Yeah, I've posted a few times about Royce Freeman of the Broncos, good size/speed, can catch the football, is cheap and from California. IMO, that could be a match.
Completely under used by the Broncos. Good call.

I believe the NFL revised its pre-season cut-downs; and it's now as follows:

From 90 players to 85 players on Aug. 17

From 85 players to 80 players on Aug. 24

From 80 players to 53 on Aug. 31

Still most roster cuts coming at the end of the pre-season.
Wow, I didnt realize that.
Thanks for the correction!
Might see some players shake loose prior to the 31st after all

I've never liked that dude. And it has nothing to do with the kid beating thing. When he had that gear he had a nice combo going in his game. But now he's kind of a bad power back.

All this offense needs is a decent power option. A back who can mash a bit, doesn't even have to be a big guy. Smart type would be best too there. So I get why they like Funk so much but that knee issue ugh.

Either way though IF they love Funk can you play the guy through the rest of the preseason sched without thinking it's excessive risk? You could see McVay wanted him the F out of there after seeing a bit of him. So it does seem like a move might be coming sooner vice later. Because they need guys to eat carries now in preseason too.

So idk man. If they sign Peterson this week I'm fine with it. But I still feel like CJ Anderson is the guy to go get. It's just a shame he and the Rams have some hard feelings because I loved this offense with that MFer mashing. It changed shit for us in 2018.

Drama between CJ and da Rams? I don't remember that... what are u referring to?

Agreed, CJ was the man. Sure wish we could coax him out of retirement, but I gather he says he's content as a HS football coach.

Rams will never re-sign Gurley or CJ as both ships have sailed on. Sneed may have his eye on someone else if they get released.

Is CJ out there? What hard feelings, guess I missed that. He would have an edge that would move him ahead of most for me too.

Really? Played two games in September of 2019, and nothing since.

Anderson signed with Carolina in 2018, played a few games and then got released. Raiders picked him up a couple weeks later but released him within a week. The Rams then signed him, and he was a big factor getting them to the Super Bowl..

That's the type of RB I expect the Rams to add ... not C.J. Anderson ... a 2021 version of the 2018 C.J. Anderson.

Some veteran RB that's on a roster right now that most people don't think will be released but is not viewed as the starter, and the coaching staff wants younger reserves. I don't know who that guy is right now but that's the veteran RB I expect to be a Ram in the next 2-4 weeks.

Yeah CJ is out there but he tweeted that he wasn't interested a while back. Re: the hard feelings things didn't end well with him. The guy came in and woke up our run game, helped us get back on track, then the Rams prioritized Gurley in the big games.

I realize CJ isn't gonna happen. But that type of back is what we need IMO. A guy who can settle things down for us, who can mash a bit. A "pillow man" as Parcells used to call it.

But McVay doesn't really appreciate that type of back. His history and roster shows that. It's a shame too.

The opportunity for a vet incoming RB coming in here is huge. Only one guy immediately ahead of him on the depth chart(Henderson) and a full season(with no Akers) to contribute.

No thanks on the Adrian Peterson talk. We need a younger strong back who can still move and read blocks...not to mention fresher legs and will be motivated to compete for a starting job.

Looks like Broncos will need him. Mike Boone an off-season pick up just got hurt. I read another article when you mentioned Freeman that he hasn't been the same since an ankle injury a couple of years ago. The article did say he was having a good camp.

Sony Michel?
Yes. Maybe

That might work but Belichick might try to squeeze a decent pick out of the Rams. Michel might be an example of my thought that the Rams would be smart to continue to down-play the need for a vet RB.

Couple other examples ...

Philadelphia. Think Miles Sanders is their #1 RB, and they have Boston Scott; and they drafted a guy named Gainwell. If Jordan Howard is not one of the top-2 RBs, does he fit as a #3 RB who does not contribute on Special Teams?

Houston. Expect Phillip Lindsey to be one of their top-two RBs. They also have Mark Ingram and David Johnson (brought in by the since departed Bill O'Brien). One of those two vets could be the #2RB ... or 1A or 1B to Lindsey but does the other guy make sense as the #3 RB? Those guys are usually younger and play Special Teams. Of course, the Texans are pretty dumb.

One more. Oakland. The Raiders have Jacobs and they brought in Kenyan Drake. Does Jalen Richard still fit?

There's a number of possibilities; and, as closely as we follow the Rams, do we know who the 4th, 5th and 6th RBs are on any other team? That surprise late-round pick, or undrafted free agent that just looks too good to not make the final-53. THAT guy may take the job of a vet-RB. Think of how many quality backs are in the NFL that were late-round picks and UDFAs.

Finally... There is a handful of ROD posters that agree with my post (Rams are not secure at RB) after Akers went down.

Xavier Jones - NFL carries 0

Raymond Calais - NFL carries 0

Jake Funk - NFL carries 0

Otis Anderson - NFL carries 0

They need to sign a RB asap!

I understand (there will be plenty available RB's in the next two or three weeks as the preseason winds down) but why wait if you don't have to.

Don't wait until the last minute McVay. Sign someone now and observe available talent a week before the season begins as insurance.

If they like another RB after preseason cuts they can add that player as well.

Agreed. The best RB available is K Hunt. The Browns likely won’t deal him. He’s signed and a great insurance policy for them. He’s carrying a 6 mil a year through 2022, dead cap of 2.8 mil. It sucks because he’d tear it up in this offense with the WR group & Stafford.
I think the Browns are also counting on him to keep Chubb's workload down.

The only real bonified help coming to this team to assist our Ram RB stable is a fully highly well-running smooth offensive line. Hopefully, we will get that from the 6 OL'ers who were in street clothes last night.

Marshall Faulk & Eric Dickerson in their prime would have had a hard time getting yardage from the OL that McVay/ Carberry place on the field last night.
