Disappointing. Wagz was my favorite player on defense last year. Shows that the Rams had intended to go back to back SBs with another high contract to get there. Injuries really screwed up that hope. It's not over yet, but still hurts to see a likeable player leave. Felt the same about Von, but this was more of a Rams decision.

"We're headed for some 7-9 bullshit"
"We're not gonna be a contender"
"We just got worse today"

All guesses.

Facts?
We gave up 200 more rushing yards in 2022 than we did in 2021 at a pace of 4.3 per carry as opposed to 4.0 in 2021. With the same D coordinator.:wow2:Exactly how much better did Wagner make the Rams D. Pass coverage?

And IIRC, Seattle cut Wagner and went 9-8 making the postseason!! Seattle-cut-him-and-WON!! Tell me the Rams shouldn't do much better than that!!!

And that "mutual parting of ways becausenhe wants to win", IMO, is probably BS. That was a 'nice' move by the Rams to make it look better for Wagner.

The Rams got worse after today. I don’t see an upside to this move.
Mandated cap relief is the #1 priority for the Ram Org. at this time ...... it's the conclusion of the last 2 months of its 2023 total analysis of the present 2023 contracted Ram roster & now the final legal notice must be completed plus the announced (in the open press & world) ugly stuff must be put out.

This was one ugly but other ugly's are needed & forthcoming. Wagner cut/release ugly has a Dead Cap hit of $7.5 million & a Cap Savings of $ 5.25 million. Rams dead cap is now up to $12.5 million & will rise fast as the time will go by.

I am sure this will surprise many NFL fans but the NFL does not permit its 32 teams to utilize National Debt Relief companies to operate & resolve the teams' debt by using US taxpayers $$$.

I said before if they trade Ramsey it would confirm they plan to rebuild not reload. I'm thinking letting Wagner go might be an indication of that. We'll have to see where they go the next few weeks and months. Its possible we're going through another rebuild. But the good news is McVay stayed. Possibly knowing that there will be a rebuild. Which would indicate he plans to see it through.

Exactly. He is confusing playing in a wildcard game as being a "wildcard team". A wildcard team is a non division winner that makes the playoffs.

Man! There's a ton of negativity on this thread. Some from posters that are usually a little more positive.
The off-season doomsday crowd has started early this year after a 5 win season :laugh3:

Nevermind all of our best players didn’t play and the 3rd string OL’ers did play.

Some are posters that have quickly gone negative in the past. That's OK. It's how some fans look at things.

However, some of the negativity is from posters typically up-beat. I'm a little worried about these guys.

As long as we’re out of the Bermuda Triangle of a season that was 2022 and can remain healthy, I think we can go as far as we want to go.

I also think this offense is gonna look a tad different and more diverse which is a very good thing

Oh man ... the late, great Bill Paxton.

I just re-watched A Simple Plan with Paxton and Billy Bob Thornton.
Everyone has different opinions ... and that's OK. People like different things ... also OK.
But anyone that does not like that movie is fucked-up!

If he wants out there should be no dead money. And with that wants to win nonsense, probably conjecture by whoever wrote it, then yes don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

Jones has to take control of the middle of the field, not sure I saw that from him last year but maybe he was stunted.

Exactly. Since McVay arrived, you can pretty much pencil in a 10 win team and playoffs. Injuries wrecked it last year.

Folks are talking about rebuilds?
I’d expect that stuff from the media. The negativity is lazy and easy.

Good points.

So, to some, we release Wagner and its a rebuild?
Or, to others, when a true front line player gets released or traded (Ramsey) then for sure it's a rebuild?

We know McVay/Snead rebuilt McVay's first year here, bringing in Whitworth and Sullivan, Watkins and Robey-Coleman. 11-5 and playoffs first the first time in 12 years.
But by those parameters above (Wagner and probably others leaving), he rebuilt his second year. Bringing in Talib, Peters and Cooks, letting Watkins, TruJo, Quinn, Ogletree and Tavon Austin go. 13-3 and Superbowl appearance!!!!
........his third year, letting Saffold and Sullivan go, bringing in Matthews, Weddle and signing Fowler (acquired in mid 2018); Mid season, trading away Peters and Talib, trading for Corbett and Ramsey. 9-7
........his 4th letting Fowler, Littleton, Matthews, Gurley, Robey-Coleman and Zuerlein go, trading Cooks, bringing in Leonard Floyd and A'Shawn Robinson; 10-6, 1-1 in postseason
........his 5th letting Everett, Hill and Johnson go, trading Goff and Brockers and bringing Stafford and DJax in. 12-5 SB Champs!!!!
.....and his 6th losing Whitworth to retirement, letting Corbett, SJD, Von Miller, DWill, Hekker and Obo walk, trading away Woods, trading for Hill, signing Robinson and Bobby Wagner. 5-12.

Injuries hampered the rebuild in 2019 and devasted it in 2022. Now beginning his 7th season there are going to be some more changes.. Another rebuild!!! Like every other year since he's been here. Big name guys leaving, some coming in. Assistant coaches being poached and fired, new ones coming in. It's the NFL. If you ain't trying to rebuild to some degree every year, you aren't looking out for your best interests.

Sometimes you rebuild and still need some help, which they've not hesitated to acquire mid season. Fowler, Ramsey, Corbett, Miller, OBJ, etc.

I suppose I could be considered one of the "optimists". But I think, looking over the comings and goings the last 6 years, it's not like I don't have good reason to be one.

What does "Mutually agreed to part ways" mean?
The Rams said, "The Turk wants to see you in his office, and bring your play book"
And Wags said, "Ok"

Also, if he's designated as a Post June 1 cut, then why wouldnt his salary of 7.5 mill become guaranteed since that happens 3/19?
