NFL Total Access with Brian Baldinger love move but he shows how not to be prepared for a show last night. Says how BW will help Reeder and we are ok at edge with OBO still there lol.
Snead now has 3 MLB'ers in Wagner/ Jones/ Rozeboom.

In addition, he has numerous WS-ILB'ers, Ernest Jones who played both posts in his rookie season will post up as a starter here but there is also Travin Howard (drafted in 2018 by Snead) / Antonio Brooks JR. / Taylor Rapp/ Jake Gervase & Anthony Hines signed to the practice squad back in November 2021.

The ILB'er cadre would now appear to have added some serious experience to what was a very young unit. I would not expect to see Troy Reeder back in Rams uni but might in upon a 43 D SSOLB'er reserve somewhere due to his experience starting in so many playoff games & is made of steel.

Does Rapp still have a position as a starter on this ‘22 D?

Think about it.

Hasn’t Scott beaten him out at Safety?

And now this new ILB corps kinda leaves Rapp as the odd man out, don’t you think?

Rams might be looking to trade Rapp for a player or pick, I think.

There is a salary cap in football that wasn’t the case when yanks were actually outspending other teams by large amounts. Rams are spending what any other team is allowed to spend I don’t really understand that comparison and I hear it a lot albeit almost exclusively from non rams fans.

But I’m glad our owner and team are both willing to hand out the cash/contracts/guarantees that keep us competitive!
It’s more about the owner than it is the luxury tax. Cheap owners don’t spend money, like Georgia.

I would trade this reserve strong Safety for a deep/free safety to back up Nick Scott.

What's the minimum percentage of the cap a team has to spend every year?

As a starter, I hope not. As a depth player, possibly. There is a little cap money if we move on from him like $2.5mil and seeing Ramsey's visible frustrations with him over the years tells me I'm not incorrect when I feel like he is often out of place on defense.

Bonifay’d, right on. Another excellent evaluation post.Funny how Ramon Ram made that statement about Baldinger not knowing the roster.

Excellent breakdown on your part. Just looked at The Rams depth chart.
TR is more of a FA than ever.

Speaking of Bobby Wagner & seeing your favorite Rams as a starter on the other side of the ball.

This Hines kid will be interesting. Christian Rozeboom fits a roster spot on ST’s. Justin Hollins should really have a breakout season.

A quick review of the salary cap you see Taylor Rapp is the 5th highest-paid defender :wow2::sur::angry4:@ $2.54 million whack.

If Taylor were to be replaced by a drafted free/deep safety in the draft or traded, Rams could end up with savings close to $2 million.

Thing is about Taylor Rapp is that he is more of a Mark Barron type LB/Safety.

He should never be played as a deep safety.

That is a huge weakness of his.

He should be a run stopping/cover TE type player.

He was played out of position frequently by Morris. One of my few complaints with Morris the second half of the year.

I brought that up yesterday soon as wagner signed. How I feelbwe are not done yet and Rapp has become fraud bait. He is not a horrible player just didnt play to his strengths.

He could be part of a trade just for a pick for another cgance at a draft lotto ticket or part of a deal where a team wants a young cheap safety and need to dump salary at a position we need.

How are the dolphins safeties looking? Howard?????

Vikings are might have use for Rapp but the restruc8of Hunters contract probably takes us out.

Bare in mind im not saying Rapp in any way is equal value for any of these players however if somebody wants to dump cap or get rid of a "bad attitude guy" we usually can step in and reform the player.

So my list of possibilities remains in most likely order:

Bradbury
Clowney
Howard
Gilmore
Hunter

And im sure there are some trade canidates we pull out of our ass since its what snead does.

I never understood why teams would be proud of being $50M+ under the cap while fielding substandard teams. The cap is there to be spent. It's purpose is to maintain competitiveness in the league.
That's why there's a salary cap floor. Teams cant be 50M under the cap, ceiling was 95% of total cap.

Ram fans like to and tend to bash Reeder for his deficiencies.
But, he was a key contributor on a Super Bowl winning team.
I high effort, high character guy who absolutely played to his max ability. It wasn't always enough just from an athletic position but he certainly balled out.
I respect the heck out of Reeder and the road he took and work he certainly put in to find himself starting on that defense.
That said, he is, in my opinion, a back up player.
Sort of an ideal back up player in that he is a smart and tough player who does well on special teams and is capable of stepping in and making some plays if called upon.
He was a key contributor, through need, on a very good championship defense.
Cheers to Reeder with the Rams.
Im sure he will go on and have a long career in that key. backup/st sort of role somewhere.

Calais Campbell is sort of interesting to me.
Certainly an older player at this point but still hard for OL to deal with especially if he is used in rotation so he gets limited reps.
Could probably land Campbell and Patrick Peterson for the money Gilmore would cost.
Adding a guy like Gilmore to play with Ramsey could have the same affect as adding another premier pass rusher.
Creating sacks or limiting throwing options based on great coverage is a real thing.
Screw it......lets just add Campbell and Gilmore.
haha.

It would seem the Chargers, due to familiarity, would be a possible spot for Rapp.
But, that D is looking pretty stout.

I believe Peterson is back with the Vikings.
Was never a huge fan of his.
But as.a 2 or 3 (I think Rachel is penned in as the 2 CB unless a Gilmore is signed) he would be excellent.
I only really pay attention to the Rams in FA so he may have resigned with the Vikings and I just missed it......as is the norm for me.
Thanks for the correction.

Another player that was played improperly by Morris from time to time.

He is a decent run stopping linebacker and extremely good at blitzing the QB.

I just felt too many times we had Reeder in on 3rd and long and trying to cover receivers going over the middle and getting dragged for extra yards for either a first down or 4th and short.

I felt if they had to play Reeder on 3rd and long, have him be the fifth rusher more often than he did.

As an example:

He blitzed once in the 49er playoff game and that was the play where Donald grabbed Crapola who then proceeded to throw an interception.

If he had blitzed maybe two other times on 3rd and long, I think we would have been able to stop some of the longer drives by the 49ers in that game.

I think we can expect the Rams to draft at least 1 CB, maybe 2. I strongly believe they get a OLB-Edge, RB, TE, T-G and S. But who knows with these guys? They have a strong plan that they tweak every year, throughout the year.

The only spot I might see Reeder here is as a primary ST player with a backup role @ the OLB'er post but never again inside. Reeder is made of pure steel never hurt!
