Lets not forget Saffold is fully capable of playing LT. He's had a lot of snaps there with good success. It would not surprise me some GM offers Saffold LT and the big contract that goes with it.
I think Saffold is the backup left tackle at the moment.

I think if Whitworth is injured they slide Saffold over and slide somebody in at left guard.

I'm pretty sure that's why they took Noteboom.

Left side back up at both positions.
Didn't I read that they were alternating Noteboom in at left guard in Camp?

Since the pads came on Sunday only Lucas and Havenstien have taken snaps with the first team at RT. I wasn't there Sunday, but yesterday Lucas only played RT and did very well. Demby and Noteboom both played on the left side, both taking snaps at LT and LG. Neary, Womac and Blythe took 1st team snaps at RG when Brown was out. Blythe and Allen took snaps with 1st team when Sully was out. I know nothing about Womac, but he's clearly getting looks. D Williams didn't dress. Injury?

Wednesday I'm going to focus on OL and DL.

Rodger Saffold has started EVERY game since his shoulder surgery.

In 2017 he was a second-team All-Pro.

He is our emergency backup left tackle.

He is a vet anchor.

He is ideal massive size at 6' 5/330.

The offensive line is the most important unit on the team.

Rodger Saffold is a stud at his position flat out.

Hey @bubbaramfan Womac is a DE (Brian Womac #62) might have been Jeremiah Kolone, who is listed as #61, but might have been donning #62.

I see many elements being involved in the situation in resigning Rodger Saffold.

#1-Andrew Whitworth our starting well aged well seasoned starting LT status after this upcoming season. We he retire, or will he be a victim of a serious injury or will he return for one more season.

#2-Top 2018 draft selection OL'er Joe Noteboom's improvement either @ OT or OG posts. Is Noteboom a strong future starting LT or LG?

#3- Will other new rookie OL'ers Brian Allen, Jamil Demby or Jeremiah Kolone display the ability & skills in their rookie season to be strong prospective candidates to start @ either OG posts going into their second seasons.

And of course the main element will be the amount of available cap funds that could be utilized to bring RS back in 2019.

Of the many elements going into this major decision the cap funds situation is one element that might be answered now. I consider it highly Unlikely that RS will be resigned. Do we need RS back in our starting lineup??? No question on that. Yes!

Some other smaller elements are if starting RG Jamon Brown can be re-signed & bring his 4 yrs of experience over to the left side if Whitworth does not return in 2019 to pair up with 2nd yr new starting LT Noteboom. I doubt that Kromer would consider pairing up two 2nd season OL'ers together on that blind side (left side of Goff). Thus the resigning of our most seasoned OG JB is a priority as is Rob Havenstein @ starting RT.

Mentioning Rob Havenstien brings up the lack of OT depth if we were to loose both our starting OT's in 2019. Now that might raise the priority of resigning RS back in order to plug him in @ one of the starting OT posts until the Rams can season up another not presently known now OT IF rookie Noteboom bombs out this season @ OT.

So many unknown variables on this subject that will unfold during this 2018 season.....stand bye it should be one very interesting season that we have in front of us.I'll conclude here saying that IMO nothing is more important than making it priority #1 to protect our franchised QB naturally that makes the OL top of my list as a Ram fan & #1 goal.
Thanks for really clearing up for me just what to expect.

Just looked at the roster they handed out, Seems there are two # 62's. Womac and Kolone. So it was Kolone in at RG. I really couldn't tell how well he did when he was in.

And obviously you didn't see how well Womac was playing either.

Could've been 62 blocking 62. :redcard:

I'm as confused as a blind lesbian in a fish market:thinking:

Jackie slater

Players are bigger now, which puts much more stress on their own joints, and allows the guys hitting them to put more force into it. Slater was listed at 277 when he played. Saffold is listed at 324. That's a huge difference, and is fairly typical. Doesn't mean that players can't last - it does make it less likely, imo.

If Saffold signs a multiyear contract with another team, do we receive draft compensation?

I think Saffold has been solid in recent years after the shoulder surgeries, I'd be happy to keep him at the right price, especially as Whitworth & Sullivan are also vets nearing the end of their playing career, do we really want a whole rookie left side? Having vets on the line definitely helped Goff last year.

Here's a guy who is 7 years older than Rodger Saffold and bigger as well;

Andrew Whitworth who played in the Pro Bowl last year.

Why WOULDN'T Saffold want to finish out his entire career as a Ram?

All he needs is a decent contract with enough guaranteed money and he could have three or four more years of superior play in him potentially.

I'd be fine with re-signing Saffold, but when you end up with 5 players being paid in the top 5 of their positions, you're going to have to NOT re-sign some guys. I think it will only be one of Saffold, Brown or Hav.
