Here's the play in discussion, pin it to the top of possible.

If the Bengals would've won the game, it would be bc of this call. We would've had a #facemaskgate. I personally wasn't that upset with it in the moment bc of the Saints game lol. But for Bengals and media to be claiming refs favored Rams and ignoring this play... Like, how dumb of a person can you be to feel that way? Idiot savants?

I haven't watched the game but I thought Henderson was held/interfered with right before they called holding against Logan Wilson.
Yeah, he clearly was held on that play.

.

the whole kupp call thing is stupid. when did society turn into a bunch of halfwits?

henderson was mugged the very play before that. so the rams should have been 1st and goal at the 4 yard line instead of 3rd and goal at the 8.

Question: On the long touchdown pass to Tee Higgins, it looked like there could have been offensive pass interference. Just wondering what your crew saw and why that wasn’t called?

Torbert: “The crew did not see any contact that warranted pass interference. It was a contested catch, and the crew didn’t see any contact that rose to the level of pass interference.”

Question: So, both sides were going at it pretty good, so, no call?

Torbert: “Well, the crew didn’t see contact that rose to the level of offensive pass interference.”

Question: It looked on the replay as if Higgins had the facemask of Jalen Ramsey. Was an official not in a position to spot that?

Torbert: “Our rule is that if there is a grab and twist and turn, there’s enough for a foul. If there’s just a rake across the facemask, where there’s not a twist and turn even if there’s a grab, there is no foul. The officials did not see any contact that rose to the level of a foul for a 15-yard facemask.”

Question: So, they did not see a twist and turn?

Torbert: “Yes, that’s correct.”
Good Lord, just admit you fcked up.

Ref: "He didn't twist Ramsey's head..."

Everyone: "Yes, he did."

Ref: "I don't think so..."

Everyone: "Okaaaaay.... so... if you don't think it was a facemask...since when is a head twist necessary to call offensive pass interference?"

Ref: "Um..... not enough contact for that?"

Everyone: "Just quit while you're behind."

ya the call on kupp wasnt great... but that was a missed call - so id say even steven
That call is made routinely during regular season games. But given that the refs had swallowed their whistles for most of the game, it's understandable that Bengal fans are pissed it was called on the Kupp play. I think the reason they called it was because Hendo was held even more on the play just before that one and the Rams' sideline was screaming about it. That got the refs attention, and so he called the much more mild hold against Kupp on the next play.

You didn't need to see the hand on the face mask. You could see Ramsey's head getting jerked around all the way from the nose bleed seats.
It wasn't merely a facemask -- Ramsey was in perfect position to defend the pass and either make a pick or, at worst, knock it down. Higgins ripped him down to the ground to make the catch. It was Offensive PI and a personal foul on the same play.

If the Bengals fans truly wanted the refs to "swallow their whistles," then Hav would not have been called for holding on Kupp's first TD during that series.

At the end of the day, the refs' post hoc excuses are the weakest I've heard since "he's pining for the Fjords!"

Credit to PFF: they suggested that even though PI is not reviewable if a flag isn’t thrown, they guys watching in New York could have told the ref on his mic to throw the flag and sort it out later.

Said to myself “well, that’s Karma for the NFCCG against Asshole Face and the Saints”.

Between the loss of OBJ before the half and that play right after, I’ll admit feeling like it was out of our hands.

Playing with the fourth string TE that played one game this year and the 5th or 6th WR with the Roberto Duran hands...good Special Teamer, though, lol.

Fuck. What the hell happened to all the healthy players?

AND the missed PI when Jefferson's arm was held where he couldn't lift his hand to attempt to make a two hand grab! That was another reason for even Steven.

It interfered with Jalen's ability to play the ball. If you want to reinvent the face mask rule then apply the interference rule. Higgins contact with Ramsey directly interfered "restricted" Ramsey's right to play the ball

Well unnecessary roughness is unsportsmanlike.
But it wasn't after the play, it was the play. But no, they are not the same by definition.

Unnecessary roughness” is a penalty for excessive physical contact. “Unsportsmanlike conduct” is called for offensive actions not physical actions.

No, we don't have to get over it. We can ask for systemic change. There's no reason for fans on the couch to be in a better position to call fouls than the actual people who are supposed to call fouls. They can fix it. They should fix it.
There is someone holding on almost every play. The game would take forever.
