Man…John Clayton…I remember watching him as a kid…I guess this one hits a little harder because I had to put my Dad on hospice today and I remember summers at his place watching ESPN and waiting for Clayton and hoping he had any info on the Rams in the pre internet/sunday ticket days. Man I am happy they won the superbowl. RIP John Clayton and thanks for the memories.

Sad news.

Was always drawn to his reports …. he looked like he was in his sixties twenty years ago. Way too young.

RIP John. :crying:

How could anyone dislike Clayton?

He wasn't a "shock Jock". He just loved the football.

I do remember when espn was trying to push controversy and forced him to play against Salisbury. That was a joke, but mostly because Sean Salsbury was horrible.
Clayton wasn't good at playing against others, which was a blessing IMO. Controversy just wasn't in his wheel house.

So that was intentional? I just thought Salisbury was a total douche and didn't understand how he wasn't fired.

What I loved most about Clayton was, it was never about him, it was always about the story. The commercial about him was a classic, but John was old school, story first, who cares about me. The generation today it all about me and being an influencer combining who you can get to follow you, again, noting against that, just a different time.
