Its not like you are going to dress 10. And its also not like these guys won't be available for the PS or just street free agents if we end up needing them later in the season because of a rash of injuries.
I do not have a strong aguement on keeping 10 other than our history & yes you are correct that several of our OL'ers that we would keep would be no better than other WWC's walking around Unemployed. Fisher would prefer to dress only 7 OL'ers on game day for ST purposes.

10 isn't unreasonable - I don't mean to say that. But usually you would keep 10 (or even 11) in order to protect developing players from getting plucked away.

If I look at our 10th and 11th lineman - I'm not all that concerned this year. Rhaney, Williams, Murphy, maybe Kush depending on how you see the backup center battle - I think those guys are somewhat safe although they could get snagged up.

A guy like Isaiah Battle I think gets gobbled up off the waiver wire this year - although he survived the cut last year.

I would hope that we could release both Sims & Quick & go with younger upside players instead. I looking for improvement not to stay the same.
I won't argue with getting younger and more upside but you might not improve. Sims won't be cut at least not this year. Quick is a totally different story. Did you guy's notice he couldn't get separation from players who won't make the team! With his experience he should dominate those guys. He should put up crazy numbers. It's time to cut Quick.

I agree with you here. Sims will not be released that simple. I know this too Sims won't improve this defense nor will he improve as a player either.

Eugene Sims is a Sunday player. Is he going to break the sack record? No - probably not - but he has proven that he can play with the big boys.

I get that Fox and Seau flashed but consider the level of competition. Sims is going up against lineman who not only will make their respective teams, they will start. Fox and Seau have been going against guys who are likely to be on the street in a week.

Sims is a valuable part of the D Line rotation - he plays his assignments and he plays them pretty damn well. These other guys are maybes at best.

See my earlier post on Sims. Spruce is the flavor of camp - I get it - but Marquez gets the nod because of what he brings on special teams. If Ian Seau's name were Ian Rosenbloom - we wouldn't be talking about him at all. As for Battle - I don't know what he is or isn't right now - we just didn't get to see enough of him.

Sims plays the run pretty well - you rarely see him blow an assignment creating a huge hole and he gets decent pressure. It seemed like he was kind of snakebit over the last few years with personal foul penalties that weren't really personal fouls.

I'm not saying its time to fit him for a yellow jacket or anything - but he makes the team.

Honestly - if you put Seau or Fox in at DE in a real NFL game do you think they get any pressure on the QB? Do you think they would be a pretty big liability on run defense? I do - I think a starting tackle would make them look like rookies all the live long day.

The harder question is this - do the coaches see something in either of these guys (or even both) that makes them think they can be special with a few years of development. I don't mean serviceable - I mean special. If they do - then stick with them and see ya, Eugene. But if not - not much doubt in my mind that Sims is the much better player in 2016.

I totally understand your concerns but Sims is not a starter but a very capable backup that plays very well in limited snaps. Now if Quinn goes down I assume we use a combination of Longacre and Sims not great but not bad either. Imagine if you had to start Seau, that would be a total disaster.

Thomas is the guy that has me guessing.

Can they run with 3 true DTs (Brockers, Donald, Easley) and use Westbrooks and Hayes in there situationally? Seems pretty thin.

They could, but you need size against the run and if Brockers goes down, you do not have a true DT to stack the run at the point of attack.

With Coples released, I have to believe Cam Thomas is a done deal. He is the only other guy on the roster, outside of Brockers, with the size to stuff the middle. He is a natural rotational NT, and who else would we put next to Brockers for those 3'rd down and short yardage obvious rush situations on the goal line ? Donald/Easley is great at getting penetration, but against the bum rush, having two mountains in the middle should scare opponents towards the outside. While it may appear we are using two guys to replace 1 Fairley, combined they are cheaper by about $2.mil, and rather than a jack of all trades, they get specialists. I feel the same way about Sims, save a small fortune and sign much younger specialists in Fox and Seau. jmo.

I think the nervousness over the WRs is kind of justified...but most of the hand-wringing is over the backups. We'll run out Britt, Austin and Cooper...with Kendricks and Higbee out there a lot. I would have liked to see Thomas or Williams impress too, but I can live with what we have. Our offense doesn't/won't have your traditional make-up.

Our weak LB corps hasn't gotten much attention this summer. That bunch worries the hell out of me.

Our secondary is very enigmatic...could be good if Gaines steps up like we hope and the safeties don't get burned. Could also get scary back there...but for now I'll trust Fisher and Cecil...good track record there.

This season is gonna hinge on our QB/passing game. We don't have world beaters at WR/TE, but we have enough there, along with Gurley to put points up...if Groh, Boras and Keenum/Goff do a good job.

No way for Williams...he'll get someone killed...he's not even trying hard...missing blocks...I think he must have had a concussion, since it looks like he doesn't wanna put his helmet or pads near a rusher...

wr's anyone's guess after Britt, Austin, Cooper...I'd just keep 3....but Thomas has potential...

RB's...I think Case snuck on with that performance...ST's are in shambles tho...

Backup LB's...Grigsby...and anyone elses best guess...Hagar doesn't wanna hit either...Lynch...Forrest...I'd keep Littleton...but his effort wasn't there yesterday.

DL...Seau isn't ready...killed vs the run...Fox isn't either...Thomas...just to damn big...
CB....Hill & Sensabaugh...I'd cut Joyner...yep...
Safety easy...Cody & Bryant backup TJ & Mo....Tj goes to FS...eff what lies the coaches tell...Mo's a beast at SS...hell, he could probably play DE or OLB....
Mannion & Goff were terribly high..no, not smoking the stuff, just missing high...especially on 3rd downs..
