Very sad to hear this. I thought John Madden and Pat Summerall were the best football announcing team of all time. Unfortunately now they are both gone.

John Madden though was one of a kind. He will be missed greatly.

Pretty much my childhood everything broadcasting and commercials and til this day his video game. That games probably going to live forever. Who would have thought a video game would be a legacy for this awesome person. When players get upset over Madden ratings you know you are a legend.

I drove for Greyhound in the 90's, and just missed out on the Madden Rodeo.... There would be a skills competition among top Greyhound Drivers, the winner of which would be John Madden's driver of the Madden Cruiser for the year. Greyhound and Madden went separate ways before I could compete, dammit!

RIP to the GOAT. Madden you will be missed by all and I will try to convey that sense of excitement and football you brought to me as a youth, to my own son. Just hearing Madden on his telecasts meant football. Truly will miss the man.

RIP John.
Went to my Alma Mater.
Cal Poly SLO team died in a plane crash, which is why he didn’t fly.

Damn - loved the guy.

And I have used that …”just load the (fucking) wagon” a million times.

After all these fanatic years for me I never knew Madden and John Robinson were life long friends from childhood.

How did that ever escape me?

Can't watch enough Madden tonight on the NFL Network.

We lose these celebrities all the time now. This is one of the few I am truly grieving.

Madden + Summerall = the best broadcast team the NFL ever had IMO.

I miss both of their voices so much.

The day they retired, a bit of my football love died that day. And they have yet to find a pair that's in the same Galaxy. RIP.

I believe John Madden and John Robinson were assistants together at University of Oregon for a few years…most likely where their friendship started. I loved John Madden even though I hated the Raiders….John was bigger than life. The way he described players made you want to run through a wall. Easy to see why his players loved him. RIP John Madden, you left the world better because of your existence.

Grew up admiring the coach of some of the greatest Oakland Raiders teams ever.

As a broadcaster he and Summerall were the guys I wanted to listen to on Sundays hands down.

The video games from the beginning to what they are today were a huge part of football for me and my brothers over the years.

The NFL lost an ambassador to the game today. He will be missed by all.

Rams at Raiders in 1972. I was almost in tears as the Raiders were ahead 28 to 0 at the end of the 1st quarter. That was when I thoughht they have a heck of a coach and team. John will be missed. I think all of us would rather have a bite to eat with John Madden versus Warren Buffet.
