A potential Seahawks reunion?
Wagner’s impending release is relevant to the Seahawks, who have a need at inside linebacker. Cody Barton replaced Wagner in Seattle’s starting lineup last season and produced mixed results. He’ll be a free agent on March 15.
Third-year linebacker Jordyn Brooks, Seattle’s other starter at the position, had surgery on Jan. 19 to repair a torn ACL. It’s unclear when he’ll be ready to play again. The ability to talk to Wagner now potentially gives the Seahawks a head start on addressing their need before the official start of free agency. — Dugar
Wagner’s reputation in Seattle
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll didn’t want to release Wagner last offseason and said during a news conference last March that he implored Seattle general manager John Schneider to exhaust all options before making the “heartbreaking” decision to release their defensive captain. He said they delayed the move as long as they could “because I love him so much.”
Wagner went on to have a productive season in Los Angeles and played well in both games against the Seahawks. Carroll saw firsthand what Wagner has left in the tank. It would make sense for Carroll to have interest in a possible reunion. — Dugar
