Brewer's first year as an OG, he has always played OT. He opted out last year so he's behind. Evans, played OT in college and in 2019 he played RT. Now he like Brewer is asked to move to OG which is a completely different style of play. Kolone has always sucked and Meredith is a rookie. Both Jackson and Anchrum played well. So when Staley unleashed blitz after blitz the interior OL looked like it did in 2019. The lesson is that in 2020 those same 2019 guys played much better.
Brewer's technique at OG was poor. He played too high. Evans was slow as if he was thinking his way through each snap which he probably was. Kolone was as he has always been, a scrub. Both Jackson and Anchrum were a pleasant surprise. I would have been surprised if there hadn't been problems.
This isn't completely accurate. Brewer played all the OL positions other than Center during the 2019 Pre-season games. His performances at RG were where he showed best, although he played better than every other reserve OLinemen all-around during that pre-season series, and this was well noted at the time. While many were hoping Brewer would get a better opportunity at RG during the regular season, he ended up sticking to the roster as a back-up LT, and receiving regular season playing time at LT during the 2019 season. Brewer missed the 2020 season due to Covid, so it was always going to be curious how the Rams continued to groom him for 2021. That entire 2019 pre-season OL was also pretty ugly, can't say I remember how the RB's performed though. I am hoping that Brewer gets further pre-season opportunities at RG based only on his 2019 showing, we'll just have to wait and see if management mixes up the players & OL positions like they did in 2019 for their remaining two games.
