and Henderson on the field together and look at how the 49ers used Deebo as a possible example of what we'll see. One of them starting wide of the formation, then aligning in the backfield but in various alignments (wing, offset gun, etc...).

I am hoping that means more Fullback type plays(like the 9er's use) with a TE
playing fullback ,lead block role. as well as some misdirection that can be dialed up with
2 backs in the backfield.( Akers , Henderson)
Just glad McVay is focused on improving run game.

It's why we cut Sony Michel. And it's a result of injuries to Hendo/Cam.
It's up to the RBs to do more than take free yards behind blocking. Yes, our OL can play better but it comes down to the RB personal to make yards that aren't given to them.
Todd Gurley in his prime didn't have this issue.

Posted this many times our team for the last 3 seasons has had Offensive OT's starting in 4 out of 5 OL posts. No bonified legit Guards.
In this year's draft Snead selected two more College starting OT's with Arcuri & Bruss, Jackson was always a college LT, Anchrum was always a college starting RT, and Edwards was a college starting RT........
I am expecting some small degree of sounder run blocking from a legit IOL'er Shelton who is predicted to start @ RG in place of the ex-College starting LT Corbett.

The run game is going to have to be schemed up more than ever to hide weaknesses.

I think you might get that but prob sparingly. I suspect these two back sets will be more about misdirection and much less about someone leading through the hole from 3 yards behind the LOS, though I think you'll continue to see WRs and TEs aligned in a wing formation blocking on the move.
